SEO is hard work, do you have the time?

I do SEO and that is a whole job on its own, I read everyone trying to get links etc etc etc, my question is do you have the time to do all of that? and the bigger question - who is running your business? Who is taking care of your clients? Who is making the better product or service?

More paper work than people work?

Here a good video where I got thinking, this guy had the largest Farmers Insurance office in the USA.

So remember give the job to someone so you can focus on whats most important in your business, can you afford to do what your doing all day.

Delegate what you can!

Well if you don't have time for SEO, don't even think about starting a site, since it'll be useless. Why make a site receiving 0 visits? Completely a waste of time.
Some people run a company and don't have time, well they can either hire a SEO Expert or just look forward to making money with clients

I'm sorry but your comment made me laugh and I mean no disrespect at all.
You do not need to know or even do SEO to have a successful site.
I'm surprised someone didn't call you on this before now.

Some people get brainwashed by the SEO crowd telling them that they need SEO.

If you learn how to drive traffic to your site then you're good to go. No SEO needed.
Do some JV's, get some affiliates promoting your site for you. No SEO needed.
Do a video marketing campaign. No SEO needed.

      Etc. etc. etc.

Although I get what you are saying excluding SEO from what you call learning to drive traffic to your site would make some of us amused as well. Theres really no good reason to skip SEO. If you are even successful in JVs, video marketing or affiliate set ups why wouldn't you do SEO? Doesn't make sense.

Need? Well no. I guess you can do with less traffic and money but why would you?

SEO isn't necessarily going to get a site more traffic and money. Come on now, you know as a SEO person that only the top 3 organic spots in the Google rankings get the vast majority of the clicks and the traffic. The other 99.9% of the listings don't get squat.

SEO is going to take a bit of time to learn, more time to implement and test and even more time once the on-page part is 100% done, to do the off-page part of SEO.

Like the OP wrote, SEO is "a whole job on it's own".

What's going to happen to your site when Google makes algorithm changes, or something else happens and IF you happen to be good enough to rank at the top of the rankings, you lose your ranking and all that time-consuming SEO work you did gets flushed down the toilet?

Why would you learn and do SEO if you were really good at driving traffic to your site?
          That's what doesn't make sense.

SEO is part of web design imo... a website is NOT complete unless it's been optimized for your keywords.

Off-site SEO is the next key element, and it's something you pretty much have to do forever.

Honestly, at this point, I think I enjoy SEO as much if not more than designing websites, so I make the time for it!

The most dangerous number in marketing is 1.

              1 system, 1 lead, 1 sales, 1 way.

I do seo along with marketing consulting, and copywriting.I don't even focus on onsite seo like years ago. Now offsite is way better and way faster if done right. So when i do it for myself in clients i get top rankings in days versus weeks or months like a lot of places.

Now here's something you wont here alot of marketers and seo people tell you, like I said in the beginning the most dangerous number is 1. Also seo is not the only method for life but it's a great one if done right/

With seo I have some clients so caught up on one keyword because it has so many more hits, but explain you also want to go after the more specific keywords with less searches because more targeted.

Spend time with targeted not broad terms. Like if a restaurant in chicago, you want to focus on keywords for illinois restaurant and chicago restaurants or even go more specific itallian pizza in chicago or whatever you specialize in. if you just target restaurant worldwide you'll get calls worldwide and I'm pretty sure someone from india wont order a pizza from you in chicago.

I leverage the power of offsite seo for phenomenal results but there's so many methods to generate leads online and off but remember to use a few or more methods that target your market you want versus just one way and broad mesasages.

              With direct mail-targeted
any other online or offline method-targeted

Good point, without my trusty odesk.com and basecamphq account I'd be nowhere today.

Don't know why some people value their time so cheaply, I'd rather pay someone and have them do all the work for 2.5$ per hour than sit there and do it myself.

I agree, jazbo! I love the challenge of SEO and the great satisfaction I get from getting sites to page 1 in Google and especially from getting sites into the top-5 spots in Big G.

