l will be honest with you. I am sure many of you have read this book by Napoleon Hill. It is probably considered by many as the first self-help book, but there are many people who believe that it does not work. They say that most people reading never became rich which means that it does not work. Now, in my opinion, if someone reads a book and it has not changed his life that does not necessarily mean that the book is defective or cease to be effective. Could it be that the person is in a stage of their lives when they are not ready to digest this information. Also in this book it is more than talking about money, but there are principles that can help you achieve what you want if you are ready to proceed with the principles. Just because most people read the Bible and not change the way they live does not mean that it is ineffective. Think and Grow Rich, even if I disagree with some of the things in the book, I believe that most of these principles, if you actually apply them in our lives can really change the way we live our lives and can make a big difference in achieving our objectives or not. What do you think? Does Think and Grow Rich work. Most people have used the principles of thinking and geting rich without reading the book. Principles do work work if you apply them. Talk back to me here. |

There's a similar free book called The Science of Growing Rich. Basically along the lines of the Law of Attraction...kind of thing. It may work with certain cases, then again, it may not. So the problem is how to replicate the times when things just seem to fall into place, it surely can't be formulated, can it? Nope.

The principles in "think and grow rich" really do work. The principles are based on the law of attraction. But it is one thing to read a book and another thing to apply to principles in it, consistently. We've all been guilty of this sometimes. But yes, in my opinion those principles work. I think the most important is to recognize the power of thought and imagination, which is something we often underestimate. Having desire and faith is also extremely important. Everyone is different, which is why it's so hard to compare results. Everyone has different beliefs, thoughts, motivations, experiences so individual experiences can't be compared. It might be easier for one person and harder for another. |

If it worked for one person then that proves it works. Just like being a millionaire. If one person can do it others can. But is everyone a millionaire who tries? No. Just like everyone who reads the book? It's up to each individual to believe in themselves and to take action with the information they have. What most people don't do is sit and listen for the answers. They are there. But the answers don't come from the conscious mind. They come from the subconscious mind. Beliefs are stored in the subconscious. So... You have to use the conscious mind to affect the subconscious mind in order to change the outside world or what you would believe as reality. (and that is a whole different topic... Is reality what we experience with our senses or what our Mind interprets based on the input from those senses?) And you've heard it before it takes like 30 days to make or break a habit, right? so if you just read the book, chances are you won't grow rich by just thinking about it. What thinking about it does is stir up the ideas and the ways for you to get it done. That's why you need to sit and listen for the answers, but hardly anyone takes time to do that. But then you have to take action on those ideas and opportunities. But with our busy lives no one is aware or conscious of it. I mean Hill even writes "Opportunity often comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat." So those that are aware of the opportunity, that are looking for it will see it. You can do a search for Napolean Hill quotes but check these out... "Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success. " - How many people give up after the first try or first failure. "Persistence is to the character of man as carbon is to steel. " - Again, if you don't give up persistence will pay off. "Procrastination is the bad habit of putting of until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday. " - How many people read the book and then say, cool I'll get to making my millions tomorrow? "Reduce your plan to writing. The moment you complete this, you will have definitely given concrete form to the intangible desire. " - How many people create a plan based off the information they read? How many people procrastinate on this step? "Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." - Get out of your comfort zone. Take a risk. You've heard it before that millionaires have typically made at lost millions many times in their lifetime. If they gave up they'd have been broke. Remember Donald Trump? Success in its highest and noblest form calls for peace of mind and enjoyment and happiness which come only to the man who has found the work that he likes best. - How many people are working for someone else and hate their job, and hate their life? Peace and happiness is what life is all about. So then what is becoming rich? is it really having a million dollars? Maybe it's not having a boss? Maybe it's having time to spend with your friends and family? Maybe it's having the ability to travel whenever you want. It all comes back to "YOU", each individual has their own meaning of what it is to be rich. May not be having a ton of money... But it's up to you to decide what to do with the info and what results you truly desire. P |

If millions of people are recommending it, it probably is helpful. There's no 1 magic pill that will do it. But all this info combines to give you leverage and the final push when needed. So in a way, everything works(unless its pure bulls***). |

Magic pills were only in the Matrix when Neo could choose the blue or the red one. If I went to a meeting with my former co-students from High School (which I won't), I would be probably amazed by the different goals in life. THEY : finish college, get a job, have a nice vacation, get married...blah blah ME: be rich and give jobs. To conclude, mindset is one of the most important things out there and it doesn't really matter which "pill" will help you, just find one. |

