Default Are you a multitasker?

For the majority of us out in the real world it is almost impossible to not be a multitasker.

Were constantly getting phone calls sending texts, checking our emails, trying to find time to stop and eat something all while driving to our
next appointment.

And even though we are moving at a million miles a minute, at the end of the day we find that we still were unable to really get anything done. You see multitasking actually lowers our ability to really focus on the tasks we need to accomplish.

A case study showed that on average it takes a person 20 minutes after being distracted to regain the stat of mind they were in before being distracted....

now if it takes you 20 mins to get back into your grove after being distracted,

how are you possibly going to achieve any results with your work if you are
checking emails and answering calls or in the process of cooking dinner leaving your task at hand every 5 mins.

You can see how getting any real work done is practically impossible! and that is why we need to learn how to better manage ourselves before we can begin to better manage our time to see true progress and in turn achieve the success we all desire.

So first things first we must all find a way to stop multitasking and focus in on one task at a time. this means stop randomly checking in on your emails, stop looking at your phone to see who just texted you,

wait until your finished with your daily tasks before you sign on to aim to talk with your friends.

This will allow you to focus all your mental energy in a more positive and
productive manner, or otherwise know as getting into your groove.

If you want to start seeing results with your online business then you need ot first set aside any and all tasks that dont generate results for after your done performing the tasks that do! and by results im talking about generating leads and converting those leads.

now if your not to the point in your business that you are ready to start generating leads then you want to focus your energy on getting to this point and as soon as possible.

so unless your checking your email to receive your next training lesson on building you capture pages, or creating devastating web copy. chances are you prob shouldn't be in your email.

Dedicate 2 hours of completely uninhibited time to completing each task. and be sure to rest after you have finished with a daily task. take 20 mins or so to relax, make something to eat or listen to some music. as long as it doesn't involve more work.

Remember when you work for yourself there is no boss to stand over your shoulder making sure that your spending your time productively. It really easy for our minds to get off track.

You need to take control and make sure that every minute you spend
working is productive and is spent on tasks that will generate you results.

Ie. SALES!!!!!!!

best of luck to all of us this new year!!

Phil

Most people are out there asking how many people can i get into my business, When what they should be asking is how many people can i help with my business.
Success is a state of mind.... Whats your mindset?

No. I used to multitask and then i realized i do nothing 1000% well when I do that.

so i reserve blocks of time, and focus on ONE thing.

Get much more done by the end of the day.

I used to pride myself in being a multi-tasker, but it did pay it's toll.

Now I attempt to finish one thing before starting another. It gets done more thorough and sooner.

I put priority on the things needing done too. This helps.

When I start to get burned out on a project, I stop. Later I will pick up where I left off and it seems the "rest" helped me "regroup" and I get the project done in no time at all!

I multi-task when doing chores at home. But work-wise, I'd rather not. If the task requires a lot of brainwork, I don't think multi-tasking is the way to go.

I'm cutting down on multi-tasking now. It's literally draining and I'm not happy with the quality of my work when I multi-task too much.

I think modern day society requires us to be multi-taskers.
Multi-tasking is praised and taught and focus get's almost conditioned out of us...whaaat??!!!

I am much more productive and effective when I am single focused. One thing at a time, then move on. Don't always do it, though.

Focus is a good thing

Where ever did you find that study?

Hello all, firstly, I would like to say a big THANK YOU for sharing your views in this Post, it is so awesome to see many come out with different view points

I suppose when come to Single Tasking or Multi-Tasking, it depends on individual case, eg. either you are doing prepartion for a big negotiation in Business Deal, or your are taking care of your babies, or studying for exams, watching movies, etc....

Sometimes, one can do 2 different things at once, but sometimes, you can only do one thing at once. This also come back to individual, some people are really good in multi-tasking and can achieve wonderful outsomes, and some people are really single minded and can only do one task excellently at each time. hhm... may be there is no right or wrong, ie. a Grey Area???

