Hi I tend to get carried away with all the"new offers" I get in my mailbox. Before I know it, I'm reading up and following two three links, wasting time, time I should have used making money! I'm curious on how everyone else is dealing with it? Regards Johan |

I used to have this problem a while back. I got tired of wasting hours on the net with nothing to show for it. Until you yourself understand that time is money, and because of that you shouldn't be wasting time, then you will keep doing the same thing over and over again. A few things that will help: - Have a clean work area. Look around you, throw out everything that can be a distraction to you or put it elsewhere. - Organize all your files, clean your room. This should give you some sort of self accomplishment. - Make it so that you have a room for yourself dedicated to online business ventures. - After that's done, dig into your computer. Clean all the junk laying around. Make two points. First: Throw away everything that you haven't touched for 1 year. Put in your mind that if you haven't used it until now, you never will. Stop saying "maybe"... Just dump them into the recycle bin. Second: Organize all your folders. If you have ventures that are running, ventures that you look forward to running, put them all in individual folders. Label them. And place them on your desktop. And organize all the guides you have bought, put them into folders. "informative guides" "money making guides", etc..... After you have organized everything. Sit down, and brainstorm. Jot down your ideas, your goals for ventures you want to run in the future. Get into the habit of placing small goals in front of yourself. There is a difference if you say, "I'm going to create a website header design today" and if you say "I'm going to setup a website and start marketing it and bring in $100/day" --- Placing smaller, more achievable goals in front of yourself, will help you focus and get things done faster. Make a to-do-list if needed. And if you need. Go an download a "TIME IS MONEY" background pic for your desktop background. You will see it every time your on your desktop or laptop :-) Hope this info helps. |

I always end up off topic when I'm doing research...will find something that looks interesting and decide to check into it..then that reminds me of something else I wanted to look up...which then usually presents something else that looks interesting..and so on and so forth...speaking of brb...off to look up something you just reminded me of |

All good points. I often found myself getting distracted by others. My GF is notorious for asking me to do things even when she sees me trying to get stuff done. It took some time, but I just had to put my foot down and say "no" and that I was working. If that doesn't work, I schedule my working activities for when she is not here. This way I can have peace and quiet to get work done. At one time I was about to rent an office simply to avoid all of the interruptions. |

Unfortunately I also find it difficult at times to focus. Email is a big distractor as I am always getting some new "can't miss" offer that promises to "reveal all the secrets" to making money online. Add to that the mailing lists and private emails that I receive daily and I can find myself running off on tangents that can deplete hours of my day. Even knowing the acronym for focus has not seemed to help much: Follow One Course Until Successful. Maybe the secret is in finding the right one course to follow.

It's nice to see I'm not the only one who is easily distracted, sometimes I get so frustrated with myself for wasting hours upon hours clicking those links only to end up with information overload.

It's all about focus in order to get results, but the most difficult thing is not actually getting the work done but defining which work you actually need to do to ensure you are working towards your goals. When you find yourself getting distracted perhaps trigger your mind to ask the question, is this taking me closer to OR further from my goal?

Yes, I am easily distracted my some of my favorite sites, I tend to open them firstn as soon as I am on hold with my computer. I am not aware that I am wasting at least 1 to 2 hours of my time, but i am really trying to be more focus with my work and my time to finish my assignments on time.

Hey, I just remembered I've actually written a blog post about this where I've listed down 5 practical actions steps: 1. Get Post-It! notes or 3 x 5 index cards 2. List down all your objectives to be met or all your tasks to be completed 3. Set a time-frame for each of the tasks to be completed 4. Keep the notes or card in your view ALWAYS 5. Constantly check back at the note/card and make sure that you are doing activities that are truly necessary for you to complete the tasks |

Hey Johan It seems you are getting frustrated when you pursue many offers but find that you have wasted time and scattered your energy. Also, it sounds like you want to change how you approach this and that your current work is not satisfying for you. You obviously have enthusiasm for making money and that you want to do this in a way that is productive and focused. As for your enquiry as to how others deal with this, I would like to suggest that others' methods may not be right for you. Here are some points to consider: What is it you really want? Are you clear about this? Have you written these goals down? What kind of work opportunities will help you achieve these? Ideally, how do you want to be working? What field do you want to be working in? If your ideal opportunity came along, what would it be? By going back to basics and focusing on what you really want, you will find you are more focused on what opportunities to look out for. You will choose opportunities that are aligned to your goals. Therefore your time will be better used and you will get less distracted and feel less frustrated. With care |

Case in point, I do a lot of articles in the pet health niche. But my girlfriend likes to watch all the dog related shows, like Animal Vet Er Stories and stuff. Which makes it tough to write about keeping pets healthy when their showing vets caring for the cutest puppies. Just have to watch it. So I no longer try to get work done at the time she is watching tv. I just rearranged my schedule to watch with her for an hour a night, then do work as she goes to bed by 8pm (4 am wake-up).

