Now I'm not sure if there is a definite correlation between age and happiness, but as we get older, our thoughts become more complex and there are more and more things that worry us. So in your point of view, have you become happier with age, or less happy? |

Good question Li Weng. Personally the older I get the happier I become. Why? Because I keep learning, evolving, growing, and progressing. I keep learning new things meeting new people and accomplishing what's important to me. Perhaps the reason why many people aren't as happy as they get older is because they don't have worthwhile ambitions and they're not accomplishing what's important to them. I had a similar conversation with someone recently and they said that you're happier when you're younger. That the best time of your life is when you're a kid. And I disagreed for the same reason. As I heard in a song today: "Remember the best times are yet to come." I love life and I wish I could be here forever. (Or at least a very long time.) There's certainly more challenges when you're older but that's one of the things I enjoy. Life would be boring if everything was easy. One woman I was having a conversation with who must be about 75 said: "I never think about how old I am and when my Doctor said my ailment was because of my age I had to remind myself that I'm an old lady." Then she chuckled and said:"But I feel young!" So I guess the old saying is true. My point of view is that I'm happier now that I'm older and I'm not concerened about aging. What's your opinion Li Weng? |

I think its a natural fact that all babies are born happy. They smile and laugh and have not even heard one of my corny jokes yet! Unfortunately society conditons people not to be. Or to have a crutch to be happy, like a stimulant or shiny toy. As we get older, we become more grateful, (hopefully) and that also becomes an additional source of happiness. As individuals there is always a class clown that everyone loves to be around or a "life of the party" type or just a person who sees the bright side no matter what and is never too uptight. If we really tried..we all could become that person at any age. |

Hello, Li: I guess, in a sense, the older I get, the happier I get, but I think it is because I have learned to worry less, not more. I have learned that most of the things we worry about never come to pass, so why waste the time and energy? There are still things I worry about — some in a natural, healthy way, and some in a stressed-out unhealthy and unnecessary way. But most of the time, I manage to worry less, feel more relaxed, and enjoy life more. I guess that can be equated to greater "happiness." GT |

I don't think age an issue but, atttitude is and I find that the older I get, the less I care about about what others think about me. This frees me to be my self a little more. Don't get me wrong, I don't go out of my way to upset people or give them reasons not to like me. It's just that what others think about me is their opinion that they are entitled to. I also realize that this is just a part of the puzzle. Really what it comes down to is choosing to be happy because we want to no matter what our age is. I think much of my youth was wasted in trying to conform - wearing the right clothes, watching the right movies, having acceptable friends.... It's a waste. Chhose to be you and choose to be happy. You're right.. Life becomes more complicated as we get older.. The more complicated our life is, the harder it is to be happy as more problems flood our thoughts and general well-being.. I think the solution to this is that we should be content with simple living and having simple needs.. But this is a very hard to follow proposition. I guess it just depends on the individual on how he/she handles things and provide balance to his life..

Love your answer. In an ideal world - this is the right attitude to go with. But, it is definitely easier said than done for most people. Quote:

I am not too old yet so I don't know. So far my childhood times were the best when I simply went to school with great friends, and did not have to worry about money. Maybe as life goes on a little more things will get better, but for now I am neither happier nor less happy as I am older than I once was.

Statistically I think you're happiest in your 50s and 60s. It's true you have more to worry about as you get older but you also learn more ways to deal with the problems you face so i think it changes depending on the person

I don`t think there is direct correlation between age and happiness. I would rather consider existence of relationship between character and happiness. Now, there is correlation between character and maturity. However, certainly not all people of same age have same character neither are equally happy. So it is all individual. |

I do miss my carefree childhood days when the stuff I had to worry about were homework and making new friends. But I think that having to deal with problems as we grow older are very natural and good signs of maturity. Happiness is a choice. We can still be very happy at any age.

True.. the more we increase our age, the more things we thought of and so we tend to worry about much more things.. However, there are people who stay more happy as they grew older.. This people are the ones who had good retirement experience and which has good sons and daughter and take care of them :-) Happiness is about being at peace and with less troubles..can this be achieved? Ofcourse yes.. |

Thank G-d as I have reached 60 I have been quite happy. I think it doesn't matter what age one is. Happiness is a state of mind. If you wake up in the morning and decide that you are going to be happy. Trust me you will be happy. |

When you are a kid, happiness is just your normal state of being. You don't think about it. You just live it. This is why impoverished kids, living in what most would consider terrible conditions, still tend to be happy. As we get older, we are exposed to more things, more opportunities, more people. We take on more and more responsibilities. Our lives get busier and busier, and we become more and more focused on the burdens we have accepted. We spend less time simply playing. Stress is a part of life at all ages, but when we are young, we are more adept at getting past it. As we age, unless we consciously learn techniques to deal with it, stress becomes something that we tend to focus on more. And, what you focus on is what you get, right? So, my bottom line is that with age comes the necessity of intentional happiness. It's a choice you must make. |

I'm not sure if you are being serious or sarcastic. If serious I say "BAHHHH!" With age comes wisdom. With wisdom comes appreciation. You finally understand what "stop and smell the roses" really means I believe. I marvel more at things now, 49 years of age, than I did when I was chasing tail at 19 years of age. I crave the challenges more now than I ever had. Who in their right mind would go after the video gaming niche and compete with the gazzilionaires without investing a dime?! Guess I would...and I never once asked how hard would it be but asked how challenging will it be? I'm bored with it now and have a new adventure in sight. This summer my son and I are strapping a webcam on our van and heading across country to California. We plan to take most of the summer to get there. The webcam is for the launch of our website American Travel Blog where we will utilize all of the sites tools to document a hopefully amazing adventure. After that he will begin his sound engineering training mentored by a noteworthy company in the industry located in CA. I'll be working from somewhere that is away from the cold winters I have now suffered for years on end and watch as he turns into the man he desires to be. I am thrilled to death! How many of you 20 year olds get to travel across country on an adventure with your 18 year old son? A trip that will help shape his future. I will promise you that we will live something that we will never forget. No, there is no age in me, only boredom for the mundane. My only concern is what to do with my current venture.... I say get old and love doing it. | |

Wow, very deep question. I am currently 31 and have 3 kids so life is pretty busy for me. I would say the answer for me is...both. I'm not really complaining, but currently I don't have a lot of personal time/freedom, and I do have a lot of responsibility. So, in that fashion, I would say I feel a little unhappy at times. On the flip side, however, I love my kids and have a great time with them. Even with all the challenges, they are a lot of fun and make me very happy. Besides all that, I'm finally starting to figure things out now. I am not in a good position or a bad position in my life, just a comfortable position, and that makes me happy. |

When you get older, your happiness is more categorized as"matured happiness" because your happiness came from the things you accomplished, goals reached, people's touched.I think that kind of happiness quite differ when you are young-happy with a new cellphone, new clothes, new car, new stuff, new GF/BF,,,more of a material things. When you get older you experience "inner and deeper happiness".

I had a time when I was happy, then came a car crash and made me very unhappy, then came a time of reflection and made my wonder, at last here is a time of solid wisdom that made me fulfilled :-) Yes complex thoughts can be a burdon, but when you get past the vally of shadows, you finally feel complete. Only time, reflection and experience can do this for you! If you don't feel pain or discomfort, why even bohter to grow and find wisdom? |
