I read this and wasn't blown away to be honest.

I did take a couple ideas from it - but I didn't really like the tone of the book - there was something that was too "fictional" about it. Like a lot of his anecdotes didn't seem genuine to me.

i did like the message in it though and think it is worth reading - I just wasn't as blown away as other people I have talked to about it.

It is a great book. I had my eyes opened about the difference between working for someone else and working for myself. I chose myself.

It's a good read with some good advice, but almost all books provide the same sort of advice. You know, inspirational.

Robert Kiyosaki (I think that's how you speel his last name - and no I'm not going to double check...) has always been an inspiration to me and his books are extremely helpful and easy to read for everyone and anyone looking ot give a boost to their finalcial education and vocabulary. I like to go back and review all of his books every now and then that I've made a part of my personal library,,,

I liked this book, and found it inspiring. Definately motivated me to try to get out of the rat race, not that I wasn't motivated before.

I read this book when I was around 15 and got really pumped about being rich. It might be the thing that planted a seed in my mind that caused me to drop out of uni several years later, who knows.

His stuff is pretty basic and you'll be left wanting to know more specifics, but if you're new, the stuff he teaches is great. Open your eyes first then go about learning about the specifics later.

A lot of people have a go at Kiyosaki, mostly about his credibility as a businessman/investor (that may or may not be founded in truth), but you can't really knock the concepts he goes on about in his books.

I've got all his books on my bookshelf behind me now

He's a great speaker and I agree that his methods are effective, but I'm wondering if Wayne Dyer is much better. I think that you have to fix your thinking before you can achieve anything if you are interested in retaining your wealth. Look how many successful empires have crumbled to dust over the years. You have to be happy now, then through your actions success is assured.

My experience was similar, yet different. I was also brainwashed into thinking, go to school, get a good job, work hard at 9 to 5, get promotions, save, etc.... And I did get good grades and loved school, though not the 9 to 5 afterwards.

I listened to Rich Dad, Poor Dad originally because he was profiled in a self-publishing magazine, when I was just getting into self-publishing. He was really the first success-oriented and make money through creating a business author that I read. Wow! That completely changed my mindset and started me looking for more authors in this area and my life is so different than it might have been if I hadn't ever read that book.

I can understand though, for some folks who already had heard some of the other classics, like Think and Grow Rich or Tony Robbins or.... there are tons... that if you read Rich Dad, Poor Dad later.... it probably would not be life changing.

A great read, it changed my view on the way that everyone other people live their life.
I started a company, got multiple income streams and live the life that I want, testing idea's and outsource them so that I can focuss on new projects

As for education I still learn a lot by reading books etc. Just learn what you need, not all the things that you learn at school, it's better to know people that are experts in the field and hire them (lawyers for example) nowdays I focuss on a project, learn what is required and then move on to the next project, no 9 till 5 but 6 am till 11 pm, Love what I'm doing

Rich Dad Poor Dad was definitely a great starting point and catalyst into personal development for me. As previously stated by other people here, I was always taught to go to school, get good grades, and try to work for a big corporation who will take care of you.

RDPD taught me that mindset was not the best way to achieve Financial Freedom, and the real differences between how the Rich, Middle Class, and Poor think.

I think I was a bit backwards because "Cashflow Quadrant" was more influential than "Rich Dad."

I read CF because it was recommended, (where else) through an MLM that I was involved in. EXTREMELY powerful...changed my mindset on business forever!

Rich Dad was ok, but I read it about a year after Cash-Flow, so it wasn't nearly as impacting. (impactful? sure...)

Very inspiring. I attended a 3 day seminar. I learned more reading his book and currently applying to my daily life.

That sad part is I used it as a table center piece (it has a beautiful cover) for too many years. Just actually read the book a year ago! I like to call it Divine timing.

I do thank him for sharing what he knows and taking a year off to leave a path/trail for all of us. His actions and life brought him 18 years of life.

Yes more than inspiring it was eye opening on how to be smart money wise.how wrong we were with our money ,out of ignorance we were building our liabilities and weakening our assets. This book educated us about key accounting principles in the laymen's language through various illustrations.
And whatever that book said it never wavered from its key principles that assets should always be more than liabilities.

Keeping a good attitude is like Kudzu, it spreads!

Somewhat unrelated, but it took me ages to get around reading 4 Hour Work Week, because I couldn't get past Tim Ferriss' lie about being a cage fighter.

I'm glad I read it in the end though

I'm a big fan of the Rich Dad, Poor Dad series.

Robert Kiyosaki's practical approach helped me get started as an author myself and I credit him heavily in my first book, Internet Riches.

(You can even see a photo of Robert and I together on the About Us page at my web site!)

You don't hear as much about it, but his "Cashflow Quadrant" book is great, too. It really encouraged me to work toward the building of a "system" instead of just a higher level version of trading dollars for hours. Highly recommended.

I finished it a couple of week ago, and
not only was I inspired, but it made me
take a long hard look at what I'm teaching
my children.

