Post Just wanted to say hi!

Hi, I am a newbie to this forum and I just wanted to touch base with you all and introduce myself. I am from an accounting background but now I work from home doing I.M but I do have a special interest in the power of self belief and positive thinking, so I will link minds and join hands with you all to our future success! Does anyone have any tips on staying focused on one thing at a time? I am finding that there are so many projects I would like to do but I keep wandering from one to the other and nothing is getting completed! The only thing I can think of is to draw up a plan daily and to stick to it, but thats perhaps more boring! Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi BusyWoman,

Welcome to the Warrior Forum! You're definitely in the right place for tips that will help you succeed.

As far as problems with staying focused - yes, I get that too. I've gotten a lot better at it, but it was troublesome at times. You know... reading a book half-through, starting one project then jumping to another; then remembering about the older project, stopping the current one, and going back to the first one... I think some call it "entrepreneurial A-D-D". LOL!

Well, it seems you're on the right track. Drawing up a plan is a good start and making a commitment to stick to it should set you on the path to "focus heaven". Sometimes things are just as simple as making a decision - and that's what you're doing.

Again, welcome. And good luck!

- JaggyJay

I agree with all that was written and wanted to comment a little on the how. Meaning how do we stay on task once we make a schedule and write out our plans. I really agree with those actions. The how comes in fending off or avoiding distractions when comes time to execute our schedule or a particular segment of it. These distractions or as I like to call them can be as simple as surfing the web to dusting a book case. Keep those activities in their time slot and don't become overwhelmed start small then gradually increase your activity keeping your life in balance or you'll eventually just throw in the towel.

It's hard to not get wrapped up in everything that you have going on but if you stick to the foundational things that need to be done in terms of management it makes the tasks easier. Criteria for what is most important against what is less importance and mapping out your priority list if you will can help to keep you on track. Timelines are also very helpful too so that you don't exhaust your energy and efforts on just one thing and not balance the time that you need to give to your projects to get them completed. Your trial and error will help you figure out what is best for you.

Hey BusyWoman,

Welcome to WarriorForums. I'm new here myself.

I think most of us have had issues with focus, if not now than at one time. Heck, I'm thinking of one of my nieces of 8 months who will get bored of something in a few seconds sometimes!

Writing up a plan and sticking to it would probably work - if you were bothered to stick to it. Personally, I'm not much of a 'check-list' person. I just don't like it. But still - I need to have some clarity of where I'm going. Since you say you're interested in that kind of stuff, I assume you can recognize the value of clarity to the mind. Be specific and tangible.

The issue for me was always this - I'm an info junkie. Doesn't matter what information it is - but let me learn new things! Based on your comments (and your about me interests : "Not to forget learning new stuff on IM") I think you and me might be in the same boat with that.

Thing is, the real learning (and realizing of what you actually have to learn) comes from the doing (or the trying to do). Skipping about prevents learning deeply. I've spent $1,000s on IM products (still not sure where that money even came from - I'm a university student with no job - but money makes its way to me regardless) and over a year of my time collecting information - and only recently have I actually started to get results. Not because it is hard or anything - just because I was a junkie (and I confess, still am)

What did it for me? Well - recently I realized I was going to (and much more recently just did) get to a point where I *had* to 'make money'. When you get to a point like that - you seriously stop screwing around. You go about things differently. You don't have the time to 'dabble here' and then go nibble at another bite.

Perhaps a solution for you would be to cut it at the source - stop the learning new IM stuff (you probably won't use most of it anyway!) - clean your e-mail of lists that sell you product after product. Get a well-defined goal to work towards. Find one complete system. Get clarity by writing a plan. Then - check whatever time you spend against that goal/plan. Is it moving you towards what you want, faster than anything else you could do? [props to Paul Myers 'Need to Know' - something to read...dammit lol, perhaps not right away though!] If it's not moving you towards it, stop. Return to start. Then roll the die again.

Short of that - get in a situation where you have the choice to do it or go hungry on the streets. That's only if you're really serious and still getting nowhere though. I'm sure you don't have to go that far.

Again, welcome.

Welcome Busywoman!

I read a terrific post the other week, which I cannot for the life of me find again now I need to refer you to it. It is on WF somewhere, as is the answer to most of your questions I dare say!

The point of the article was so simple and yet so many IM'ers fail at their business because they dont follow the plan. I have been there myself and know that many people struggle becuase they keep getting swept away by the next 'big thing', or they try to 'dabble' in too many areas. The bottom line is that you should find a method that you enjoy more than others, that you understand more than others or that makes you more money than others (delete dpending on your current circumstance) and STICK TO IT!

Making money online is not as difficult as so many make out, the hardest part is coming to the realization that you are going to have to work at it a bit. ONce you find something that works for you, just rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat!! It is boring and it is tedious but remian focussed on your goals...ask yourself why you are doing this in the first place and then knuckle down and get on with it.

I find writing lists in my notepad (proper paper one - I know I am old school) helps me a great deal. I also resist the temptation to waste time reading about matters that do not concern me or my business plan.

Stay on course, and good luck to you!!

Welcome to WF. I have the similar problem like you. I am happy that i came to the right place to know about how to improve my focus on one thing constantly. After reading all the above posts,i decided to do what i love to do where there will be more chance to succeed and write down my " To do list " daily then follow them by step by step.

Welcome to WF. Well, staying focus is the most difficult thing to do I guess. But, doing what you like to do over and over again will keep you focused. If you enjoy something very much, try to get better at it everyday and keep the learning spirit up. I guess, then you hardly need to focus because then you will get natural at it. Keep learning.
