I was watching the women's tennis last summer on TV (I think it was the French Open, but can't be sure).
The commentators were discussing the repeated success of one of the players, and one asked the other how this particular player managed to achieve so many victories. The response sticks in my mind to this day: "She's got into the habit of winning". The habit of winning. In other words, going onto a tennis court, facing tough opposition and beating them had become a habit; a regular, everyday occurrence. Winning had become ordinary and the 'norm'. Almost run-of-the-mill. It was a habit. There was no other expected outcome. Let me re-state that one more way, because this is worth dwelling upon: Winning had become this player's comfort zone. A person's comfort zone is somewhere predictable and safe, somewhere that they're used to dwelling. This female tennis player had trained her brain so deeply to attend a tournament rather than miss it, to focus rather than be distracted and to win rather than lose that marching onto a tennis court a beating her opponent had become the place where she expected to be and was most comfortable. She had got into the habit of winning. I long for the day when creating, promoting and selling information products becomes my comfort zone. I look forward to getting into the habit of prospering. Perhaps that should be my goal for 2009. John. |

Goodluck Norman with that. I tried to pay attention to Forex but I guess I have my own strength. It didn't sink in for me. My wife and I will probably get an investor to do it for us.
Sorry out of question. I wanted to say, I wish you success with your forex trading business. John & Norman Guys, PM me next year to let me know how your businesses are doing. God bless Taz |

I've read: The only way to break a Bad habit, is to replace it with a Good habit.
I think I'll choose one of my bad habits to be replaced with this good one... Thanks John, - Jared |

Everyone can be a winner.
For those who opt to be a loser are those that do not persevere. Take small steps at a time and you will find yourself closer to where you want to be. |

But of course, this isn't how life works. Many situations allow you to try to succeed as many times as you want. So I think that the two options of "success" and "failure" should be replaced by three far better descriptions of the options that we have: "Inaction", "An honest attempt" and "Success". These three are closer to the way that life is because they convey the idea that success doesn't have to appear on the first try; rather, it can be the result of perseverance. | |

Is there such a thing as "winners" and "losers"? And how would we gauge that anyway? In any case getting into the habit of accomplishing what's important to you is a great thing. Something I've been striving for so thank you for the illuminating post John. I've never really though of it as being the habit of winning yet somehow knew that's exactly what it is.

Good questions, ZigZag. "Winninng" and "losing" is only easy to measure on a simple scale and usually that scale is imposed by someone else. When people set their own goals, then they become the ones who determine whether they are a winner or a loser.

The Habit Of Winning
Think about Donald Trump for a minute. What happened in the 80s, he became a business tycoon, driven to win no doubt about that. Then he became comfortable, had problems with his personal life, that then affected his business. What happened then in the early 90s......he lost a lot of money and had debts close to a billion dollars. Many people thought, he wasn't gonna make it. It was a great debt. Some people will even commit suicide. What about Donald. Did he commit suicide........NO. Did he complain to God how unjust and unfavorable he is.......NO Did he blame his Ex and colleagues for all those debts........NO What did he do? He took responsibility of all his downfalls. He then regrouped all his being.......and set down to devise a strategy to become profitable again. He went back to real estate, he found other streams of income, ever since he has built new trump towers around the world. Did he do it......YES HE DID IT. He went back to do what he likes to do, he also acquired another stream of income called the apprentice which is a TV program Now he has just received good news to build one of the biggest golf courses in Europe (Location: Scotland). Is he lucky....No.....Everyone is lucky to be alive. The medicine is the mindset of persevering to win. The habit of winning......Period! |

For me the habit of winning is to always look for the positive in any situation. Sometimes it takes a little while, but it is so much better to find that little glimmer than to keep looking at the pile of garbage.

Developing a winning personality is a habit. It dosn't actually mater wheather you are in one type of competition or the other, life is a battle and you can develop a winning attitude in the battle of life.
Developing a habit in any thing involves repetition of an act or doing something repeatedly until it becomes a habit or a part of your personality. To develop a winning habit, one has to always think in terms of success in what ever undertaking one is involves, be an expectant mother of success. And when this success conciousness becomes a part of you, you will always succeed in whatever you do. Wishing you successsthrough life. |

Hey John,
Great post it is interesting how some people are able to make winning a habit. They expect to win and anything else is unacceptable. I think getting out of your comfort zone, at least for me, only comes through repetition. Through repetition what seems very uncomfortable in the beginning will seem like second nature. Repetition and belief may be two main ingredients to consider. Affirmations may be another. Consciously reprogramming the subconscious with what you want to achieve. To your success! Thanks! |

It's really all in the mindset. But I'm sure you know that.
I wanted to give my own example though. Earlier this year, my girlfriend of almost two years dumps me because she'd cheated on me at least a dozen times with at least six guys. I was madly in love. My performance got shattered at work, and I was fired. I was jobless for two months, in which time I had to move back in with my parents. When I finally got a job, it was as a landscaper. And I had more near death experiences on that job than any other. Almost getting pulled into a wood chipper, falling off roofs, and having trees almost fall on me. I was horribly depressed. HORRIBLY depressed. But, one day I came to a realization while listening to one of my favorite songs, "One (Always Hardcore)" by Scooter, a German techno artist. I listened to it a dozen times in a row. Then I realized, screw whatever happens. I win automatically. Maybe not this very minuet, but I'm going to win at everything that comes at me, and I'm going to be unshakable for the rest of my life. Now, here I am, in a wonderfully fantastic relationship with an older girl who loves me just the way I am, I'm making money with one of my favorite pastimes, and I'm moving her out here to Colorado very soon. Believe you'll win, and you certainly will. -Sean |
