Default How Many Times Have YOU Done This To Yourself?

How many times have you gotten yourself into a rut, on your own, but then not made any real effort to get out of it? How many times have you given up on yourself, and other people came in trying to help you?

This reminds me of the story about the mice:

"Two mice fell into a bucket of milk... one tried to get out but could not, and he drowned. The other mouse tried so hard, that he churned the milk into butter and then walked out".

Of course, there was the mouse who drowned, and this video just reminds me of it. Those are kids there, to say the least. The one kid just can't bring himself to want to get out of the "skate bowl", even though you can clearly see other people doing it.

The first thing here, is that the kid builds up momentum, but then loses it. He can clearly get up if he wants, but gets tired near the top. But yet he still lets all the other kids literally try and force him out.

Had he believed in himself and just pushed that bit further, like the other kids, he could have been out of this skate bowl and probably would have never been on you tube.

So how many times have you done this to yourself: Given up, just before the finish line?

Hi acrasial,

I've noticed a few of your post. I think understand where you are coming from. I really don't see any humor in the video. What I see is someone who is not aware of their own potential.

How often has any one of us been there. Not realizing what we are truly capable of.

I was just talking with an IM friend about this a couple of hours ago.

Not one of us knows what we are truly capable of until we try with all we have, and never give up, but adjust and adapt to changing circumstances when we have to.

Thanks for the post.

Z

I think sometimes, the problem that you are facing is a lot harder than trying to get out of a skate bowl. I personally have been at the bottom of some very big "holes" and I know that no amount of positivity can get you out, it just takes time and figuring out how your mind works.

I have learned a lot since then and thankfully haven't sunk back down. I do appreciate your view, as I believe there are people out there who actively impliment mind states of "staying down", perhaps a little bit like the kid in the video.

Uber Noob, on a mission.....

YUP! I am the same way at times... But imagine if this kid had just not been so damn lazy, they wouldn't be on you tube being laughed at. They also had a huge crowd around them...that's just plain embarrassing.

At least most of us are given the fortune to not have such a huge crowd around us like that, where in we mostly just have our families or friends either supporting us or on our case...but really the support from all the world would mean nothing, if we never believed it.

Much like this kid, he just didn't believe in himself to get out of the damn bowl. How many people tried to help him, it was ridiculous... Simple message again: No one can believe in yourself for you.

Thank you for that wonderful thread. At first I thought it was hilarious, but then as I started to think deeper about the issues you uncovered, it really got me thinking about obstacles, challenges, etc

Thanks

Yes, key is in persistence.

How will you know your limits without an occasional failure?

HILARIOUS

I felt bad for the kid but this is so funny. I personally don't mind being in this situation, it's funny. I wouldn't want to be the mouse in your story though.
