Very good points Denise!

I can remember a time when I was not making money and someone saw the amount of PDFs I had and that was really embarrassing.

I told myself whenever I create a product that it will be valuable and will not sit on the shelf with the dustys.

IMHO, People fail because...

1.- They DONT know what they want (they jump from one place to another).

2.- They are LAZY (what??? i have to WORRRRRK AT THIS???)

3.- They dont have a plan (DONT NEEEEED THAT ONE! I´LL REMEMBER IT ALL).

4.- Sum up the above and you get lack of will (why does it ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME???)

You want somethin??? Write down what you want, Find someone that´ll HELP you achieve it, make a plan, take DAILY *CONSISTANT* action...

and never ever quit.

my 2 cents

What a great thread.

If I may add something that might also help. The fundamentals of earning money via marketing on or offline are in principle the same. That is why you will find books from Wallace Wattles, Napoleon Hill and Dale Carnegie still on the most read lists of Dan Kennedy, The late great Gary Halbert, Jay Abraham to name a few.

The protogies of them, Yanik Silver, Joe Polish, The Late Corey Rudhl and many more just take the basics and Jazz it up for the era we are in.

So, As someone said here in this thread, find a coach you resonate with and use their system. Make sure it is exactly what you want, make a plan, take ACTION and stick with it measuring all the time. I used to be an active member here years ago and got lost building my own businesses.

I have returned and was blown away by the expert opinions here. Some fantastic people and advice given. Just absorb the forum but dont read to much and once agian, get a plan and TAKE ACTION every day.

Good luck to you.

Shawn,

you just nailed the point here - consistency is the key to success.
the one example that is ingrained for me was someone explaining the importance of consistency with an example of McD - yep, McDonald's.

The gist of it is this, we all 'opt' for McDonald's even though we know that its 'bland' - but we still opt because we know its going to be the same if you buy in NY or CA.

reason we don't try the 'local' burger joint is we don't know whats its going to taste like, or if it will taste 'similar' the next day.

Moral of the story - you can be hugely successful even you provide 'mediocre' service as long as its consistent.

I don't know if I'd call it failure, maybe "95% lack focus".

You've got to get something done everyday. You've got to make *some* progress.

You should start with small steps. Look at the 5 star books on amazon in marketing/sales. The reviews do the work for you. Get introduced to authors, read them, get familiar.

Reading something once and expecting to make money is crazy. Lack of repetition is something I see a lot of online. How many threads do you see..."the 8th time I read Scientific Advertising, this thought came out". Or the 5th time I listened to Dan Kennedy, Gary Halbert, etc...boy I had this revelation. It's going to help me fill this piece of the puzzle.

A quote by someone (Halbert?), more is accomplished through movement than through meditation. The 95% that "fail"...too much meditation?

And you actually have to do real work.

If you wrote down what you accomplished each day, each week. And were specific. I think you could be very successful in 4 months, 6 months, 2 years. But you've got to get specific things done and make gains.

Ahhhhh, serious words of wisdom JohnB23.

I can remember when I was still going around in circles...I had all these products coming in my emails, all these tips, all the PDFs I had already bought...putting in crazy hours...and my significant other was like..."Ok, whats the problem then?" lol.

Then I asked myself..that same question. I realized that if I had a problem..then others did too...and I started concentrating on how to help people just get started...put on a set of blinders to the distractions of the Launch of the Century, and start making SOME money....not $1000 day...just SOME money....once you do that consistently by finding out the problems people are having and helping them solve them...it just gets easier and easier.

I have a different pair of eyes now..I can see opportunities that I could not before.

I think it's fairly easy, at least relative to other jobs that pay less and are more stressful (say, dealing with the public everyday working retail or something).

The key is, you just have to make some sort of gain or distinction, or advancement everyday, every few days. Nothing will happen without discipline.

This could not be further from the truth. Nowadays, it's really too confusing to make money online because of information overload. New people just don't know where to start and not focus long enough on what they should do.

In my opinion, they just expect success to fall in their lap.

Which, of course they've learned by reading the titles to WSO's :-) They read one, realize the secret to success falling in their lap isn't in that one, so they read another one that promises the world to them....and again, the secret to easy bucks isn't in there..and on and on and on.

But, by golly, every one of those WSO's says they have the secret! And that secret's gotta be in there somewhere because they all say it exists!

Here's the secret: Pick one & get your butt to work.

I hear that, The secret is, There is no secret. You have to take action and focus. Stick to one thing and complete it. Most people are not patient enough or focused enough to do that. I know! I was one of those people. You have to start thinking as a marketer and not a customer. Darn those sales letters, Sometimes you just can't resist.