And truthfully, I had never even thought
about investing. It seemed like only the
rich can invest and that I would never
get to that point.

It completely changed my way of thinking
about building assets. It took away my
fear and gave me some confidence.

Now I'm in research mode, learning all
I can so that I can make some smart
moves with the money I have.

Extremely inspiring!

Rich Dad, Poor Dad was one of the most inspiring books on wealth creation and management I've ever read. It created a whole new paradigm for me to look at jobs, money and life.

I agree with many of the criticisms about it being impractical, not entire truthful etc, but the book was hugely impactful (in a positive way) nonetheless.

Definitely one of the best books I've ever read! I really stopped to think about me and my attitudes for a while after I read it and I've got to the conclusion that many answers to what I'd been looking for lied simply on changing my mindset and starting to see the world with different eyes.

I highly recommend this!

I have mixed feeling about RDPD.

It was a good book when I originally read it a few years back and I saw his seminar on TV after that. He got me motivated to not go the 9-5 route for my entire life but as I began to read more books about business and leanr more about the specifics of starting your own business I realized RDPD was a bit generalized. I haven't read any of his work since I finished it years ago but I still have it somewhere in the house.

It's good as a primer and for motivation though.

Its a great book and a great writer but its only inspirational and maybe a little bit motivating but doesnt teach you a whole lot of things you need to succeed with your business..just my personal opinion.. I would rather spend my time reading and learning things that help my business not just inspire me.

I bought this book about a month ago. It took me a week to read it. This book really opened my eyes. I learned that it is not about complaining about what you dont have, but by doing something to get what you want. There were things I didnt know about him as well, such as him being a Marine pilot. He used every job he had in his life to learn skills that would help him be successful.

Rich Dad poor dad was the first book i read in the "business/entrepreneurial" department and it literally convinced me to be an entrepreneur and business owner.

That book definitely changed my mindset and life! I am so glad i read it and thankful for Robert Kiyosaki!

Yes I was pretty inspired by the book.. but I think it's more of a motivational tool than anything.. A pretty good read though..

I believe its a great resource for any business professional. He does a great job of putting it straight and its easy to follow. You are left by the end, re-evaluating how you were personally raised to think.

I also recommend 'The Science of Getting Rich' by Wallace D. Wattles. Now, this book is an instant life-changer.

Enjoy!

For me, this book was a book that changed my life. It was the first book on business and success that I had ever read. It was right after high school and I was thinking that the only way I could make money was from a job. After RDPD I saw that there was another way to make money.

So it changed my life around and pointed me in the direction of being an entrepreneur, not an employee. If I had not read his book I would be getting ready to go to some job right now, not sitting where I am.

I do find that his books are not about business tools, more mind tools. I find reading one does not give me an action to do but more of a direction to move in. That's what I like about his books. Helps me to see my path and how to think, not what to do.

That's a great book. It opens your eyes up to ideas and views you may have never thought of or knew about.

If you read Tim Ferriss' 4 Hour Workweek (I've just started), there is one think better than working for yourself. I found it quite funny, but it's true.

He talks about the "New Rich", and they are different than others, as opposed to "Work for yourself", the New Rich focuses on "Having others working for you".

So old: "Work for yourself"
New: "Have others work for you"

Looking forward to reading more, as it's quite an impressive book about self-realization and enjoying life to it's fullest.

This is VERY TRUE and Very possible.

I read Tim book at the start of 2008 and spend a month in Feb of 2009 in Argentina working the 2 hour work week.

The NEW RICH is a term he refers to and is people who are using resources and talents of technology and outsource to run there business.

One more point. I do not suggest 4 hour work week if its your first personal development book, read Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Because most people will share there head at 4 hour work week (I listen to the audio 3 times in a week at 8 hours each time personally).

Rich Dad Poor Dad will open your eye
4 Hour Work Week will take you from working in your business to on controlling your life.

I thought this was a great book and I really enjoyed the one with Donald Trump. It really gives you a different perception on attitude.

If you want to read books to get inspired or motivated, fine, rad RDPD. If you want to learn about business, don't.

It's an interesting read but its riddled with bad advice, fiction and factual errors.

The fact of the matter is, as his been mentioned, Kiyosaki made his money by teaching people about how he made his money. The guys credibility is thin.

Those books are nice if you're looking for motivational stories. If you want more than motivation though, you'd be far better reading this board and learning from people with real experience in building wealth for themselves, rather than reading the fiction and b.s. in RDPD.
I for one am very thankful for this post and it's pretty sad to see so many people coast past it to give praise to a liar who gives fraudulent advice.

I've had this in e-book format for a year or so but haven't bothered to read it.

I enjoyed Rich Dad, Poor dad and it teaches some terrific principles and is almost a business finance and accounting 101. It went a long way to changing my thinking. Then when I read Four Hour Work Week that took my thought process about life and business to an entirely new level. How to set up your business so you can enjoy life and experience more.