I've read that book twice, years ago, and found it very helpful. Then my wife busts out The Secret on DVD one day and I found the principles to be the same, both are the law of attraction and I do without a doubt believe it works. But the belief is different for everyone, so here's what I suggest.. it worked for me. Sit back sometime and just think about your past, think about things that have worked for you and things that haven't. Consider your frame of mine and level of belief that you would get whatever it was you wanted. In my experience, it sure seems that I tended to have very persistent focus on whatever big things happened to me.. both positive AND negative. |

Think and Grow Rich Works... PERIOD. It has worked for me throughout the first 3 years of my business and I know others who have applied the philosophy as well. There is a guy named Bill Bartmann who is a self made billionaire (I'm sure many have heard of him). When he was young and stupid, he got really drunk and fell down a flight of stairs. They told him he was going to be paralyzed from the waist down. While he was sitting in the hospital bed pissed off at the doctors for telling him he would be paralyzed, the only thing he had to pass the time was a copy of Think and Grow Rich. He read the book over and over again and credits his FULL RECOVERY and subsequent wealth all to that one book. Many others have similar stories. The book works |

I agree that it does work if people will apply the principles. I love what you said about Bill Bartmann. Truly inspirational

I've read is once. Gave it to a friend and never got it back. He hasn't said anything about it so I'm assuming he hasn't read it. I need to get another copy so I can read it again. I must be surrounding myself with the wrong people because even if I talk about the book with someone I get alot of "Yeah, but..." Everybody's got an excuse not to read it. I do believe the law of attraction works in some way. I ended up owning alot of what I visualized about by getting some of it dirt cheap and some for free. I just haven't seen the money yet.

You need to take action and think outside the box. You can have the greatest tool of the world. What if you do not use it wisely? =) Apart from this book, how many people read 'rich dad, poor dad'? What if you memorise the whole book and go to sleep or carry on with your normal routine life? |

I guess it really depends on the individuals. As you said someone can read the book but not even consider applying it. As to think rich and grow rich. I don't really agree with that. You can think rich all you want and but if you don't work towards it and work hard than what's the point right? or am I missing something here. |

You can tell when a person hasn't read the book and is just judging by it's title. Just because it says "think" in the title, people assume it's all woo-woo and no action. That's kinda how The Secret was marketed, but TaGR goes much further. Chapters 7-10 are all about taking ACTION... ...but only after you've identified your burning DESIRE¹, applied FAITH that you will have it, made your subconscious mind your partner using AUTO-SUGGESTION, took advantage of your SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, and applied your IMAGINATION to the previous to come up with new solutions. Also, this book is one you MUST read over and over at DIFFERENT times of your life. It's like a complex onion of wisdom, that only makes sense to your current level of AWARENESS. Read it again, and again, and again....until you become what you desire. Yearly is good enough if your super busy. You need to mix in some life experience between readings to get the full effect. For me, it feels like a revised version every time I read it. It's weird, but that's how classic writings work. Matter of fact, I think it's time for another read now! ![]() ¹Major Definite Purpose |

Does this book give any more information other than the need to have positive thoughts in order to get rich?

I am not sure what the book says, I have never read it, but I can assure you that there are spiritual laws at work in the universe that all people are governed by even if they do not know nor believe that they are. I keep hearing this term "the law of attraction" which is really a watered down word, because what it really is, is "the law of believing". The law of believing is what attacts positive or negative things to people, meaning it controls the general flow of all peoples lives. There are other variables involved but I can't really take the time to explain them on this thread. Believing is a law, all people believe something, some believe this and some believe that, its never a question of do you believe, but what are you believing. Are you negative, do you have a negative mindset, which basically is believing, but its negative believing which will bring negative results. Positive believing will bring positive results to people, no matter who you are.... Now I am not talking about pie in the sky fake platittudes, where someone says that they are positive with their mouth but in their heart they are actually negative and every action they take is an action that is not in harmony with what they say they are positive about.... I am talking about absolute confidence, expectation, believing expectation, no doubt ect.... This is possible but its not common, it can be taught and learned and applied, but the reason most never reach it, is because they believe the wrong sources of information, and base their decisions on the wrong sources of information. Unreliable sources of information. Most people never get to the point of thinking about what they think about, they never examine their thoughts and take control of their thoughts. They simply react to situations.... In order to truly be successful you have to be a master of your mind, of your thoughts, which in turn will help you become a master of believing. You determine your future, your believing can and does change circumstances about you. Believing is like the rudder of ship, a rudder determines where the ship goes, you by your believing determine where you go and end up in life. Your the master of your own ship. Your believing is built by the thoughts that you allow to enter your heart, the innermost center of your being, the part that makes you-you. You have to watch your thoughts, you have to take control of your thoughts, you have to get rid of the bad ones and put in the good, and that is how you build a positive believing mindset.... Now, this law of believing is much, much deeper than what I am saying but there is only so much that I can share about it, because its a biblically based principle and not all on here are believers. It doesn't matter though, because this law works for all people, its just that believers have more available to them because they have more information available to them to believe in, namely the bible. |

