The 4 phases of an Internet marketer/online entrepreneur:

1. I Want SOME Money

Starting out, looking for 1st success, anything will do.

2. I Want A LOT OF Money

Tasted success, like it, sky's the limit, dreams soar.

3. I Want MORE Money

Getting there. Making a lot. Not satisfied. Want more.

4. I DON'T Want Money - I Want MEANING!

Got there. Realize money isn't all that matters. Want to
make a difference in a purposeful way.

Your thoughts?

I practice #4 but...

1, 2 and 3 suit me just fine too.

I think you need 1- 3 before you can achieve 4. Otherwise you don't have the time or resources to seek for meaning. Also will not be able to the power to achieve meaning without the 1-3. ....Atleast....that's how I feel.

Hi Dr. Mani,

Another excellent post. I like the way you laid out the natural progression of things, but here's my thought: What if one were to replace the word want with need in each of your examples above?

Obviously it changes the general meaning, but has a different impact on one's attitude.

However, whether the word used is want or need, I believe you have'nt achived any kind of freedom until you reach step 5...I have meaning.

If you really want to earn money then you must start it on your own little way. For example, make a blog and if it has many posts then you can sign up to a CPA network and sell other products to earn. Or you can make a E-book in your expertise then sell it.

I believe I'm between 2 and 3 right now... this is a pretty good progression in the stages although sometimes some people may even skip a stage.

I can see the progression and how it changes as a person business grows. Honestly, I am working on #1. At this time, my creditors will love #1 also. Number 4 is on the way, I can feel it!

Well I have the meaning. What I do makes a difference and I have met some wonderful inspiring people by taking a leap of faith and jumping in. I help people and make money doing it. These wonderful people that I have met inspire me to continue what I do and that gives me meaning. Had no clue that would be my main motivator, thought it would be the money, but its not. I do like the money too though.

These are all shades of the same idea:

"If I only had enough money, then ____________"

Trouble is, there's never "enough" money. Whatever you get, you'll find a way to spend it, and you'll need more.

What you have to do is construct the life you want with the amount of money you have. More money isn't going to help you construct that life; it's just going to change your definition of the life you want - because so long as you think your life is defined by things, you will always want more things.

Define your life by principles and actions. Then the money becomes irrelevant. It's still nice... but when you don't have any, and there may be times you don't, it's not the end of the world and it's not the end of your life.
