Have you ever intentionally eliminated your alternatives?

Have you ever intentionally eliminated ineffective alternatives? For example, a crazy idea rose up in my head - to put almost all my money in a 6-month bank deposit, so that I must earn money, or I'll be homeless. This way I'll definitely cope with the procrastination. Have you thought of/done something similar?

Some of the great leaders used this strategy, they would burn all of their bridges so that there would be no coming back. It is definitely a powerful strategy but you have to fully believe in it to succeed.

    Well, Christian!

I guess most of us live with a certain alternatives and if one goes good we forget about the rest. I started blogging only after I quit my full-time job. I would think of doing it on weekends/in free time. But months passed by and nothing significant was achieved. Finally, I quit my job and started learning web technologies so that I could learn and develop my own theme. A year passed by and I managed to launch two blogs. It's been more than two years now and I'm going good.

My colleagues certainly make more than I do but I can see that something meaningful is happening and growing.
And you are right, this is the best way to deal with procrastination

Thanks for the answers. It seems that this kind of motivation boosting isn't so bizarre. Does this thing have 'official' name? I want to read more about it and to find ideas other than the bank deposit. But if I don't, I'm going to the bank on Friday. The money I'll have after that will be enough for 3 months and during this period I must earn money for the next 3 months, or else... I don't want to think about it.

    Yeah ,for only once .
But not benefited ,I had to change my rule and once again I thought from the level zero.
But now I don't do it.
And do not start anything without clear thinking.

30 minutes ago, I signed the contract for the deposit. All the remaining money I have is on the table, in front of me. I didn't expect the effect to come up so quickly. When I see the few bills I have for the next 6 months, my motivation goes through the roof! That's why I'll leave the money on the table, just to remind me what the real situation is. Good bye, I'm going to do some link building!

burn the bridges and get to work. Or place the idea in your mind that someone has a gun to your head and if you don't do something that will further your online success then he is pulling the trigger.

Works every time I do it.

I have done similar things in the past. But I have realized that it never really benefits you in the end. When you create alternatives or plan Bs, you automatically set yourself short. You unconsciously limit yourself and simply just prepare for failure. I believe that there should never be backup plans, if you really want something, you will find anyway possible to make things work out and get what you want. First, you have to feel you deserve what you want!

I just wanted to post a quick update. Everything is going very well. For the past 2 weeks, I've been working my ass off. I've been highly engaged in IM. I've outsourced the writings, so all I've done has been plain marketing. I've as well studied intensively for the university at which I'm a student. Although I sleep 11 hours a day because of the amount of work my brain deals with, all this action makes me feel very proud of myself. It's an amazing feeling. Plus, I actually kinda like digging into IM stuff. I would never find that out if I didn't take action. I forgot to say that my university is specialized in Economics, so I have access to a huge amount of literature on Economics, including many, many books on Marketing. I'm reading Philip Kotler's "Marketing Management" right now.

2 days ago, I got my first sale; a few minutes ago, I got my second one. I didn't expect sales so early. Before these sales, my motivation was pretty high; after them, it went through all 11 floors above my apartment and through the roof of the building. I'm very confident for the future.

I highly recommend gaining initial motivation via bridge cutting.

P.S. PPC, I'm coming for you!

Burning bridges has worked very well for me, but that also has a lot to do with my personality. I thrive on adventure and risk. I invite resistance and step into it. Other people would do better when they have a safety net. Just depends on whether your leading need is adventure or security.

You sleep eleven hours a day because of "the amount of work your brain deals with." Say what??

Regardless, I did something similar to get my ass in gear, and it's working, but slowly. My indifference is long rooted in my values(HORRIBLE). I remember deciding that I wouldn't go to college in SIXTH grade, it was/is honestly that bad. But I'm truly putting forth an effort every day now, and am gonna make myself keep going and keep the faith.

I believe you've got the drive to make it happen, and really want to see you succeed. Good luck, and work hard on your dreams.

I'm studying Accountancy. Generally, it's an interesting discipline, but a big part of it is consisted of Law. In my case, studying Law requires a lot of concentration (so that I could continue reading this boring matter). This concentration wears my brain off. Plus, haven't you heard that during the sleep, the brain processes information? The more information we soak during a particular day, the more our brains have to process. Also, I like to sleep a little more.

Compared to Law, IM is all rainbows and butterflies. That's one of the things that make me carry on. Prior to the university, I thought that IM was boring. The Law, however, changed my definition for boring.

Thanks for your input. I was going to say "Good luck with your stuff", but then I realized that luck isn't involved. So, good... work?

Great motivation experiment and progress, iChristian!

Have you always slept more than 8 hours a day? Do you take longer than 20 minutes to fall asleep or do you find your mind and worries running on overdrive? Do you sleep soundly or fitfully? Do you wake up clear-headed?

Deep suggestive sleep is a key component of creativity and producitivity, but sadly most of us put it last on our list. . . right next to exercise!

            Cheers,
            Mary Greene