There is a 80/20 Rule, If there are many tasks waiting for you to complete at certain period of time, then list out all the tasks that you need to do, list them according to importance and urgency.
Ask yourself, if you are going to spend time and effort to complete just one task, which One is the best one where when you complete it, it can contribute to your success? Then, you will figure out which one you should pour your heart and soul in completing it, am I right?

There might not be a right or wrong answer, it comes back to Individual and the Task itself?
Most important thing is make sure you organise yourself and complete the tasks in an excellent manner, right?

Once again, thanks for sharing

I wish you all All The Best and keep in touch closely!

To Your Success,
Grace Jen

Now! That is funny and sad at the same time. It's funny as heck thinking that people who are stoned are more productive. And sad to think people who are sober, but multitasking are not very productive.

Wow! I need to think more about what I'm doing, and really concentrate on doing that one thing at a time.

Sincerely,
Terry

Thanks Jen. You have some very interesting points. My wife and I were just talking about multitasking, and then I come here and find your post.

I believe I am going to have to start keeping a list of things to do. I will rank each task based on the importance of what I want to accomplish. When new things pop-up, I will have to add them to the list of things to do. And when I finish that one item, look at the list to find the next important thing that I want to accomplish.

Thank you for your points. Of course, multi-tasking is going to be dependent on the individual, but for me I'm going to try and stick to one thing at a time. That is TRY. It will be a learning curve for me.

Sincerely,
Terry

G'day Terry, thanks for replying

I am so glad to hear that you find "answer" to your Question, this is very interesting learning experience, right?
Seems like Law of Attraction working perfectly well in this case, ie. Whatever you think will attract to you

Yes Terry, I totally agreed with what you say, it is a learning curve. I suppose we all are Student of Life. everyday, every minute, we are learning. With continous learning, we can improve and become a better person, am I right?

Folks, I am excited to networking with you all more closely.
I am absolutely passionate in sharing my knowledge, my skill & my precious experience with others, there is no point to keep it secret, right?

I wish you all All The Best in everything you do.

Have an amazing day

Warmest Wishes,
Grace Jen

Yes I am a multitasker. And I feel anyone can be multitasker only few things he has to keep in his mind like always on alert, trying to fit as much into his day as possible. As you all know our brain is just like an computer, and multitasking is the switching one mode from another or you can say running different things simultaneously. We need to improve our observation power so that we can do all the task successfully.

Best wishes

I agree!

I would consider myself good at multi-tasking, but also would consider myself with an ever growing to-do-list!

So with that said, It's best to focus one task at a time until full completion of that task.

In addition, time seems to escape you while multitasking, and although tasks get somewhat finished... they never seem to get done completely and/or efficiently!

Just my thoughts...

I am a reformed multitasker.

I read a couple of books like getting things done and the power of full
engagement and realized how much this habit was costing me.

Now I just concentrate on one task at a time. Instead of multitasking,
why not outsource?

I tried to convince my last boss the benefits of focus in regards to relatively error-free productivity. Multi-tasking was his mantra.

Multi-tasking has its place, no doubt. Like talking on the phone while doing dishes.

Yoda was right,

"There is no try, only do."

Or something like that.

And that boss was my last...hallelujah!

For me I'm a "grouper" more than a "multi-tasker"

What I mean by a grouper is that I group like task together and complete them during a set amount of time.

I use 1 hour per day checking email, bank accounts, ensuring websites are working right and answering questions. All these require similar mental strain (or lack-of) and I find it easy to do them all at once instead of spending wasted time "setting up."

I hate wasted time; and between checking adsense, clickbank, adwords, e-junkie and so on, it takes "set up" time. I just do all these type of things at the same time.

Same thing for groceries/laundry/errands. All at once for the next week or two.

I find that checking email more than once a day is a waste of time and ends up taking up to an hour a day cumulative time and nothing serious ever comes through email that can't wait till the next afternoon (and if It does I'll get a call).

I find multi tasking important but also think it's pointless if everything you do is lacking, so by grouping I am mentally prepared for all level of task.
