Do you think that it can be hard to discipline yourself, especially if your a newbie, when there is so much information out there. I find even when i make a decision to keep on track there are so many distractions. |

I say it's all about gaining focus on that you really want and forgetting the other ads that scream in your email. but yes, we all go through that season and can still go through it, especially when there's an area where we need to grow. |

There's really no easy way to get around this, we have all experienced this at some point in time or another. I think real change happens when we finally realize how much time we've wasted going around in circles, after which we make a determined effort to turn things around. In many cases, we have to experience some sort of radical shift and jolt first, otherwise it's far too easy to drift on doing the same old thing we've always been doing. A big jolt could occur in the form of us losing our jobs and having our backs against the wall, that is usually an eye-opener which causes people to hunker down and focus instead of mindlessly spinning our wheels, going nowhere fast. I have used tools like Evernote, but many times I find myself going back to old-fashioned pen and paper, and somehow it works surprisingly well. I'm not the only one that thinks so, just look around the forums and self-improvement books/audios, there is something about transferring your thoughts onto paper that makes it much more powerful than just typing it out on a computer. Writing out short, medium and long-term goals on paper tends to keep us focused on what we actually should be doing to accomplish those goals. Try it out sometime, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! |

It's funny, isn't it, that the thread about information overload is where we discover the other thread about information overload! Yes, this is a real challenge in our modern life.

Good Point Pauli... There really a lot more time wasted than doing something. It's intuitive to keep researching and researching. But it's almost counter intuitive to start implementing. Many get a notion that we have to be an expert on a specific topic so that we can start giving back. One tool the has helped get ideas into the board and start implementing is a mind map software... it's a great invention for creative like entrepreneurs. Keep at safe house. |

It's all in the practice I guess. Decision-making takes a lot of practice.

| It's definitely harder nowadays to stay on track. I hear of other ways to make money online all the time, I want to give a try and put some time to it. Most the time it never works out and I go back to what I was doing. When it comes down to it sticking with your guns is the best.

Absolutely! Yes, its often turns many into self destruction and back to working for someone else. Many of my blog followers have lately requested that I do a video post on this very subject.... Focus, Focus... Whenever i now recieve a bus opp, I just delete it. My present rule is this... I work only ONE bus opp and only ONE marketing system.... Good Luck Friend |

It affects everyone at every level but those who have been at it longer have ways of dealing with it that works for them. You've got to be able to decide what achieving your goal is worth and I think it was Bryn Kumar that mentioned in a post a couple of years ago that a lot of people don't make money online because they're not totally reliant on that income for survival. That's true to this day. I've shared here in the forum that I've been in that situation before (years ago) and can confirm that when you've got mouths to feed, bills to pay and you know have the money-making skills but can't seem to get focused ... you amazingly learn what's important, what's not and what you NEED to do to start making money in the next 24 hours.

When I follow the thread suggested for more info on how to deal with info overload, guess what I found; more threads on info overload ![]() Do you realize information overload is the reason internet marketing is a viable business? It has come to a stage where the cataloging of information on the internet cannot depend on search engines alone. There is so much information out there that we need good IMers to shift through, organized and position specific information to targeted people. Making information actually useful to ordinary folks, and in the process of giving this value, we will be compensated for our efforts as well. That's the service we're giving to the world. That thought just motivated me to work harder and give more value. Cheers |

Right on the money there with that one. Here's an example of respected warrior Robert Plank and Lance Tamashiro's systems for helping internet marketers defeat the problem: IM Productivity Secrets: Time Management Tips, Tricks And Strategies To Eliminate Procrastination And Information Overload http://increaseyouronlinetraffic.com/im-pro-secrets <-aff link I'm a member there and they've got some great systems for increasing productivity, getting rid of overwhelm and overload and even how to get rid of perfectionism so you can produce more. I personally believe this is an excellent place for internet marketers to get help from two fellow internet marketers who have cracked the code on beating info overload and increasing your productivity.

I think everyone in the middle will be in this situation, loaded with lots of info and cant differentiate b/w useful and useless. It comes gradually through experience, discipline, and practice. Some Tips: 1. Check your emails only during few times of the day. 2. Reply to emails as soon as you read them. 3. Do not buy new stuff until you know about your old stuff to an extent 4. Always know, what you know and what you need to know. 5. Follow a mentor or guru in forums like this one. 6. Never wait for things to complete 100%, start well and keep things going. 7. Share what you know and help a newbie out there. Thank you. |

Yeah, you are correct. There will be so many distractions for a newbie. Normally, it would be very difficult to choose and focus on one way of IM. But ideally, choosing the comfortable one and investing time into it would give best results. |

One of the best advice I heard a long time ago is when I first started out on affiliate marketing is to take the first week to read as much as you can on affiliate marketing. The second week do not read anything and take action. Sign up for CPA Networks Talk to Affiliate Managers Choose an offer Do your research on the offer Choose a traffic source to test with( PPC, PPV, Facebook, etc) Create Campaign Test test test, Make mistakes and fail as fast as you can. The faster you fail the faster your success will come. Information overload is something we can control. I speak for myself because this used to be me. I felt reading that I was being productive and actually doing something. However in reality I was just afraid to do the work, spend the money to test and get the data to see what is working. If you need a pep talk or a little guidance. PM me and I'll be more than happy to talk to you. Cheers!!! |

Yes it is very easy to get distracted... There's soooo much to learn, from so many different people!! The best you can do, is just choose one internet marketer you trust and follow them step by step... Since I've done that, I'm seeing so much more progress in the right direction! I suffered from information overload aswell at the beginning.. Partly because the first internet marketer I chose, although very good, was not the right one for me... She basically gave us and taught us all the different avenues to make money online, all in one go... I didn't know where to start.... Now that I'm following a step by step plan, I'm doing much, much better! Hope it helped... |

i think there are so many different courses, schools of thoughts, books etc out there that it can be very confusing and hard to actually get started- total information overload- I highly recommend Mike Kemski's Banabu 11 principles course, its personal growth for the average joe, search for the banabu site

To know, and not yet to do, means you don't know it at all. When you take action from what you learn you learn so much more. Stop looking at the next big thing, stop looking for the next best traffic technique. Take action on something you know works, get a mentor, be persistent and have fun. |

You have to be really strict with yourself and say "today I'm going to do xyz" and don't move until you've done it.
