Advice for newbie on domain purchase

Hi guys,
First time poster so please be gentle!
I'm pretty new to the whole IM scene and gradually making my way through various training resource.
I was considering purchasing a PPC search engine and store offering that has been created to sell (i.e. a new site). It's in a niche i have an interest in so is relevant.
Obviously i would like to develop this site to earn me some money, why else are we all here after all, but i was also thinking it could help in my education (there is supposed to be support with the purchase), there's nothing quite like jumping in at the deep end!

I was hoping there might be some advice on just how much technical knowledge is required to develop these type of sites, is it possible for a novice to take one on and not just completely waste their time. Obviously i am not expecting over night results but some indication of whether this path is worth pursuing would be very much appreciated.
Cheers...

    Hi LiJaks,
Purchasing a PPC search engine and store? Sound like something expensive and difficult to administrate. Not sure can be a good deal for you. I would suggest to search for other opportunity and evaluate a little bit more.

Good to see that I'm not the only one who doesn't exactly understand the OP's business plan and would advise him against it even without knowing the details

Maybe i've made it sound a little more cryptic than i should have done?
There are plenty of people on sites like Flippa that have created a templates for a site and are selling them on, not expensive at all as they aren't established (much cheaper than a lot of available so called 'education').

Whilst im not expecting to purchase an off the shelf money generating super beast i was hoping to gather some experienced views on what it takes to develop a site that is ppc based, what goes into the marketing and whether it is something that can be picked up 'on the hoof' so to speak?
Am i being too unclear as to my request?

I agree with the 2 other posters. Would you buy a restaurant and try to run it if you had no prior experience.

You need to learn more about what you are getting into before you invest the amount of time and money that it will require to be successful.

Hence my query....im trying to find out from people with the experience what investment in time and money is required to develop this type of site???

And yes, i would buy a restaurant with no prior experience if a suitable handover could be agreed.... You can't do anything until you try...or at least that's my outlook!

What type of site? Is it WordPress, Joomla, custom scripts?
Some technology is easier to maintain and some technology has a steep learning curve.

When you say a "PPC site" do you mean the primary source of traffic is PPC?
This can be good because you can turn it on and off like a tap, but depending on the niche, PPC can be tricky and if you are not careful and good at split testing you can run through a lot of money in a hurry.

It is hard to give specific advice with so few details about the site you want to buy and the business model it uses to generate an income.

Maintaining a site can be quite simple until something goes wrong. That's where it is difficult to assess how hard it would be for you.

Be sure to ask the seller a lot of questions about how they maintain it, if they have any outsource resources who have worked on the site that you could access, etc.

Some website sellers will offer to help a new owner with problems for a period of time.

And without being rude: How was this relevant to the thread and not simply spamming your link?

I have been learning and trying to make money online for a few years now and the wheels are just now starting to turn. Some people can and will apply what they learn and get it into action right away but its not as easy as throwing up a site and making money.

Do lots more research. Get on a few internet marketing lists and "read" the golden nuggets of info between the "lines" of sales pitches. Maybe even buy a product or two. I recommend Anik Singal, Mark Ling, Chris Carpenter, to name a few...

If the site is being sold to you as a turnkey solution, there shouldn't be much tech knowhow involved in operating it as-is.

The problem you're going to face is the reason why the seller built it to sell and not to operate himself. Where is the initial traffic that feeds the PPC accounts going to come from? Your chances as a newbie of ever turning a profit with this site, regardless of how little you pay for it, are nearly 0%. Even a highly experienced webmaster would likely not turn a profit on it without investing huge money in an advertising campaign to draw viewers and in turn sell PPC ads. This is likely one of those sites that was built to sell and not much else.

One provides decent entry level material if you can read through the BS. The other two are fake gurus. I'll let you figure out who is who.

Yes start a smaller site, and do some testing with it. Go to clickbank and promote someone elses product. If you are able to generate traffic, and convert that traffic into sales, you will much easier know what direction you can go from there.

I assume from what you say, you are considering purchasing a website in a particular and then doing some site development?
If this is true, and you have no experience, I would seek out a web developer to do the work
