E-book authors, how do you edit these things? Geez!

Hi everyone,

So I just finished my first ebook a few days and a few small spelling and grammatical changes have been found. That's all I need to do. But editing a PDF is like breaking into fort Knox! I had no idea. How do you ebook authors handle this without forking out $400 to Adobe?

Create the copy in Libre Office and edit it , then export it to a PDF.

Hire a writer/editor to do your editing. Send it to them in Microsoft Word after an agreement is made not to steal any of the content. Let them do the editing, and then turn it into a PDF.

There is a program that will turn a pdf document into a Word document. All you have to do is edit the text in Word, then save it as a pdf.

I think the program is simply called Easy Converter.

There is a small fee if you buy it but they have a free trial that you can use initially.

    Hello.
If you have MS Word 2013, you don't need an other program to save your doc as pdf or pdf as doc. You can open and edit pdf files in Word and save as pdf...
But you'll need to create a cover, you can get it on Fiverr.
    Good Luck with your product.

If you created the product, you should have the source document that you converted to PDF. Why can't you just edit the source document and convert the new one?

Sounds fishy to me. Sounds like you created the ebook in MS Word or similar and sent it to a different company for editing, etc. The company edited it and sent you a PDF of the edited document. Most of the companies will send you a PDF for your approval and once you approve they will send you a link for payment. You will then receive the source document, e.g. MS Word or similar.

Not saying that you are trying to convert the edited PDF document to MS Word and avoid payment, but it does happen and that is why companies send a PDF. At the very least a company explains the whole process that authors agree to before a company accepts the job, so if you missed it or did not receive the explanation then you should be concerned about your work being held for conflict of business terms and conditions.

You have to pay an editor. That's the only way. We had to hire a professional editor for our title. THEN you have to get it formatted for Amazon which is also a pain in the ass.

THEN you have to format it for Kindle, and don't forget the cover. So that's 3 formats.

This can be pricey depending on how many pages the book is.

Don't forget the cover, some people judge the book by its cover

I just finished a manual using Ultimate Ebook Creator. Where do you go to get these things proofread and edited for the type of book you are creating. I noticed that what looks goo in PDF does not look good in EPub. I also need someone to read this thing to tell me if there is content I should add or subtract. Where do you find a good editor?