But, I'm also learning and implementing traffic-driving strategies that have nothing to do with SEO.
Think about it...what if you knew how to drive 1,000 unique visitors a day to any site in any niche, selling any thing?

Would you focus on SEO or driving traffic?

I have to agree with Daddyoh,

Traffic is not equal. If you are getting traffic from hot consumers and
they are coming to your site for a reason its way better than ranking on
page 1 of Google with a keyword that no one buys with.

Back when I was doing a lot of PPC and one ad would get a great click
thru rate but wouldn't take the offer and another add would get 1/2 the CTR but take the offer 50% of the time.

I never would have known that if I hadn't tested, and believe me, there wasn't any logic to it.

But getting traffic that is focused is the most important part of traffic.

        Just my 2 cents.

When I look back I think if you don't have tools to automate the process it can be really annoying and frustrating. But tools also cost money and especially SEO tools cost a monthly membership most of the time so you need to know if it will be profitable for you or just a waste of more money. If you do the right keyword research you also can avoid much time spending on linkbuilding so I would invest much time there first.

The challenge here is not to lose focus. You need to stay focused and figure out what is going to be best for your business and your site. At the end of the day driving traffic = customers = sales.

Just take some daily 30 minutes and do what it has to be done in your SEO.

    Tip:

With the new Google option to check latest results (after a search query hit more option and latest results) you can grab a lot of places to drop your link in content related blogs.

30 minutes, 20 useful comments that will stick.

    SEO made easy anyone?

I also second that Outsourcing could give you enough time to not anymore do this repetitive stuff but rather connect with ventures and make money while these tasks are ultimately working on autopilot through your reliable staff in place.

Well every method is up to keep. SEO is kind of long term traffic. But of course you should how to drive more traffic using different methods.

But I don't agree it is wise to skip it completely.

SEO is the single most popular traffic method. Maybe the problem is we make it hard for ourselves.

Go to Free Traffic System - grab a free account. Start submitting articles on there to keywords with a low 'inanchor' count.

    Watch your site rise....

    Thanks,

You are so right.I tried DIY (do it yourself) SEO but its alot of work. If you have some money, I highly recomend outsourcing most of your tasks.
Without outsourcing 95% of my work I wouldn't be a happy newbie affiliate!

Thanks for this post. Hope everyone has a go at outsourcing SEO.

    Cheers,

SEO isn't hard, it can be only if you make it hard for yourself. Stop going for keywords which take years to rank, and don't just concentrate your efforts on one site. Build many, Stop crying and take action.

Ya I definitely agree that SEO should be done by someone who has the time, energy, and motivation to do it. Plus, if it's their full time job, you can usually find someone to outsource your work to that is much more adept at it than you and make much more use of that time and money than you would be able to. Delegating work intelligently is a big part of making a successful business. That is, delegating to someone or something you can afford, of course

Dont think of it as "seo" think of it as just bringing traffic to your site because every little thing you do will probably improve your traffic.

Getting worried with a system or the right way or wrong way to bring traffic to your site can make it seem harder than it really is...
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[2037308].message }}
  • I agree with ricelander and SilentX. People need people, from growing business to having a healthy social life. Outsourcing is one smart way to grow your business. But it isn't the only way to do business, whether online or offline.

Many netrepreneurs do outsourcing because they have the money to do so. My question to these netrepreneurs is whether they really need to outsource some tasks or not. If you find joy in web design and you're a trained marketer, should you outsource the task of building your own website? If you find fulfillment in helping other netrepreneurs grow their start ups, will you outsource this task if you're a lawyer specializing on ecommerce?

One of the most important decisive factors netrepreneurs should consider in outsourcing is the non-financial benefits their action will accrue. Fulfillment and joy in doing things push a netrepreneur every single day, to face what they need to, to do what they have to do. These things that we find happiness with are what motivate us and are, therefore, indispensible for our well-being.

But if you find a particular task dragging you down even before you begin, you may appreciate waking up in a day when you no longer have to do that job. This is when the outsourcing should come in the picture.

Thousands of marketers do very well without it, and couldn't tell you a lick about SEO.

But I'm learning that I want to combine SEO with creative ways to drive traffic.
