Hey all (especially the self improvement enthusiasts), I'm taking self development more seriously than ever now and since I'm passionate about Internet Marketing that I subscribe to Internet Marketing related mailing lists, why not do the same for Self Improvement? ![]() That said, who are the top 'go to' guys when it comes to Self Improvement, especially in the area of 'empowering lives' and creating success? (think of those who have motivated and helped people who seemed hopeless at first later become successful stars themselves) Would definitely like to see their site and if really good, also join their mailing list as well. Thanks! -- Edmund Loh P.S. Even if you consider yourself a Self Improvement expert, don't hesitate to post it here - would definitely like to check out your stuff as well. |

I'm gonna go old school here, since the guy is dead , and say Napoleon Hill. His book Think and Grow Rich changed the direction of my life and I never even finished reading it. He knew what he was talking about.

Above all I would recommend Maxwell Maltz. Of course he died in 1996, but his influence is profound. Any of his books can help you make a lot of money if that's what you want. For sales: Brian Tracy, Dan S. Kennedy, David Sandler, Tom Hopkins, Joe Girard, many more. Most of the really good sales ones write books and give seminars and the internet is only a small portion of their marketing. For health and spiritual growth you have your choice of many authors. It depends on what you are looking for. |

Wayne Dyer is pretty cool. In fact if you start with his early books and work your way up you'll see his own gradual spiritual transformation over time. Stuart Wilde used to be great but he's a bit too "far out" these days, what with his flitting about between worlds! |

Great wisdom in the Bible. You can apply the teachings like putting others first, respecting others, kindness, patience, fairness, etc. to all phases of your life, including business. I recommend the New King James version for accuracy and easier reading. Maxwell Maltz is good, as mentioned in an earlier post. also Canfield and Pavlina. |

Edmund Napoleon Hill is right up there -as he did it the other way around to most people...discovered what made successful people the way they were, then used it for himself. The fact that he also failed a great deal is interesting to me as it just proved he was just like us :-) I'm biased -but I much prefer "Law of Success" to "Think & Grow Rich" -just because it is a lot more comprehensive. I scanned over 1,100 pages by hand to convert it into the ebook you see everywhere online as I believed in it so much! lol If you get past the 'source' of where the information is coming from - the channelled Abraham Hicks stuff is great. Even if you think that Esther Hicks is a fruitcake and is making it all up - what she says is some of the most clearest commonsense stuff about sprirituality out there. (Website Abraham-Hicks ) Also - although it is every online so it is disregarded in terms of value by most people - Wallace D. Wattles "The Science of Getting Rich" is an excellent law of attraction based book from 1910. The interesting thing for me is that people forget to mention that it tackles the action vs only thinking 'argument' that raged after "The Secret" - and I love the angle he took with it. Just search google you'll find it. Of course, even though I've been doing this stuff myself for a number of years, I'm not vain enough to mention myself! lol To Our Success! Gary |

My advice would be to study the best in the field and the best, hands down, is of course Tony Robbins. I have trained with Richard Bandler in 2000, at his persuasion engineering seminar and left feeling like I did not learn anything. I will be going to the UK in 09 to train with John Grinder. I've seen Tony in Chicago and have been observing him for years. He really seems to walk his talk.

Yup - depends on what you are looking for and how you learn best. Some teachers can over power you and some are so subtle that you wonder! For sheer energy and a kick in the butt - Anthony Robbins For spiritual grounding - Wayne Dyer, Echart Tolle, Esther and Jerry Hicks (Abraham) The old masters like Napoleon Hill, Wallace Wattles etc but be patient as they are written with a different style of writing than we are currently used to. I have also taken an interest in Steve Palina and may get his new book based upon the strength of his blog. Pick a teacher or mentor whose style and message resonates with you and you will do better. Cheers |

There is only one (in my opinion) and sadly he is dead. I would love to have met him . The man who inspired Napoleon Hill to write "Think and Grow Rich" (I have seen a copy of the letter Hill wrote him). The man it is said, caused Bill Gates to drop out of college and start Microsoft. The man who's work I have been studying daily now for 2 years. The man who's teaching helped me make $100,000 (after taxes) last year. Charles F Haanel businessman and author of "Master Key System". The greatest work on "thinking for success" ever written (again just my opinion). If anyone would like a text copy of the work send me a p.m. Prosperity to us all! samsmiles |

I would also recommend looking for self help coaches / life coaches in your area that you can talk to personally. You can look in your yellow pages or search online for "life coach + your city" or "productivity coach + your city".