Not sure if this was directed at me, but yes I have read it, my post was not a slight on the book which is great, I was trying to use the title to summarize the content. Like many great self help books this one is lots of common sense. I don't think people will have an ah ha moment but it will confirm what they already believed to be true. |

| I have read the book and I think it is a great read. The thing is, what most people do is buy a new product and expect the product to automatically change their lives, instead of actually changing themself's, by implementing what they have learned. Their is no quick fix, you have to put in the time and effort. "The principles always work, if you work the principles" - Jack Canfield |

Ultimately it is a mind map of the thought processes shared by those who are rich, or extremely successful in their field. It shows how you need to think in order to get rich. I don't like to say this book "worked" for me as I like to think my own efforts, persistance, and work ethic are important too, however I have read this book twice (as well as flicking through a bit more occasionally) and there are a lot of principles which I started to follow from it which really helped me succeed in a lot of ways. I would recommend this book to everyone, it is still, in my opinion one of the best books (and first of it's kind - you can see soooo much of what is rehashed in "The Secret" from here) of it's kind. | |

Magic pills were only in the Matrix when Neo could choose the blue or the red one.- Actually this is a metaphor for life. We all have choices in life we can either take action and take the red pill or we can put it back, live our lives like an assembly line, not taking action or thinking for ourselves. Yes, we all have choices to make, the red pill and create your own destiny or sink back to what you've been doing and don't make any changes. People... The choice is yours. You have ALL the answers to be as wealthy or free as you want, you just have to believe you can have it and focus on what you WANT not what you DON'T Want. Take the red pill and try it. Get out of your comfort zone and doing something. |

Believing comes first, then want, sacrifice, doing, paying, determination, faith, hope, and the list goes on. What you believe determines everything that happens in your life. Children learn what they live and they believe what they learn and by age 5 children have already learned most of what they will believe growing up. Who believes that? People who think. Then changes can be made. Teach your kids to think instead of listen and they'll end up doing what you want. Bad association spoils useful habits. Who believes that? People who think. Then changes in friends, music, TV & movies can be made. The past becomes the future for people who don't think because nothing changes. Think and Grow Rich has nothing to do with money. Absolutely nothing and I didn't even read but the first 5 pages. It means THINK and you can grow into the person you've always wanted to be. Jim Rohn makes an important point here: "Dont be a follower, be a student. A person can read a book and that says do this, this and this and you will live forever. Then read a second book that says, do what was said in the other book and you will die. You get stuck which one am I supposed to choose to do. The point is, get pro-active, and activated your brain. Read both, and make a decision. Be a student not a follower" Also, a mentor of mine stresses the importance of reading books more than once (or listening to audios more many times over), not because the content changes, but because you've changed after reading it, and therefore you pick up on different things, you see things in a different light" |

I'm reminded of Will Smith's line: "Don't hate the player, hate the game." But in this case it would be, "Don't blame the book just because some who read it didn't make it work." Hard to demonstrate that it's the book's fault. |

I haven't even finished "Think and Grow Rich" and I've already seen improvements in my life. But I'm at a place where I WANT to change my perspectives and become a better person. So I'm very receptive to what it has to say at this point in my life. I know someone who read it and it has done absolutely jack for her. But everything else she is doing points to fear of success. Her actions project loud and clear that she isn't ready for changes in her life. It's sad, but it is where she is at. This isn't the case for everyone who doesn't benefit from this book. But I think a lot of the time it is whether the reader is ready for what the book holds. Also, there is a reason why there are more self-help books out there than can be counted. Not everything speaks to everyone in the same ways. So tomorrow my friend may find a different book with a similar message and completely change. It's all down to the individual's reception of the message. (Sorry if someone already said that.) |
