Default Need Some Direction (please)

So I've been bouncing from thing to thing for a looong time now(2+years).

When I say 'thing to thing' I mean working in the realm of the internet. Seems that I get a great idea, go about taking action on it all the way until I get side tracked with another idea. Then I go back to the previous - or the previous before that... Needless to say I NEVER get anything done (although I did write an ebook on how to succeed at a certain job).

I have 12-15 domains, 1 reseller hosting account at hostnine and 2 other shared accounts overseas, plus many books and ebooks on everything from SEO, wordpress, expressionengine, to PHP, css, and 'real world' marketing. I went to school for graphic/web design, my last job was marketing a nightclub, and I've been a DJ for 15+ years. The thing is that i've always been online desinging webstes as a hobby, building blogs and forums, but then deleting them in due to emotion or freeing up licenses.

Moved from Arizona to Michigan last year (right before stuff got 'really' bad) and haven't seen a trace of a decent job since. I do work part time and the wife is full time which leaves me a lot of time in front of the computer. This is not my sad story.

Over the last few years I have been incredibly interested in IM. I made a couple hundred dollars from adsense over the last few years also from a mildy busy forum site(that I deleted...).

My main issue is I don't know where to start, stay focused on ONE thing, and how to desinate time between doing/learning. How do you designate time? I am probably in front of my computer 10 hours a day.

Gosh - I sound like a mess! I'm not, just so confused as to how to get the momentum going.

Im thinking you need to define a clear set of goals for yourself!
Then make an action plan and go with it!

You'll never get anywhere jumping all over the place - you need to set a goal and follow it through.

Personal development might be a good thing for you to get into!
You could learn about goal setting, time management and what it takes to be a success.

But commitment is a major part of success - if you set a goal and then dont give up until you reach it - you cant fail!

Success = Skills x Action!
Set your goal, get the skills, take the action - and Hey Presto - Success!
There are heaps of articles on goal setting, time management and success etc on my site at: www.CompletePersonalDevelopment.com
I invite you to stop by and have a good read.

Its only you that can make your dreams real!
I spend about 12 hours a day online and am doing very well at it for a virtual newbie - (7-8 months) but I will admit I tackled several things before I found my focus!

Find your focus! Set your goals! Get the skills/tools you need! Take massive action! and very good luck to you too.
Kymmy

I would suggest you build an ecommerce store....you will stay focused on making sales..and you can use all that seo info you have collected.

You will see daily sales and this will motivate you daily to make it better.

You can have all the goals and plans in the world but I bet seeing a sale will get you focused.

I agree with Kummy Link.

Sounds like you need to distinguish a definite chief purpose: make some goals and keep your focus to one thing at a time.
I might suggest you start a personal goal journal. Write down your goals, select one to start with and then write down what you do everyday to get closer to that goal until it's done. I personally find immense power in writing things down, it helps me to focus and it also provides a chart of your achievements. Not to mention it will set you up automatically for the next day to come and build momentum.

Hi Blur,

I agree with Kymmy Link that you'll never get anywhere jumping all over the place.

Coincidentally, I'd written an article that talks about all you need is one great idea to succeed.

In the article, I shared the story of one of my friends who's a very smart guy with a great entrepreneurial spirit but he's still broke after years of being in business.

He's a hardworking chap but the problem with him is, he can't focus on one thing at a time. He's a real opportunist who jumps on every opportunity he comes across and that has been his stumbling block.

I also gave some very good examples of how some people make it big with just a single idea. Some even seem to be really silly ideas, but they worked!

Hop over to my blog to take a quick read. It might be of help to you.

The Power of One Great Idea

Cheers~

Mark
