Your biology is an enormous cluster of cells that have come together because survival is easier in groups.
You are not your Drunk Monkey ( mind, ego etc.), just like you are not your body. You are the one observing your body. Your mind, the Drunk Monkey, is just a part of your body. Are you beating your heart right now? Are you commanding yourself to breathe? Take a moment to close your eyes, take a deep breath, hold it and observe your heart beating. Do it now. Who is doing that? Not you! Your body operates independently of you. You are just along for the ride. Take another moment with your eyes closed and notice how your body is moving, twitching, repositioning itself and doing its thing totally independent of you. Close your eyes now and notice. Take action on your intentions today. Give up being right about you, your limitations, the situation, the timing and people. Engage the mystery of life. You have no idea what is going to happen next, just take the next action and enjoy the result, positive or negative…both are just opinions. Trust that you are on the right path, if you are reading this, then by the very nature of your intention, it is true, you are on the right path…whether you are producing results yet or not. Take action, in spite of the uncomfortable feelings you might have. Just make it an experiment, not important; just see if you can take the action without feeling anything. See if you can rearrange the thoughts you have to make the actions actually feel good. Don’t be The Drunk Monkey’s puppet. |

I can day that taking each day's surprises will make us a better person. It is fine to play safe but doing it every time is not helpful. We should take some risks at times because we will never know what good will it bring into our lives.

Do it now is the key. It took some work for me to develop the habit, but once I did, a whole bunch of new opportunities have opened up. If you're having problems getting going, I highly recommend Steve Pavlina's article on overcoming procrastination. Also, there's Zen Habits to read and Mark Forster's Autofocus system to try.

Playing it safe just seems so boring.
It has been shown time and time again that money does not buy happiness, but what you do with the time allotted you. Personally I get more enjoyment out of the challenges of IM than the income. Though that is nice too ![]() The old expression "if you are handed lemons make lemonade" has a lot of meaning to it in more ways than one. Life and it's many situations are all relative and what you make from these situations is totally up to you. |

Matthew, that was beautifully put. Sounds a lot like the teachings of Eckhart Tolle. Its a great reminder that our minds are not us and as long as we're living under the control of the mind/ego, we're largely unable to achieve, because it doesn't want us to.
I think deep down the consciousness inside of us wants to take action on our goals or on our inspiration, and knows that it's the right thing to do. But as soon as we start to move forward, the mind holds us back and gives us the uncomfortable feelings of uncertainty. It's only when we push beyond the limits of the mind that what's possible can become what's real. Thank you for the inspiration! |

Thank you for that motivation! Glad to have entered the IM world a year ago but without success. But my mind is targeted towards success. I know I can get there. Just do it!
