What do you consider to be the most effective mean(s) of monetizing someone's wealth of information?

Basically, I have a friend with over 40 years of self-defense training. He is also very sociable and articulate, both in speech and writing, but he knows close to nothing about computers besides surfing the internet. I have been thinking about telling him to move in with me so that we might be able to collaborate on something together, but I just don't know which direction would be wisest. Whether it be through a blog, videos, how-to's, ebooks, etc.. So, I'd just like to toss a few more ideas around to gauge which method would be the most effective before jumping in.

P.S. - This thought, can, and should be expanded to anyone with mastery of any given topic.

Make a blog with WordPress and a YouTube channel for all the videos. Put all of it up for free, build it to get organic search traffic, and then setup monetization methods to handle the incoming search traffic. Works great for me and a lot of other people on this forum!

Personal/private coaching is one of the best ways to cash in on any highly specialized skill whether martial arts or cooking. And, you can actually get local clients for that, not just internet related. You could also offer Skype type personal consultation to paying clients. And, there are even some sites that allow coaches to provide training to their clients over live video session.

Maybe create the site and add a good amount of self-defense content. Then monetize with affiliate ads related to the physical fitness, health, exercise, and self-defense niche?

So many choices here. I would certainly start with a blog and consider using it to promote any products you can create of your own.

Thank you for all the great suggestions so far, and from the looks of things I'm beginning to think that working with him on a blog might be the best idea, initially. Especially, till he begins to learn a few things about what it means to write for an internet audience. But, there were many other ideas too that I hadn't thought of, like reaching out to businesses for self-defense courses, the only thing is how would someone market that to such a crowd. I've heard of employees doing trust exercises or what not, but never defense classes. Anyway, thanks again for the great ideas.

If u have set a blog then thrive to make it an authority site not just any blog.
Anyway, what I will do with that wealth of information ur friend has is to monetize around a member ship site, personal / group coaching and consultancy. It is a niche that has a lot of potential to make lots of money.

There are plenty of ways to monetize your skills and make money online. The easiest way to get started is to create a WordPress blog and post content related to your niche. As your traffic increases, you can monetize your work and build your brand. You may offer online coaching, write and publish your own eBook, set up a membership section, or create digital products.

    Do you want traffic, (no)

    how about leads (no)

    what about money (yes!)

So why not start by creating a product and building a business... only then will you have something to do with those blog posts and videos... all of which are part of the system of internet marketing when getting started.

If he's got knowledge... put it in a video course and sell it. Build a list and create some more products to through in there and you're on your way to having something you can be proud of.

Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions thus far. I'd just also like to ask if any of you have tried reading some of the top selling books on blogging from amazon or other related material, and would you say they were worthwhile or even crucial?

Youtube videos should work, lots of people are looking for stuff like that, but it's better to see a short clip and learn a thing or two, than read about it and understand .. nothing.
Maybe an eBook with pictures to explain the techniques would work too.