Height of Inspiration or Depths of Desperation?

It’s funny how I can find the money and the resources for the
things that I ‘have to’ do. The car transmission fails and
suddenly my brain goes into overdrive to solve this pressing
problem and get my vehicle back on the road.

The rent is due and the thought of being homeless during the
winter forms new neuron pathways between my left and right brain.
I find myself battling a sickness, and suddenly life’s priorities
shuffle themselves into the correct order. Time spent with the
family seems more pressing than the business meeting that was so
critical. In fact, when I’m sick the only thought that dominates
my mind is to regain my health. What motivates you?

On opposite ends of the spectrum of human motivation are
inspiration and desperation. The reasons that drive you to act
can be found somewhere along that continuum. I know that many
noble feats have been accomplished through love for another
person, but this can be classed as inspiration. Love for the
object inspired the lover to perform acts that would be hard to
explain otherwise.

I must confess that I am closer to the ‘desperation’ end of the
spectrum than the ‘inspiration’ end. I am a deadline type of guy.
While in school, I always procrastinated until I just had to
write that term paper, study for that test or-you may smile-pay
for the tuition. It seemed the idea that there was no way out
placed my brains on steroids. I happen to know many colleagues
who operate on a similar principle. At the same time, there were
many students who just had to get the paper completed a long time
before the deadline.

Inspiration would appear to be a much nobler motivator than
desperation. Yet, it has always been said that necessity is the
mother of invention. Necessity is closer akin to desperation than
inspiration. It is often true that desperation can lead to
inspiration but seldom the other way around. There are countless
inventions which came about to solve a pressing problem compared
to those made for just a luxurious use.

Those who study direct response marketing tell us that buyers
respond more to avoid pain than to gain pleasure. In other words,
Mr. Jones is more likely to buy the central air cooling system
because it saves him money, than for the reason that it keeps him
cool in the summer. Statistics also shows that the vast majority
of those who inherit large sums of money, either through family
or the lottery, end up losing their wealth or in some instances
their minds.

This reminds me of the old adage: ‘Easy come, easy go’. There are
many parents who have passed on a legacy of wealth, and hence
laziness, to their posterity.

The critical point for the home business owner is motivation. You
can no longer lose your job because you are late, tardy; hate the
boss, disliked by fellow-workers and a myriad of other reasons.
Now you are the boss and have less to fear outside of failing
yourself! Your motivation must now be intrinsic, and you have
less people to blame for all your failures.

Although many tout the superior benefits of owning a home
business, the harsh reality of finding that motivation to get out
of bed when there are no traffic jams to beat leaves countless
paralyzed.

My advice? ‘Know thyself’! Know what makes you tick and ‘trick’
yourself into that frame of mind. There are many motivational
speakers who teach that you should write out your goals and even
place a picture of your dream home next to your workplace. Even
though this may work for some-and it doesn’t for me-, I think
that contemplating the results for failure can awake many giant
ideas.

If you are on the inspiration end of the spectrum then listening
to motivational tapes and reading the stories of those who
overcame great odds, may just be the medicine for your soul.

Do you love being healthy or hate being sick? Do you love having
money or hate being broke? Do you love being with your spouse or
hate being away? Do you love being independent or hate being
bossed around? Do you love happiness or hate being sad? These
questions may all seem to be two faces of the same coin but very
different faces.

You may be like George Bernard Shaw who said, “You see things;
and you say ‘Why?’; But I dream things that never were; and I say
‘Why not?’ Or, you may identify closer with Dwight D. Eisenhower
who said, “What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in
the fight - it’s the size of the fight in the dog”.

You may be the dreamer or the dog engaged in mortal combat. What
counts most is to know who you are, and light the appropriate
burner on your motivational stove.

Really? Thanks for the encouragement. I am new to this stuff but i am enjoying it so far. Though there are times that you should go back to be a student for you have to study your articles and stuffs. Most importantly in online jobs you just have to have patience and self discipline that's all it takes.

it's funny i was reading someting the other day about anti-motivators for weight loss. Same thing can be applied here: For every $xxx you don't earn this month you'll have to donate $xx to the george w. bush presidential library..or the clinton prez library..whatever your choice. Anti-motivators! They can get you moving!

I think the main problem is the info overload. Even when you find someone who tells you to stick with one thing, they try to upsell you with something else that just distracts you once again.

right on.

I think if most if you are completely new and signup and learn from the many free giveaways - you have enough knowledge to go on and actually build a site and promote it.
Problem is in our drive to learn more - we just end up spending more time on web searching and 'researching' when in reality you should 'applying' what you already know.

