Interesting. I too have been thinking about goal-setting lately. I had all these plans, but lately I feel like I'm just floating through life. I guess it's time to sit down, and figure out what I want out of it.

As far as self-help topics go, I've spent a lot of time reading about persuasion/influence. I've read Cialdini's works and, of course, Dale Carnegie's How To Win Friends And Influence People.

Speaking of that book, I am currently reading a biography of Warren Buffet, and he was really inspired by Dale Carnegie's book. He also took his public speaking courses back in the day. I've always thought of taking one of these courses.

Thanks for this thread. Got me thinking.

Curt.

There are some good resources out there. One I came across recently was on a lot of topics related to better living with hypnosis. You can sure give it a try. I also noticed that they are offering a free mp3.

I really enjoy reading about the brain, and how it is wired for emotion. Emotion is our heritage, it's our evolution, yet so easily understood by mainstream media.

I also like to learn about the subconscious, because there is so much that we don't know about it. It's like this giant glacier of consciousness, where we can barely see the tip. What's fun is that cognitive psychology is starting to investigate the subconscious more, with things like priming and suggestion. It's so applicable to self-help, because we need to understand the subconscious if we are to gain conscious control over our lives.

The buddha says, "To help yourself....help someone else."

A man asked the famous psychiatrist, Dr. Carl Menninger, "What would you advise a person to do if he felt a nervous breakdown coming on?" Most people expected him to reply, "Consult a psychiatrist." To their astonishment he replied, "Lock up your house, go across the railroad tracks, find someone in need and do something to help that person."

Great post. That's why we are here in the world you know. To make a difference!

Problem is many people are waiting to get lots of money to do so. In the process they end up getting frustrated and develop negative emotions up to a point they end up not knowing what is the main purpose of being a human.

This is a great little post.

I have to say I find something new every single day. For instance...If I think I am overindulging and not moderating in something...I start doing a search online and I find great resources to help me.

Relationships..procrastination, back stengthening, any thing that pops into my head that I can improve on...this internet is so quick and fast what a blessing. Even if I felt I was not laughing enough....problem gets solved right away now.

I honestly think this is where self help is going to be honest. I think that most of us know or have read or whatever tons of stuff about goal setting, how the mind works, etc...

I think the next phase for the self help community is on a spiritual level. We want to connect with our lives, the world, our goals, our dreams, our relationships, and everything else on a deeper more meaningful level, and we are looking for information that will help us do just that.

The beautiful part is that science is catching up to us with areas such as psychology and quantum physics. The next 20 years of self help should be extremely interesting and I look for a new group of experts and guru's to come out in front based on this spiritual improvement idea.

Of course I could be wrong, but we will see.

I personally look for information that allows me to achieve my goals and dreams and become a better person, but in the process, I am looking for a feeling of being connected and improved and more in tune with things including success, animals, trees, life, my wife, my kids, myself, and everything else.

To get back to a state of being like when I was a kid. When the rain was peaceful, and I could smell it in the air. When I remembered to look at the stars, and felt like a part of it. When the sun on my face was a welcome feeling and I would spend hours feeling it.
That's awesome man. I even remember those peaceful days when I can smell the rain and have the peace within when I stare at nature.

Yes self help is going to connect people to spirituality and the works of the spiritual realm

Default Re: What Are Your Best Self Help Topics

I think that everybody here already mentioned the most interesting topics.

For those who are interested in the subconscious mind and its power I would suggest scientific dream interpretation without a doubt, not only because I’m an expert on this field but because when you translate the dream messages you learn what the unconscious mind that produces your dreams is showing you, what means that you are not alone: you discover a wise brain that is constantly protecting you and helping you in all ways.

This is a combination of forces: the unconscious mind is a natural doctor that depends on the dreamer, because if the dreamer won’t follow its directions and put them in practice, nothing has any value. On the other hand, the dreamer will never be able to understand as much as he (or she) does with the help of the unconscious mind, so this is a kind of self-help with constant support.

Another great topic is FORGIVENESS

I listed a few quotes Simon Preacher shares on his Twitter Page where he shares motivation and inspiration

***************************

“When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free.” - C Ponder

***************************
“There is no love without forgiveness, and there is no forgiveness without love.” - Bryant H. McGill

***************************
The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. ~Mahatma Gandhi

***************************
To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you. ~Lewis B. Smedes

***************************
Forgiveness is a funny thing. It warms the heart and cools the sting. ~William Arthur Ward

***************************

Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future. ~Paul Boese

***********************************

Forgive all who have offended you, not for them, but for yourself. ~Harriet Nelson

************************************

It's not over until it is Over!
