If you've looked into copywriting at all, I'm sure you've seen copywriting defined as "salesmanship in print". Now that's a valid definition, but I prefer my simpler one: writing to sell.
Anytime you write a piece where the entire purpose of the writing is to encourage someone to buy, whether they're to buy a product or buy onto your mailing list, or buy into whatever you want them to buy into (like pharmaceutical companies might want you to "buy into" flu season)...
