Hi, I'm 50 years old and I struggled with weight loss my entire adult life. For a lot of personal reasons I became determined to get in shape at age 49. Here's something to consider if you're having trouble maintaining the discipline needed to become [or stay] successful: Losing weight will give you the necessary discipline to succeed at whatever else you put your mind to. When you can control the emotions that govern how you take care of your health, the control for whatever else you want to do comes easy. Arnold Schwarzenegger summed it up perfectly: “Once you have the discipline to affect the shape of your body, you have the discipline to accomplish anything.” I can tell you he is exactly correct. It's a total win-win. You look better, feel better- and live longer. Since learning how to lose weight the right way, I can tell you my life has never been better. P.S. I can teach anyone how to choose their weight right down to the pound in about 10 minutes. And it's not a pill thing or a diet thing. It's totally a habit thing. All you have to do is what's been already proven to work [which is to go about it safely and naturally]. PM me if want to know how to do it. I'll warn you though, you have to WANT to do it- because it takes some determination to change years of poor habits. But that's how to get the discipline to accomplish whatever else you set your mind to. P.S.S. I show my picture not because I think I'm buff, but to prove that anyone [even a 50 year old gym class reject] can lose weight- IF they go about the right way. [The no diet, no pill, no herb, no tea, no patch, no weight loss scam way.] I'm a week or so from launching an ebook that I hope will appeal to the "I'm sick of getting ripped of by diet and weight loss industry and I'd like to learn about honest weight loss" crowd. If anyone has any marketing connections or lists in the heath market, I'd like to chat. |

Great post New Mike. I often struggle with getting that extra weight off myself. It really does just come down to self discipline and like you and Arnold said if you can do that, you can do pretty much everything. I've even found that controlling your food intake and have the discipline to exersize everyday carries over into so many other aspects of life. It really is one of the most important, if not the most important thing you can do for yourself in your quest for success in anything. |

Hi, Wow congratulations, that's great when you hear about healthy people. I quit smoking 3 years ago and have been struggling with an extra 20 pounds every since. I run 3 times a week, but some weeks I only go 2 days, etc. I've since switched to using a stair master and am hoping to shed this 20 pounds, but I am all ears for tips and strategies. |

"“Once you have the discipline to affect the shape of your body, you have the discipline to accomplish anything.” Did anyone else read this with an Arnold accent in their head? |

Hi New Mike, I agree 100% althou my experience was not with weight loss but ciarettes. I smoked for more than 50 years, and just these past few years the thought of me not being able to quit made me fill as though I couldn't accomplish anything I set out to do. This just pissed me off to the point that as of today... I'm 3yrs clean. This has shown me that I have the discipline and drive to accomplish all that I want in life. |

Arnold was right. Currently I am using a new approach. And I have lost about 3 kg in 10 days with no diets and exercising. I think you just should have a system and stick with it. |

Hi natasha1, There are many health benefits acquired when one stops smoking. If people stop smoking, the toxic gases in the blood will drop to normal, within two or three weeks, lung function increases and in a few months coughing and shortness of breathe decrease. In a year’s time major diseases can be avoided. |

Everyone is spot on: the key is discipline! That and 20 minutes of interval training every other day! (seriously, if you want to burn fat, get on a treadmill for 20 minutes and do a serious interval workout... 1 minute at 8-10 miles per hour, followed by 1.5 minutes at 4 -5 mph. Repeat until 20 minutes is up. This has been the secret for me). |

Good post. Agreed. Discipline and good habit are the most important things. Doesn't matter what we eat, as long as we do enough and good exercise |
