Default If you've read Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, then please...

... could you explain the story "A Pretty After-Dinner Speech For A Billion Dollar" to me.

That's the story of JP Morgan forming the United States Steel Corporation. I read it like 3 times but the English is too hard for me to digest.

Ok, I'm 16 and Indian so I don't understand English very well. (At least, this one.)

Some questions:

What did Morgan want?
Why didn't Carnegie like the IDEA?
hmm.. What's the IDEA in the first place?
What did Schwab do?
Who's side was Schwab on?
What did the others- Gary, Gates, Moore Brothers had to do with it?

Thoroughly Confused.

Thanks,
Sumit.

PS. Sorry id this is off-topic but these the most intellectual place I know.

Ha - I always skip that part every time I read the book

And I've read the book at least a dozen times.

I've read that book a couple of times, but not recently. I'd have to see the story to refresh my memory.

Hey Sumit_Menon,

Well if you remember from the story told by Napoleon Hill, he describes the dinner very vividly. He discusses Charles Schwab as the guest speaker for the Dinner, who at the time was not well known and received a sort of "you're not accepted here" type of gesture from the audience. As the story unfolds, Schwab delivers an Extremely Effective and Powerful speech. Surprisingly his speech attracted the mind and ideas of J.P. Morgan. Morgan knew that the only way to become Ridiculously Successful and wealthy was to form an alliance with Andrew Carnegie. So, in response to your list of questions this will serve as clarification:

1.) Morgan wanted to buy Carnegie's Steel Corporation
2.) Carnegie, at first, was against the idea and was not willing to sell because
he did not fancy the idea of selling his "gold mine" company to some unholy and ruthless men.
3.) Schwab was the brains of the operation and the MEANS to which the
DEAL would be completed. This IDEA/DEAL originated from the mind of
Schwab. He was the mastermind behind this.
4.) Gary, Gates and the Moore Brothers were simply men who had been trying
desperately to form their own successful Company or "Trust" with J.P. Morgan but were met with FAILURE in every business opportunity they attempted to present to J.P. Morgan. Morgan denied ALL their offers, but FINALLY after hearing the captivating speech of Charles Schwab he Knew he had struck Gold and found the "combination" or "alliance" that he was searching for.

I hope this clarifies your confusion and provides you with the information that
could help you learn from this brilliant man, Charles Schwab, and of the success of the United States Steel Corporation.

Yours in True Freedom,
Sonam Lama

I caught that too, I thought it was charles schwab.

Anyways, it goes along with the main theme of the book. Charles had a burning desire to get a specific result. His faith mixed with definiteness of purpose transmuted itself into it's material equivelent.

Be who you want to become, every second of every day. Make it true!
