Richest Man in Babylon Summary

Have you read the book 'The Richest man in babylon'?

The Richest Man in Babylon is on my must-read list right after the Bible. One of the most PRACTICAL, warm, enlightening, motivating money book I've ever read. Got me off my duff and into the realities of economics. Yes, I've got money jingling in my pockets that I don't have to spend!

See what others are saying about this book : Amazon.com: The Richest Man in Babylon (9780451205360): George S. Clason: Books

This is the easiest book to read about managing one's personal financial affairs, and the best book I can recommend. After two degrees, I still haven't read any book or magazine that has had more impact on my personal financial situation. If one truly lives by the principles listed, they will have a successful financial future. I've given away many of these books for weddings, graduations, and personal gifts - It is worth more than any other financial gift one can give. It teaches people to be self reliant, even if their present situation seems financially hopeless. There is a solution.

READ IT and you too can totally debt-free and well on the way to becomming wealthy. In the past I've tried to teach friends who are really struggling financially how to get things under control. What I've found is that I can't possibly say it better or in a more compelling way than George S. Clason does in this superb book.

Buy it, read it, and put it next to your bible and dictionary. Schools should be required to give a copy out with the cap and gowns!

This is a great book for people in financial dumps, this is the best financial advice you'll ever get.

Below you can download my version of the 'Richest Man in Babylon' which is a short 10 page report only contaning the main ideas and concepts from the book.

What is your take on this book?

Since this has nothing to do with this thread, it really doesn't belong here. You are free to start your own thread in an appropriate forum.

Thank you for pointing this out to me. I do not understand all aspects of how things work here yet , perhaps you can kindly advise me further.
Can anyone start a thread or do you need so many posts or paid membership. Also I am not sure which is an appropriate (sub) forum of WF as I do not know which this is, as I was directly following the wise and kind posts of this threads author, so I had thought I was in the appropriate one.
Perhaps you can understand my perspective
As I was commenting to do with where a link here from the person starting this thread went to, and it also seemed to me to match the flavor of the thread ie (empowering) ethics in our biz practises
" The Richest Man in Babylon is on my must-read list right after the Bible. One of the most PRACTICAL, warm, enlightening, motivating money book I've ever read"
So I did not realise it was in any way 'inappropriate'.
Had I access to PM I would have gone that route rather than made myself vulnerable in my openness to having my butt bit
        kind regards LotusDragon

            @ oncewerewarriors Hi
The Eye of the Needle is actually a very narrow gate in the old walls of the city. There are many things in the bible and such that do not give us the cultural context, so is bound to be confusing.

[There are a bunch of self-development books but the Bible is the best of them all. You are missing a lot if you only know about the Camel and needle. That should be the first book everyone reads.]

            @ Tryit Hi
I prefer referencing to the pearls of wisdom others have picked out of it and shared as they are radiant. Reading it itself, I find mega confusing.
I was brought up a mixture of 3 Christian faiths and studied such extensively, so whilst I agree in sentiment, even with my history
I would still need a very good reference manual to guide me and not get confused:confused: ( without that itself being a misleading interpretation).
So how would someone new to it fair.
(a dedicated Babel fish could come in handy )

            Example
'Honour your Father And Mother' ,
            conversely
'Lest you hate your mother and father and rise up and follow Me'.

Now the first could mean either respecting ones parents or ones Heavenly Father and Mother.

The second I have come to understand as meaning

Ones parents represent (as they are who first teach us re upbringing) our societal training, conditioning, the ways of the society that you were born into at that point and place in history, therefore it is like a fashion and changeable.
Hate means to separate oneself from
'Rise up and follow Me' representing the higher unchanging principles such 'loving one another and being like the Good Samaritan'
who was being shown as an example by his good deeds and how that was more important than his being a different religion ( in fact one in conflict )
to those of the same religion as the Nazarene* ie Judaism.

So simplified it means to put aside the ways of the world and to live by the higher principles of loving one another.

It took me many years study to decipher that bit alone

(btw *Joshua is a closer translation, as sadly Jesus the name in all the innocent children's hymns and beloved by many actually comes from the Greek translation Ieossus meaning son of Zeus (a raper of young virgins!)

(also the 'not hiding ones Light under a bushel' relates to using our particular experiences and gifts in service and that will in turn aid ones business )

[But not everyone adheres to the christian faith so are we heathens and savages?]

            @oncewerewarriors dear fellow heathen
Despite my upbringing and understandings of and living by such as The Good Samaritan, many calling themselves Christians would see me as such
I find it is helpful to distinguish between the original wisdom shared such as "Judge not lest ye be judged" and how mankind has perverted it. How many experience that many calling themselves Christian are some of the most judgemental people they know.

