ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO GET RID OF A PERSISTENT SPAMER?

Hello y'all,

I have a problem, some spamer keeps spaming me about some crappy website that i never even visited. The best part, he's doing it for his blog that I never visited.

So anyway, I keep getting his email with a "here is my affiliate link, go visit it" type of strategy, and obviously it doesn't work. But i keep getting email even after I have replied to him that I will take legal action against him unless he stops spaming me.

Now, since i never visited his site, blog or whatever, I know he "baught" my email from somewhere, or he illegaly obtained it in some way. In other words he sent me an email without my consent to do so.

So does anyone know what to do to get rid of this guy or how to find out where he baught my email from?

This guy is really getting on my nerves...

btw, the email i keep getting the spam from is: service@blog.rv.net

Thanks for your time...

Man with a user name like yours I would think that the answer would be easy.

On a serious note though, why not just mark his email as spam so that it can go into your spam folder and you would not have to worry about it?

doesn't work... i have it marked as junk email but it keeps getting "refreshed" or something... cause every time it comes back again it's not "junk" anymore...

on a more lighter note... A guy with a nickname like mine would have him laid to rest with the fishes... i just HATE spamers

Godfather, brace yourself. It's going to get a whole lot worse now that you've actually replied and confirmed that his spam is reaching an active address. Active address lists are where the real money is made in spamming - selling spam lists to other spammers.

The best way to combat this type of email is to look for a persistent, unique phrase. It might be in the subject or in the body. Use that phrase to filter anything containing it into you junk folder. You never have to deal with it again, at least until he starts using a different phrase...

If he is spamming the same website, then put the name or link to his website and/or blog and create a filter to send it to your trash.

You can also create a rule to block his domain unless he is sending from several domains which happens alot. Eventually you will block them all if you keep at it.

If you really wanted to waste time you could do a whois on the domains and hopefully find the host throught the name servers and report him to the host.

If he's always using that domain just set a filter to block the rv.net rather than the address and as Netpiddler you could complain to the admin contact for rv.net.

thanks for the replies... i managed to set up a filter today... I'll have to wait till tomorrow when he'll send me another idiotic email...

I'll do a whois search, get his phone number and start making calls over skype at some weird hours like 4 am or 6 am and just keep hanging up... soon he'll stop sending out emails about his new blog posts and stupid affiliate links...

Even better, hope for an answering machine or a personal pickup, then mumble something innocent but nonsensical in an ominous tone of voice - in Croatian. Slip in the the English words 'email' and 'blog' and 'rv.net' occasionally.

Wake him up a couple of times that way, and I'm guessing he'll be up long enough to put on clean shorts...

Unless the links actually point back to that site, you want to remove that address from your post. In many cases, the From address has nothing to do with the actual spammer.

heh, good one... or even better... start screaming like an AlQuaeda member and mention his name and his blog and email a few times and say that his infidel ass is about to be blown to pieces... ah how i love to mess with people... i'm contacting the dude (Paul) now but no answer... I'm seriously thinking of how pissed off I am a them.

The only thing i can say about all of this is: thank god that skype gave me 1 moth to call the entire world for free so i can call that MOFO and give him a piece of my mind...

Edit: P.S. Our language is so poetic that i can cuss for 15 minutes and make it look like one sentence in a nice and melodic way ah the beauty of living on the Balkan...

If your blog is hosted on a public domain (Wordpress, Blogger, etc) it's pretty hard to block spam. But if you have your own domain hosting your blog, you can set up spam filters that redirect suspected spam to a specified folder. Then start adding all the domains IP addresses of the originating spam to a blacklist.

By using this technique, I have been able to reduce the amount of spam by as much as 80%.

    Hope this helps.