I agree that most people fail in their online ventures because they do not have the patience to continue, most people make peanuts in the first 6-12 months they are trying unless they got a really good tutor.

For me online marketing was trial and error and I built up my own systems and made my own setup that works well for me. But it has been a lot of work to get to where I am now

I was reading about a program a major corporation experimented with where they paid employees to quit smoking...it actually had a high success rate.

Now this was to do something that these people knew darn well they should do anyway. Oh well...I think that just shows how the dangling carrot still works everytime, even if it's a dangling dollar. It was win win....the company in the end has fewer health claims, the employees are healthier..and richer too.

Don't forget to reward yourself at every small accomplishment on your way to completing your ultimate goal.

Go ahead and slap a picture of that Boat you always wanted to your computer screen. What ever it takes to keep you laser targeted.

I agree with this totally. You have to have hunger for knowledge and keep pushing through the tough times. It is just like school. You don't graduate just for attending school. You graduate when you put forth the effort and provide the proof that you have gained the appropriate amount of knowledge to move on to the next part of life.

  • Go through the learning curve (esp. newbies)
  • Gain new skills such as online marketing on the Internet
  • Get good training
  • Find a mentor
  • Create your own mastermind group
  • 3 Ps (patience, perseverance, persistence)
  • Strong work ethic
  • Find out what strategy or strategies work for you to test, track and repeat
  • Stay put in one company for long term (unless it is a scam or will go out of business due to bankruptcy so be careful what company you join)

Another element to consider is MINDSET. It's very important to maintain optimism, especially when things are going rough. Your mindset will help you immensely when tough decisions or situations arise.

So how do you develop a better mindset? Constantly be aware of your thoughts. I've heard it be referred to as 'meta cognition' before. When you are able to connect the dots between your thought patterns, not only will you be able to realize them and improve them, but also learn a lot about yourself! It's truly incredible.

What three principles should we all try to aim for?
1. Think GOOD thoughts
2. Speak GOOD words
3. Do GOOD things

The principles above will bring you so many different kinds of success; emotional, financial, and health wellness.

Yours in true success,

Freddy

Great posts here! Thanks for opening the thread!

What I find is the greatest cause of Failure is "distraction."
The "Power of Persistance" is a lost understanding, when we allow Our Plan to be distracted by the next "shiny object" that comes our way...

the shiniest object of all is our-Self and what we are able to "wax-on and wax-off" with Persistance upon One Plan for long enough to see our Definite Desire Fullfilled. We must know what that Definite Major Purpose is...said Napoleon Hill.

Not much has really changed in the world since the Great Depression of the 30's ...except for many, many, many more distractions.

Beware Distractions!

The majority of why those online fail is what you said, they give up too soon, AND fail to learn from their mistakes.

Another reason is they spend too much time learning and not enough time doing.

I'm not looking to be a millionaire (though it would be nice), I just want to make an honest living online, and I'll do anything, seems like there's a pleathora of ways to make money, but again, I'm a noob, have no idea where to start and no idea which way is the best way...
Just keep visiting the forum, apart from anything you do in terms of reading and researching. I started working actively on exactly the 30th Dec. 2008. I have learnt so much, free of course. Information overload may be bad they say, but for me, i find it beneficial. Why i say this is because after going round in circles, trust me, i was learning along the way.
Just read and read and research. You may think its way above your head, but it will not be. Your subconcious soaks it up. This forum is absolutely great for info.
THE FINAL MOST IMPORTANT PART, fixing together the pieces of the puzzle so as to get a move on.
You then need a "hold my hand and guide me along" so i can start work.
Good news, there are members on this forum who can now lead you step-by-step along the way. You start of your own site, you are on your way to generate 'you know what'. And it will in many cases cost you 'a song'.

Whatever you read, learn or even stumble accross will never come to waste.
Be determined. Thats all.
Good luck and GodBless.

I think people don't have enough patience on internet. Internet business is like any other business. You can make fast money but it's not usually that way. You have to wait, keep, experimenting and keep learning to really succeed.

Hi

I agree with that ... and would like to throw in my tuppence-worth if I may!

Making money online also has to do with choosing ONE blueprint and sticking to it! Frank Kern has a great one, but so does Derek Gehl and so does Mike Filsaime ... etc. etc.

What this boils down to ultimately is believing in your SELF because, sure you want to - and you should - follow and emulate, (not copy), someone else's success, but believe you can do it in your own niche and your own STYLE too! Some day, someone will be asking you how you made it big!

