How do you promote a product?

to be honest i have just resently started doing this and i have done it for a couple of product.

some which have not came out yet but on google.

So I have not got any results yet, but It ranks good in google for newer products

But that is also why I want to see different methods to promote a product

Well, if its YOUR product.. you could

Put it in the Clickbank Marketplace and start attracting affiliates
Put in the Paydotcom Marketplace and start attracting affiliates
Use the Rapid Action Profits Program and create an "Instant Paypal Affiliate Program"

If it's a product you are an affiliate for...
Give a condensed version of it, (Free Report) to list owners in 'complementing' niches (for example, I have a book about making homemade wine, I give a copy of it to people who have sites, on how to make beer with optin boxes, for them to give their list) and I put links to my own site within that report.

Use Pay Per Click-

Make videos and distribute with TubeMogul

Use Press Releases

That's all I got right now.. but it should get you started.

Yes, I agree this is some good advice I ecspecially like the clickbank part and the paydotcom part.

It depends on the product. Not all products sell well using reviews. For most of mine I use PPC and article marketing.

I do key word search but the words I look for mybe a little different. I look for words with low search volume and low competition and I usely rank pretty high and googles with my articles. If you have problems writing articles use a article submitter it's a big help and time saver.

These were new ideas to me, so thanks for that first of all.. I'm a bit "green" still, but here's couple of things I've learned on the journey:

promote the product on a topic spesific blog/website and concentrate on getting exposure/traffic to that site
write articles and promote your site where you have the affiliate promotion
build email list via the blog
offer free stuff and value to get people to the list and to build trust (that you're not just "selling things"
promote affiliate products via that list
and my favorite: build authority, so people will ask you what to buy

..to summarize, getting people to an email list via opt-in is really strong, so somehow all the above folds around that..

to some degree, there's quite a bit of writing on this, so if writing isn't your thing, outsource the writing. get original content written by others that is and use those on a blog, articles or press releases (if applicable). or focus on video and audio. podcasting and such.

Find a core keyword to focus on that you have chance of ranking for and brings in reasonable amounts of traffic, set up a blog or a website, build back links. Attract direct traffic through video marketing and article marketing.

Job done. Rinse and repeat.
