What are two things that make you happy?

From time to time, we all get those down days where an unhappy environment makes it hard for us to be in a positive state, but I'm feeling good today! This is not much, but here are two things that make me happy.

1.
2. Having a conversation with someone that makes me smile.

Bright up this forum! What are two things that make you happy?

A brisk, fall day with light rain happening outside while I read a good book on the couch (with the "spiced cider" scent burning in the oil buner from Bath and Body ) Ahhh....Fall.

And my family and family time.

1 - water - it's my center and any time I get stressed, if I go around water it relaxes me.

2 - hiking in the woods - it just mellows me out and the exercise gets my blood pumping.

This may explain why I'm not happy where I currently am because I'm a 5 hour bus ride from water surrounded by wooded mountains that are full of rebels that make it too dangerous to go hiking...

You have a horse as a pet? That's so cool!

Wow guys, seeing the different things that people make happy is pretty different than what I expected (e.g. "growing a vegetable garden" and "time in the woods"). Some people were pretty descriptive too even with the little things. Thanks!

I've noticed a lot of you put golf. I've never gotten into it before because it seems like such a slow sport. What is it about golf that makes you happy?

I like your response. Happiness doesn't have to mean things that excite you. Just being peace at mind where nothing really bothers you in the moment can sum up to happiness.

Of course, kids and family completely negate that experience.

      (Just kidding. )

What really make me very happy is when i finish doing some research and polished it up for real world application and watch how people react to my use of it. Than it get even better when i get other people involved in the process of learning the why and how of what i am doing and watching them using it successfully as we refine the process which really get me excited. that is what being happy to me is all about.

    In no real order:

    good sex
    making and spending money

yeah it seems shallow but when you really think about it, it isn't.

    Let me break it down:

good sex for me only occurs with someone whom my heart is open too. so that would suggest that I have someone in my life that I love. I am saying good sex for me. I work hard to give good sex but it is not always the same for me.

earning and spending money means that I am being prosperous in life.

Nice backup... haha just kidding. There's nothing shallow here. Different things make different people happy.

You may find that you may change later on in your life, or you may find that sex and making and spending money will make you happy for the rest of your life.

      Thanks for sharing.

      Tristan,
Just 2? You make it a challenge, but I am up to it! Here goes!

      1) Sun, sand, and surf: lying in the sunkissed sand on a comfy, fluffy, beach towel, just feeling the sun lightly dance along my body warming me from the outside in, putting a smile on my face as I have my eyes closed, ears opened, listening to the surf rolling to the shore in a rhythm that I have down pat in my memory, listening to the birds as they make their way around, some flying over head, others running back and forth with the same rhythm of the waves...oh, sorry, was almost there! LOL

      2) My three grandchildren: Rochelle, my little princess!; Sophia, my little biker girl!; and little 3 month old Colton who adores his Nana, cooing at me, winking and smiling at me and noticing every time I have some new bling on, as his eyes immediately go there first! All of them helping me to remember viewing the world through a child's eyes, the wonder of it all, a sweet escape!

Yep, my two of many favorites!

Just kidding, heh. You're descriptive response was awesome and it made me happier just thinking about it.

I've been watching this thread for a few days. I just wanted to add something and I hope this helps and adds some food for thought. While I relate a lot to your post I wanted to offer this for consideration. Try to think of happiness as a choice and as something that can be excercised and developed like a muscle. I didn't always believe this but came to believe and find it true it as I worked at. Maybe you won't agree right a way, try not to discard it or toss it out but rather keep it in the back of your mind. Nothing makes us happy or unhappy that comes from just how choose to respond. In the end happiness is the ultimate prize.

I definitely agree with this - this is something I have come to realise in the last year or so of my life, after being pessimistic about everything. Finally I just chose to be happy, and it did actually work

Hahaha... That's it! That is the best. If I can say it in another language - being suffer-free

As from my perspective, if I am in "suffer-free", there is no one single thing that can make me unhappy. Whether being alone, being have little or no money, being away from someone, being close to someone I dislike, being injured, being in hot air, being not trusted. I can still be suffer-free from those. It is depend on how I respond.

Few things did make me happy:
      `successfully overcome difficult problem
`walking or cycling or motorcycling outdoor
      `meditating
      `seing baby - such pure
      `drizzling rain
      `being trusted
      `having productive day
      `benefit to others

These are "two" things that make me happy ^^

I know I'm going to regret posting this... apologies up front, but I'm in a really dark place right now.

I'd like to say my grandkids... and it is true that I do smile when I see them and watch them. But frankly, having little kids around triggers my anxiety disorder, as do crowds and other forms of chaos.

I'd like to say music, because I do like music, but very often, it only makes me cry. So I have stopped listening, pretty much.

I'd like to say meditation, being at the beach, peaceful serenity. But frankly, all that quiet time just leaves the monkey-mind chattering. I can't stop my brain.

      Love? No... Love is overrated.

I'd say being taken out of this reality and placed squarely into the un-reality of a funny movie... but that really is all about escapism, which is not a true happiness (for me, anyway).

Oh! I know what would REALLY make me happy: Being pain-free. Even if it's only for 5 minutes, that's 5 minutes of happiness, more than I have, these days. The only reason I'm not addicted to pain meds is because I refuse to take them (not that I could afford them, anyway).

Money? Well, that's only a means to an end. What would really make me happy is not having to worry about getting the bills paid and fixing things when they break (haven't had a heater since Spring and now Winter is approaching, with no visible means of replacing it anytime soon). And for once, I'd be ecstatic to actually be able to buy and give Christmas and birthday presents for those grandkids. And their parents.

My apologies for posting such a downer...

Nothing makes me happier than when I see what I've actually given something that has changed at least a perception of someone's life.) This is a great way to build meaningful friendships

    2) The thought of doing what I truly want to this moment is what's leading me to my main life goals I'm smiling right now just thinking about it lol

The two things that make me happy is being in the company of my family including our family dog and cat, and especially when our children visit with our grandchildren, and then see the smiles on their little faces of my granddaughters, when I give them the gemstone bracelets I created for them as a long time hobby, even one of my grandsons insisted on receiving a gemstone bracelet, so I created him a unisex gemstone bracelet, made with beautiful hematite beads - it is worth the expense of buying the gemstones and the sterling silver findings just to witness their excitement.
That is the two things in life that make me happy, and when I see their expressions on our grandchildrens faces when offering the gifts it makes us so happy and proud.
Although I must insist that our family dog is an excellent companion and I enjoy the regular strolls we have as a family unit - including the dog, and the dogs excitement when she see the lead being taken from the cupboard and again the excitement from all family members while we are strolling and all enjoying precious quality time - sorry three not two - I couldn't resist the temptation to include the third...

    1. Being able to do what I want...
    2. When I want to do it

And in case that sounds a little selfish, being able to do what I want could be taking my family on a fantastic vacation or helping someone succeed online just like so many people do here on the WF.

You gotta look after yourself first so you can look after others. That for me is the way to happiness.
