So many inspiring movies come to mind. One of them is Defending Your Life with Albert Brooks and Meryl Streep. Brooks' sarcastic sense of humor carries him and the movie through the afterlife. Nice message about focusing on the things that matter while you are alive. Another movie I found motivational is not one you'll see on many lists. It is Collateral starring Tom Cruise as a hit man who abducts a cabbie played by Jamie Foxx. The cabbie, at gunpoint, is forced to drive Cruise around to a series of hits. I liked the motivational aspect of the cabbie confronting the fact that for years he has talked about his dreams but never taken action on them. That said, you do have to wade through an awful lot of violence in this one. Great soundtrack though. |

Hatching Pete is freaking hilarious, I love that film, very inspirational too. My favourites are Limitless, The Secret, there is another one that's related to The Secret kind of, it's about a musician, it is really good, I just can't remember the name, ugh.

I feel like I am preaching to the choir, but Pursuit of happyness, The Social Network, and Pirates of Silicon Valley. And I have only listened to the music, but if the main theme of 8 Mile is based on Loose Yourself, then I'll add that to the list.

Hey, Great Thread! There are a lot of great movies here and I've seen lots of them but when I started to think about my most motivational movies I surprised even myself - Shawshank Redemption. It reminds me a lot of online marketing - slowly chipping away, day after day |

Like others I found the Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds -- really inspirational. Also love Braveheart as it's message is one that most people can identify with. Not sure if I saw Cinderella Man mentioned here -- it's a really inspiring film. I watch Requiem for a Dream when I need to get grounded. Also loved Mr. Nobody (also Jared Leto) as it makes you understand the value of not wasting your life. |

The Patriot with Mel Gibson. I think every America loving citizen needs to be reminded of who we are and what makes us different from the rest of the world. This movie is a great portrait of us. Plus it's funny in parts.

Disturbing the Universe. The short version: A lawyer, William Kunstler, goes from a nobody, to a 70's era civil rights champion of an almost unprecedented stature, to a character that others see almost as a media-hungry buffoon. The story told through the eyes of his children. What I see in it: A man who consistently strove to challenge peoples' beliefs and understandings, who questioned everything for himself and challenged others to do the same as a way to find truth. A man who was less afraid of being wrong, than letting the truth go undiscovered. And it's as though everyone, even his own children making the documentary, fail to see the genius in the man. They see his "fall from grace" as a sad discontinuity of his character, rather than as a consistent effort to make people take off the blinders and think for themselves, and challenge for themselves that which they "know". Here's a clip from one of his speeches. What does that have to do with internet marketing? Well, more than anything, it's a view into a different dimension of reality in life. Let me tell you what I mean. Here is a guy who was unpopular for supporting the underdog, and then became popular and famous for it, he gained respect for investing his time and intellect into championing the causes of those who could not defend themselves and he did this in pursuit of what he felt was Right. And then, in the end, he LOST the respect of his "fans" when he began sacrificing his REPUTATION for what he felt was right. And that's where the movie leaves off, with the narrators essentially wondering, "What happened to the great civil rights fighter?" But what they failed to recognize. And what all of his detractors failed to recognize, is that he was being perfectly consistent throughout. In the end, he took the reputation he had built and sacrificed that, not just his time and energies, into doing what he felt was right. And as that reputation became tarnished, people lost faith in him. But what he actually did, was use that tool to fight for what he believed. The story is a tragedy in a way. Where a man was finally left with nothing left to spend, but the power of his reputation, in pursuing his calling. And so he spent it. And died. Misunderstood by all, including the narrators of the film... his own daughters. |
