Wow, that is EXCELLENT! Les Brown sure takes motivational/inspirational speaking to a whole new level. How can you not be fired up after watching and or listening to his material? |

How could we forget… “We gotta hold on, ready or not You live for the fight when it's all that you've got Whoa, we're half way there Whoa oh, livin' on a prayer! Take my hand and we'll make it I swear Whoa oh, livin' on a prayer!” YouTube - Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer And a couple movie clips for good measure: YouTube - Any Given Sunday - Peace by Inches - Pacino Al Pacino’s “inches speech” from Any Given Sunday YouTube - Facing the Giants – A motivational scene from Facing the Giants I’ll refrain from any comments other than to say the combination has re-energized me more than a few times. |

IMO energy comes your way not when you fight (that's loosing energy) but when you relax and change your own state of mind. My favorite one: Bobby McFerrin Don't Worry, Be Happy Here's a little song I wrote You might want to sing it note for note Don't worry, be happy. In every life we have some trouble But when you worry you make it double Don't worry, be happy. Don't worry, be happy now. *Don't worry, be happy. Don't worry, be happy. Don't worry, be happy. Don't worry, be happy. Ain't got no place to lay your head Somebody came and took your bed Don't worry, be happy. The landlord say your rent is late He may have to litigate Don't worry, be happy. *(Look at me -- I'm happy. Don't worry, be happy. Here I give you my phone number. When you worry, call me, I make you happy. Don't worry, be happy.) Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style Ain't got no gal to make you smile Don't worry, be happy. 'Cause when you worry your face will frown And that will bring everybody down Don't worry, be happy. *(Don't worry, don't worry, don't do it. Be happy. Put a smile on your face. Don't bring everybody down. Don't worry. It will soon pass, whatever it is. Don't worry, be happy. I'm not worried, I'm happy... ) |

I know it's corny but the song that most motivates me is 'My Way' - Sinatra's name appears with Paul Anka as co-writers and if anyone ever walked his talk, it was Sinatra. The verse I'd particularly single out is: Yes there were times, I sure you knew When I bit of more than I could chew But through it all, when there was doubt I ate it up and spat it out I faced it all And I stood tall And did it my way But most of the rest of it pretty powerful at keeping me keeping on when I've got any doubts in myself. Music definitely connects with me on a deeper level than any motivational speakers and it's much more fun to be able to sing a good tune to youself, even if you can only hear it in your head plus it feels 'right' unlike repeating goals and mantras incessantly. Some day I expect to be able to truly say: 'To think I did all that And may I say, not in a shy way Oh no, oh no not me I did it my way.' |

Since English is not my native language I used to approach songs in two different ways - I loved amateur songs (there was such a movement in Russia in 60 - 90s last century) for their lyrics, as the melody was usually quite simple; and I used to listen to songs in other languages first for their music, not trying to understand what they are about. I loved and still love Sinatra, Joe Dassin, Yves Montand, Julio Iglesias, but mostly for the way they sound, this music seemed to me as "mood" one - lyrical, calm, touching. Of course, after I studied English I began to listen to the lyrics (in English songs), but the approach remained the same - first what touches me is the melody. Seems I have to put more attention to the words... And, btw - here's Sinatra's "My Way" on YouTube: YouTube - My Way | |

I absolutely love this song. It's one of my all time favourites. I think it's about the end of a relationship, however, it can be interpreted as "The death of something old" and "The emergence of something new." Kind of like a phoenix from the flames, if you like. That's the way I think about it, anyway. "Watch me rise up and leave, "All the ashes you made out of me "When you said that we were wrong, life goes on "Just look at how much I've agreed." Here's the song: Ashes Video | Embrace (UK) | MTV UK |

| Together we made it We made it even though we had our backs up against the wall See you survived the worst but my life is glorious Betta know that i leaped every hurdle and i'm so victorious Take a look, I'm a symbol of greatness now you can call me Morpheus As for securing the win, better believe I'm so notorious You know that I've been buying my bread even though we rapping now (yes) We use to live on the strip and even though we're a higher level tramping now Superceded everyone of my middle struggles and Failure never ever has been an option A paper long like we was on the trap and we bout ta take the hood shoppin' Get it! Together we made it (you see we did it did it) We made it even though we had our backs up against the wall (c'mon) Forever we waited (haha!) And they told us we were never going to get it but we took it on the road (to the riches) on the road (to the ghetto) on the roooooad (in the project to this bangin instrumental) on the road (ride with me) *yeah on the road (you come and get it) *yeah, yeah* on the roooooooad *yeah, yeah, yeah, yo!* When it all got started we was steadily just getting rejected And it seemed like nothing we could do would ever get us respected At best we were stressed and the worst they probably said we're pathetic Had all the pieces to that puzzle just no way to connect it And I was fighting through every rhyme tightening up every line Never resting the question if I was out of my mind And it finally came time to do it or let it die So we put the chips on the table and told 'em to let it ride Sing it! Together we made it (you see we did itit did it) We made it even though we had our backs up against the wall (c'mon) Forever we waited (haha!) And they told us we were never going to get it but we took it on the road (to the riches) on the road (to the ghetto) on the roooooad (in the projects to this bangin instrumental) on the road (ride with me) on the road (you come and get it) on the roooooooad Look in case you misunderstand exactly what I'm building Things that I could leave for my children (children) children (children) Now I only wake up with a smile to see how far I've come Fighting for sales on a strip to get the hustle from From nights in jail on a bench using my muscles son To counting money like Dre and Jimmy or Russell Ross But now I live what I dream you see we finally did it Let's make a toast to the hustle regardless how you did it Sing it Together we made it (you see we did it did it) We made it even though we had our backs up against the wall (c'mon) Forever we waited (haha!) And they told us we were never going to get it but we took it on the road (to the riches) on the road (to the ghetto) on the roooooad (in the projects to this bangin instrumental) on the road (ride with me) on the road (you come and get it) on the roooooooad |