Don't get distracted by all those who try to tell you that without their latest widget or piece of knowledge you're sunk. People are still people, and on the net they're just window shopping, same as they always have. When they see something they like, they'll buy it. You don't need every gizmo under the sun to achieve that. You need to value yourself, then you'll value what you create or sell!

One more thought: don't just chase the money! Sell a product you love to a market you respect. That way, you'll treat your clients like your mates, and they'll keep coming back for more ... and more ... and more!

(Got a lot for tuppence, didn't I?)

Good luck!
Trev.

Such Excellent advice! its too easy to jump into everything and anything when you are new to the online business world....I know I've been there myself. Money back guarantee is a huge priority because at least you know that if you give it your all and dont succeed with the methods provided then you can get your money back.

Sometimes we all have to go through trial and error until we find good solid materials and mentorship to guide us on the right path. Armed with the knowledge and mindset + time tested proven techniques to make money online anyone can be successful.

I am so grateful that I have been through this process and have recently found everything I was looking for...

Have a great day....

Cool! Those things are exactly what I am doing now! I have put together what I call a 'Weekly Marketing Schedule' which I apply weekly. Then, I most of all pray that I continue to be successful and I have gotten some success. You see, when you are a first-time internet marketer, you will make some falls, but this is only tests and you are also learning at the same time. I have been through it even when I used to join so many programs w/o support. Another thing to NEVER EVER do is procrastinate! This was something I used to do. That's why we all need guidance. We can't do it all by ourselves. We need to seek our Father that can help us choose the right program to promote. Have a great weekend guys and hope that each and one of you can take this by heart.

Thanks for sharing this information.

It's a little frustrating getting started in the Internet marketing arena. However, anyone in business today, that wants to remain in a profitable business, MUST learn how to navigate in the Internet/on-line arena. It is no longer an option it's absolutely essential.

From my understanding, Bayo is suggesting us to start with the basics - that is, building small successes one at a time.

In fact, that's what Earl Nightingale proposes as well - to build daily successes every single day, and that in the long term, we would achieve major successes.

Default Re: Why 95% of people fail online!

The 9 Major Reasons Why People Fail Online Or In Life

1. Lack of a Positive and Well Defined Purpose for Your
Goal.

Success will elude all who do not have a high primary purpose,
idea or goal at which to aim. With evaluation and desire,
you'll arrive at a decision knowing exactly what that goal is or
isn't. Lacking a fixed goal is one of the major causes in over
90% of all failures.

2. Disregard For Self-Discipline.

Self control of thoughts, actions and desires is achieved by
accepting always, only positive mental patterns and dispelling
all negative influences.

3. Practicing Procrastination.

Allowing yourself to put off and wait for when the time is right
to begin, continue or finish fulfilling your goal. By beginning
and continuing on you'll fully realize that the right time is
now. Avoid the habit and apply your ability and experience to
accomplish it now.

4. Having a Negative Personality.

All hope is lost when a person wanting success continuously
turns people away by saying, doing or thinking contrary to
cooperative behavior. Success is achieved when
co-operating with others and in return receiving co-operative
attitudes. A win-win situation!

5. Wanting Something for Nothing.

Crooks, gamblers, cheats, scammers, intimidators and plain
dishonesty have affected many people who have, are or will
become victims of the "something for nothing" instinct of real
losers. The title should read "Work and Do Something Good and
Be a Winner".

6. Not Understanding the Strength of Decision Making.

Efficiency, productivity, co-operation, profits, growth, trust,
respect, etc. is a direct result of successful people who are
able to make the right decisions quickly when the opportunity
presents itself or change a decision, if at all necessary,
slowly and cautiously. The opposite of that, failure, is a
result of people who are slow to reach decisions, if they can at
all, or who more often quickly change decisions. Indecisions
and waiting for the right time go hand in hand. Make a decision
now, stick to it.

7. Being Over Cautious.

Don't let over-caution deprive you of making the right move at
the right time. Do not hold back on making decisions. After a
period of evaluation of your project's direction, value,
resources, potential, costs, finances, and the demand, you can
make a wise decision. When you decide that any or all of these
considerations will benefit you and your goal, that it has a
lot of merit, then you must make a positive forward decision.

8. No Concentration of Effort.

Always concentrate on every aspect of your goal. It
breeds desire, knowledge, familiarity and results. Avoid
straying into an unrelated direction, creating distractions that
break the momentum of continuity. Concentration will reward you
with quicker completion and positive results.

9. Not Being Persistent About Persistence.

Quitting too early and not having the resolve to persist if and
when confronted with a tough break, Murphy's Law, or
an uncontrollable circumstance is a major cause of failure.