There will always be offers, I look at them on the weekend, with my wallet hidden.... Try this for a week: Take a sheet of paper and as you notice the things that are distracting you, write them down. If they are important and really do need to get done, can you delegate them, could a part time virtual assistant sort through the mail and only forward what you really should look at... no offers! If they are distractions you enjoy, but keep you from being productive, find a "slow" time and do them then. You can get a feel of your most productive times, and focus your solid money making work around those times, push the other stuff off. Hope that helps. |

I get really distracted..but I have been working on it. I read a blog post from Eben Pagan once, and he referenced a study that Timothy Ferris had talked about that showed that multitasking effects your brain more than smoking marijuana. I don't have a link unfortunately, but if you are familiar with either Ferris or Pagan you have probably heard that. Actually Ferris is a good guy to start with if you are looking at things like gettin rid of distractions. I don't know if I can post links but if you google "Timothy Ferriss check email". You will get some good info. I now check my email three times a day - no more often. Offers, newsletters and Sales Pitches are instantly put in an email folder that I can read in my free time. friends and familys well wishes, fwd's and etc... are put into another folder. I only respond to pressing business needs when I do my 3 email checks in business hours. Ferriss talks about checking email 2x a day and even once every ten days. I am certainly not at that point LOL |

| I know this sounds "dorky," but I put a timer next to my computer. Started out at 60 minutes, if I found myself surfing or looking at spam mails- I would look over at the timer and see how much I've wasted... |

I get distracted with all of those e-mail offers too. What I do is just unsubscribe from them if I don't really need it.

If I'm learning something or wanting to accomplish something I tend to want to absorb, and do it all at once with the predictable result is that I get overwhemled and immobolized. So I have stopped thinking about a project as a whole and rather as what's the next step I need to do and I stay with that next step until I've done it and then I take on the following step.

![]() Glad to know that I'm not the only one suffering with the problem of distraction and I have to admit that sometimes the distractions are self-induced. In other words I'm going along, I'm concentrated, focused, and than something will pop into mind like a phone call I should make, mail I haven't checked, or maybe that I need a snack, or take a break and check a forum, and there *poof* the focus is gone and I have to battle to get back to it. It's very self-defeating behavior.

The internet can be a very distracting place. Especially if you're an "information junkie" like me. The best way to deal with it is just to structure your time online into "work time" and "random web surfing time". Commit that when it's work time, you ONLY work, even if you have to close your email and any other applications on your computer that aren't 100% necessary for the project you're working on. That means being able to say NO, no matter how enticing the background noise may be. Then during random web surfing time, you can check out whatever other stuff you missed, which generally wasn't anything that important anyway. |

| UNSUBSCRIBE from most of your email subscriptions. Think seriously about whether you need more information or more time to take action on the information you already have and if the answer is more time, then UNSUBSCRIBE. Not only is the temptation not there to go read about the latest. You don't even have to empty the junk out of your Inbox. |

I can say that I am not distracted with lots of e-mail offering me to join their sites. I just directly delete it and go directly on my own site or which I mean the site I love and known. By means of focusing your mind in one site you will never be distracted. So, I say be focused on one thing.

Here is my opinion: Getting work done is all about being in the right state of mind. It doesn't matter if you have a clean desk, or a quiet space, etc ... UNLESS you are actually in the right frame of mind to do work. How I created this frame of mind: I used self hypnosis and NLP to anchor the right state of mind to a certain key phrase. When I say the phrase it fires off the anchor and I'm in state to do whatever I need in a brilliant way. The CDs where I learned this are online now. See my WSO. I run the website selling them. |

You just need to find a way to tune everything but your work out... The strategy is different for everyone. I personally find that I am LESS likely to get distracted if I have my headphones on listening to music or the TV tuned to a movie I've seen a billion times. I just NEED the background noise... it keeps me centered and focused. |

Yes, sometimes it is hard as you want to learn and absorb as much as you can. The best is to follow some program and learn the basic. After that you will be able to tell the different between a good system and a bad one. Cheers ... Pwety |

How I deal with it is easy.. Opt out from those emails that are just junk sale letters rather than good advice. I was like you at one point, but I just opted out, & I'm happier with the less time on email & flashy objects.

Flash objects are bad. So just stick to one thing you think that's even working, milk it, market the hell out of it until you are making sales before returning to any flashy object that will help you improve your sales.