As far as self improvement, the above mentioned should be good, but have all of them actually walked the talk? Some self improvement "experts" out may actually be dangerous as they give bad advice. Be careful who you listen too. I would recommend finding a few experts in everything you want to learn because you won't learn everything from one person. Its always good to get other perspectives. One of the self improvement guys I listen to is Kevin Hogan. Not only is he an internationally known expert in persuasion, but he also did a national campaign to get kids off drugs (against there will). It has been recognized by people like Goerge Bush and Nancy Reagan. Hes also a master hypnotist thats been recognized by the national guild of hypnotist (something like that). And his newsletter is all about giving valuable information. Check him out.

I'm a huge fan of Jay Abraham. Use to be into Tony Robbins, some Napoleon Hill, etc. Jay focuses on marketing/business, and he's at a much higher level than 98% of his competitors. His old tapes (that are 20 years old) still sell for $200-300. Most authors, experts don't have that kind of staying power. Alot of them flame out, or they ride gimmicks, etc. The other authors mentioned here are good. Also with Jay... -He sells out $5,000, $15,000 seminars. With no high pressure sales tactics, no tricks. Nothing unethical. no bait and switch. -Besides the marketing and business skills you learn, he teaches you a mindset. The people that have gone through his courses know what I'm talking about. -I've never re-read other authors so many times. You can spend 6 months listening to one of his seminars, and you'd only know a fraction of what he teaches. -Nothing cheesy or fluffy. He doesn't waste a word. He doesn't cover everything in business/marketing/sales. But he gives you a huge education....something you wouldn't even get at the ivy league schools. |

I'm not so into this stuff, but Master Key seems like a real system, because it looks like it's actually a course. You learn the theory and you apply through exercise. Learn and apply is the best way to approach anything in my view.

I was most impressed by one of Og Mandino's rarest, or at least most obscured, books "The Greatest Saleman In The World - PART 2". He took the famous character from his most famous book and told the story of Hafid's final achievement. I think that this book was also Og's great final swan song, too. |

Something you must realise is that in order to be truly successful you must learn the spiritual aspects of life. I'm talking religion, just remember how to connect with the divine in the universe. When you do, everything will flow much easier for you

There are 3 ways to effect your reality: Basic- Self: This is your environment/ behavior/ and capabilities. Conscious- Self: Your beliefs, values, self- image. Spiritual- Self: Spiritual beliefs/ purpose in life. The highest order is the Spiritual- Self and effects your conscious and basic self. Effecting your basic-self won't necessarily change your conscious/spiritual self, but chancing your spiritual-self will effect conscious and basic self. This why your Conscious self and basic self MUST ALIGN with your spiritual-self, or you will not be truly successful. The truth is, you CAN NOT achieve ANYTHING- just because you put your mind to it. If it does not fit with your spiritual purpose in life, you can be sure you WILL NOT be truly successful. DO NOT BELIEVE all the HYPE. Once you find your spiritual purpose in life, everything will come together much easier and make more sense. Once your on track and aligned with your purpose in life magic will happen ![]() My advice is this- find out your purpose in life, what you came here to do, what your traits are, your talents, your passions, what you love to do- following this path will result in the quickest path to success, as success is defined differently for each person.

Edmund- I've been involved in pers dev. since high school (i'm 41) when I read Psychocybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. It started me on a path to at least 100 diff books, thousands upon thousands of dollars for courses, seminars etc and I picked up at least something from all of them. Went through diff stages depending upon age, business/ career I was in etc. I think the most important thing I can pass on is it's individual for each person. Some messages will ring more true for you than me and the next person. I know that's a bit ambiguous but I'd start doing search and see what appeals to you. The greats are Jim Rohn, Napoleon Hill, Nightingale/Conant is a staple resource, Jack Canfield, Tony Robbins. Steve Pavlina has probably the most visited pers. dev. blog on the internet today. There are so many more out there that are excellent as well. Last, to help you consume books more quickly (only one medium of choice) I'd strongly recommend you learn to Photoread. Google it. I wish I would have learned this 20yrs ago. My reading speed is above 12k wpm and growing. Totally new way of reading that gets past your limited conscious mind. Hope that helps. |

Here's why: Brian's published books, audios, videos and other resources number in the hundreds and they cover just about any self-improvement area of your life you want to improve. Self development to me means being aware that we are more than what is apparent. It is finding out who we really are and learning to live life from that expanded inner space. It is Being yourself. I have read a lot about it. Lately what has influenced me the most is this site: Morning Messages. Go there and watch the video on the front page. Then subscribe to their list. They have 88 short messages and they send one every 3 days. It takes around 5 minutes to read it. This has transformed my life and I am very grateful to them.
