Default Barack Obama and the Law of Attraction...

Read over this quote from Barack, and tell me if you see what I see...

'Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other
people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.'

Does anyone else see the words of a man deeply immersed in the law of attraction in these words? Does anyone else see him trying to spread that message to the American people? I sure can.

It would certainly be a wonderful thing if we all had a stage like the one he has to share our wisdom.

His speechwriter should be contributing to this forum.

Many of the great historical speeches are intended to empower the listener. That is the true source of leadership.

Don't forget, when you're not fighting them on the beaches, have a dream and ask yourself what you can do for your country! But don't wait four score and twenty years.

It's actually a quote from Marianne Williamson, it is from her 1992 book, "Return to Love"and become famous when Nelson Mandela used it in a speech. But inspiring indeed, no matter who sourced it.

I've always loved that quote!

I'm disappointed, though, that when he delivered those lines his speechwriters didn't give some kind of attribution or credit for the right source. It leaves everyone to think that Barack himself came up with it. And, that's just wrong.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now and get on with life.

Even though the quote is from Marianne Williamson, the content of the quote is extremely valuable if taken in, owned and applied in a way that can be a catalyst for personal success and development.

Even though I'm not necessarily an Obama fan, it's still true and applicable if he HAD said/written it.

Thanks, Ralf, for giving credit where it is due. You beat me to it!

Barrack's speechwriting team was headed by Ted Sorenson. If the name doesn't ring a bell, it should.

Ted Sorenson was John F. Kennedy's speechwriter.

Ted is the guy who wrote the, "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask, rather, what you can do for your country" speech.

The speech that inspired millions of young people to march for civil rights, build grassroots political coalitions, and join the Peace Corps.

Ted also wrote Obama's speech to the 2004 Democratic National Convention - the speech that catapulted Obama to the national stage.

And yes, Ted had worked as an advertising copywriter.

If you want to see some examples of killer persuasive writing, go read some of the great political speeches. These are words that fired the imagination of entire nations to want the most ephemeral of products - an idea.

Try:

Lincon - Gettysburg Address
Winston Churchill - I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, sweat, and tears.
Martin Luther King - I have a Dream
John F. Kennedy - Ask not what your country can do for you
Roosevelt - Pearl Harbor Address
Ronald Regan - Challenger Shuttle Disaster Address

just for starters...

Never heard of him. Seeing his part in several historic speeches, isn't it amazing what power and influence a relatively unknown person can have in the background?

That should be a writer to study!!!

Thanks for the information.

Cherilyn. There are people who hear of the law of attraction and then try to apply it, and then there are people like Barack Obama. It is individuals like Obama with whom the law of attraction derived. It is from those who witnessed through the success of people like Obama that there seemed to be a correlation between success and positive thinking. So if you're suggesting that Obama is using the law of attraction, I will tell you as I have told many others, that you're pushing it. If you're stating that Obama's success may partly be attributed with his positive views, the central idea of the law fo attraction, then I'd say you're correct.

Mind clearing your statement up for me?

Agreed. Great quote. To have a stage such as his, would be powerful. But who's to say we can't create our own stage and take a stand. Thanks for the post!

A fool attempting to sound wise by speaking the words of a plagiarizing speech writer. I see consistency.

Ted Sorenson was a very interesting man, saw him speak on C-Span on many occasions. His stories and remembrances of JFK and other political figures were very interesting.

Sorry I cannot stand the man and all I see is someone trying to tear America apart and spread socialism. If he was so “Positive” and steeped in the law of attraction, he would be spending his time trying to unite the country and the people, not hammer a divide between them.

He bad mouths the rich and successful, those that have made it.

I personally know a number of people that are in his “evil” 1%, they started with NOTHING, worked hard, took risks and after YEARS of struggle are now enjoying the success they EARNED.

It wasn’t given to them, they have NO obligation to share it with others, yet Obama treats them like evil people that don’t have a right to their success.

NO, he is not a person steeped in the law of attraction, he is the man steeped in the law of division.

Besides those are not his words anyway, just something he took form someone else. You know you got the share the wealth even if you have to take it...

This is very inspirational. Sometimes we fear our strengths and doubt our capabilities.