Personally I do not care what a person's religion or not, it is how they treat others is that matters most to me

            If of any interest
my longer ramble re my mention of Bible (as is in title of thread),

I referenced that re ethics and do respect there are many pearls of wisdom within, as there are in many other sacred and ancient texts.
Some actually contain scientific observations wrapped in allegory.
I however prefer to go by direct experience which leads to a better understanding of such pearls than to be guided by anything man has tampered with, as unfortunately that is the case with virtually all religions.

So some Christians may see me as a heathen whereas others may enjoy an exchange about what insights our studies and experiences have given us.

If you look to the essence rather than the outer forms of each religion such as in the mystical (or experiential) in Christianity such as the Essenes,
            Gnosticism and early Celtic Christianity.
Christianity's foundation is Judaism, as Jesus was a Jew and many aspects of the Kabbalah pertain to the mystical,
In Islam there is Sufi, and Jesus is mentioned respectfully many times in the Koran, Mohammed actually said to respect others of The Book, ie Old and New Testament .
Sikhism and Hinduism are quite mystical and inclusive and respectful of other religions although all religions contain those who are intolerant and many who follow the letter of the law rather than it's spirit, what nowadays may be called fundamentalists, are not tolerant of either their own mystical tradition or other religions.

If you look you may well find all religions refer to the same source and that that is the same as what the Quantum Scientists have discovered and those who are spiritual amongst them will confirm that.
John Hagelin is one such and I had the privilege of being taught the essence of Quantum Physics by him in the early 70's.

This brings things full circle as many self development modalities (including the Bible) are in one way or another to do with consciously using our thoughts in relationship to the Quantum Field ( Carl Jung's collective unconscious also relates) to bring about what we desire and many of the Enlightened older Classics that are used by many in biz such as Think and Grow Rich Napoleon Hill.
again I suggest you check out Brutt77's WSO on this and Lucas Adamski has a utube video on it or similar.

If you visit the Brutt77 WSO page you will see he is more interested in you getting it, than he is in him profiting from it. I am at this point not an affiliate of this though may decide to become one as I am thinking I maybe able to do a better review on this than other WSO's in whose fields I am a newbie.

I'm buying a speed reader app as is 1/2 price today so may even wizz through the condensed versions of these
and yeah full circle back to theme The RICHEST (WO)MAN IN BABYLON

          No problem.

Yes, anyone can start a thread. You are going to get some push-back if it comes across as a thinly-veiled ad.

I don't see a forum dedicated to affiliate marketing so the main forum may work. Others will direct you as needed.

          All the best,

          Joe Mobley

Thank you for helpful feedback Joe .
As I presently only do voluntary work ( in an area too mystical for most folks here to get, though it is actually related to Quantum ) I do not think I would be encountering the push back, though I do appreciate being forewarned.
            Re suitable forum
It's more I am looking to connect with others on a similar wavelength re ethically orientated biz , whether that be relevant niches, PLR, affiliation etc (to support services I have always given freely).
So I am here on WF learning a bit about what in IM is adaptable whether it be time saving tools or techniques for finding the folk you can be of service to
No need I list everything, you'll get my drift.
It would be good to share ideas and the different models we are exploring, the products we have found to be worthy etc.

It would also be good to have a group in which to explore such and which WSO's would best suit.

As I am one of the newbies running into ( to put it positively) financial challenges re WSO sales bombardment and also IM tactics of OTO's used here and ( in what are supposed to be ethical companies ) elsewhere, I saw this book and thread about it as helpful and relevant.

I also appreciate the condensing down of this and other worthy books that the author of this thread has not advertised here, as his worthy WSO.
If anyone here does not know about that, I think they will benefit from checking it out. I am not affiliated with him just recognising it's value to folks.

Please do not be put off by the Bible reference here re going to check that out, as it also condenses classic marketing/attitude Guru's works into quick and accessible form.

We all believe in a higher power of some sort. The principals are what count.

    Hey, lotusdragon,

I'm impressed. You're quite the philosopher, theologian, historian, scribe and poet, and oh so prolific with words. I trust they'll pass Copyscape. (Just kidding.)

And Albion. Now that's somewhere you don't hear about everyday ...
(unless you're referring to albion.edu ... now maybe we could all get a backlink there).
Isn't that the ancient Greek name for the Isles of Great Britain? or something?

Oops. Sorry. A little off topic. That subject's best suited to the geography forum.

Now, where was I? Oh, yes, now I remember ...

As for "The Richest Man In Babylon" ... a great book; a possible must-read (but not on par with the Bible).

Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote?

Read the book. It takes up a proud place in my library.

It's good to introduce someone into the world of diligent personal finance.

A few other books I would recommend would be:

Rich Dad Poor Dad (low on actual advice but a good mindset shifter).

    and

The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ Demarco.

    Both solid books.
