I have a question about trying to start Internet Marketing one of my passions, poker. My dilemma is in most states online poker is still illegal after the black Friday that shut down pokerstars and full tilt a few years ago. I know poker is very popular ever since about 2003. There isn't much on offer for poker though in clickbank, though there are a lot of books written about poker, but would this possibly be illegal as well as what other resources might have more products I can doing affiliate marketing with while I try to write my own product?

Can't you have a blog promoting affiliate poker sites, but specifying how those sites are unavailable to US customers? If you are writing an ebook, you might be able to use that technique too, just specify which countries allow online gambling.

I suppose I could, or I could just kind of ignore the online aspect and instead focus on just Poker itself and how to improve one's game overall though the actions and way you play live at a casino and how you play online are two different things

Be aware that lack of competition on Clickbank =/= lack of competition at all.

It's not just the lack of competition on clickbank it is the lack of many products as well, especially with as many books that have been written on poker since it's explosion in popularity after moneymaker won the wsop main event back in the early 2000's. This a sign that I should look in another direction or a way for me to open the niche with my own product?

  • Poker is not illegal in the free world, you statement is not true. It's only illegal in a few countries that don't believe in freedom of their citizens doing what they want in their privacy but that is just a few of them. Promote poker and make money (thousands are) where there still freedom to do that.

Thanks for the ideas I can start work on my own blog on improving poker play afterall even in the us you can play at casino's and there are a few sites now where you can play just not many right now. I was hoping to start getting some affiliate sales in the mean time but there are like 2 or 3 poker products on clickbank and none have very good gravity so guessing those wouldn't be good idea and maybe I should look for another niche in the mean time to try to make a small amount of income while I work on my main poker project?

Putting the word "poker" into ClickBank's Marketplace search function brings up 65 products, and there are also some others not listed in the Marketplace.

When you say "good gravity", do you by any chance mean "high gravity"? The high-gravity ones are the ones I'd want to avoid promoting, myself. These threads will explain to you some of the reasons why it might be better to promote low-gravity products ...

Ok thank you for that I will make it a point to read all of those threads today. However in Clickbank most of the results of looking for poker don't have anything to do with poker, they have more to do with general gambling. I do have another question, what is the minimum that I need to do affiliate marketing the right way. For instance I have heard of tracking software as well as other pay per click for traffic?

Ah, I see ... they're just things that happen to mention the word "poker" on their sales pages, are they? I didn't look at them and hadn't realised that; sorry.

I started my whole business for about $60. It wouldn't be easy with much less than that. Maybe still possible, but inconvenient.

I think Google Analytics is free? Don't quote me on that, I may be wrong; and I mostly use a different one, myself.

PPC is just one traffic-generation method. It can be quite good, provided you know what to do with the traffic when you buy it, and have a proven system ... but it has a long learning-curve and your first few hundred dollars don't usually go very far. Affiliate marketing has a big enough learning-curve in itself, without needing to master PPC at the same time, perhaps? Unless you have more funds available, and a lot of time, and are a fast learner? I certainly wouldn't have been able to cope with starting off that way, myself.

I met a guy in Amsterdam this summer who runs a huge gambling site. He was in Amsterdam to meet with 400 affiliates. His top Affiliate makes about $400K per month.

His business is based out of the UK with all the servers in Malta.

He said they are paying very close attention to online gambling in the U.S. He said it is inevitable that it will be legal, the U.S. is just trying to figure out how they are going to do it.

He said most of the attention of his company right now is on the situation in the U.S. so they are ready to go immediately when online gambling opens up in the U.S.

I asked the guy about his top affiliate and he said the guy had only been an affiliate for about 18 months. The guy had one main site that integrated many of the company's online gambling games into his site and sent all affiliate traffic to the main site.

The main affiliate site was supported by about 900 other satellite sites on different gambling/poker/gaming topics that powered SEO and traffic to the main site.

There is lots of money in affiliate commissions outside the U.S. and you would have an established business/list when gambling does become legal in the U.S.

Naturally, I cannot recall the name of the gambling site the guy I met owns because my brain cells were not really paying attention while I was in Amsterdam....

I will take a look at analytics. As for PPC no I don't have a detailed plan as of yet, and can only spend 100-200 dollars max that I can spare right now, I just got laid off last friday and trying to apply for unemployment and such right now. I am a fast learner though. Too bad online gambling is illegal in most states, eventually it will be legalized once they figure a way to tax it i'm sure. It is legal in New Jersey right now I believe, but I don't know how to make a site like the one onsubie described.

You'll need to be a little more than just a "fast learner", to show a profit on your first $100-$200 spent on PPC advertising. Be clear that paid PPC traffic is not a suitable initial traffic-generation plan for someone whose investment-capital for his business is $100 or so.

Yeah I know what your saying is true. I have been looking at videos online mostly by Vick I wish it was possible to make some money right now just to help with the financial situation while I look for a regular job but I imagine it's not right now and only hard work and time ?

So the best plan for success for me right now is just to work on a blog writing my posts about improving your poker game and skills and not worry about paid traffic for now?
