Cart Abandonment - Shopify

I just recently sent some traffic to an offer I had on a shopify store. This is my first shopify adventure so bare with me! I had a decent amount of traffic to the offer and a good %age added to cart but all adandoned before the checkout.

I don't think the issue is anything to do with the product etc. as if you add to cart you must at least have some sort of intention to buy.

Steps I've taken so far to try and trace the problem:

Contacted support to get them to check process, and also went through it myself with no problems noticed.

Spoke with a few people on shopify forums who really just said what I had already thought to check.

What I am trying to figure out is where this abandonment took place, is it when they added to cart, or when they filled out details and then cancelled, or timed out etc. As far as I can see there is no way to tell where abandonment took place, just that between adding to cart and purchasing something happened.

Would anyone with a good shopify background be able to help me please?
