I was 12 years old, still innocent, not really sure what I was doing with my life. I saw something shiny, I went for it. I went to the swimming pool with my Dad in Florida (on holiday, I'm from the grey UK) and it was absolutely packed. At least 200 kids running around, all with parents, staff, you get the idea. My Dad went off to get a drink I went swimming, except I couldn't find him. His seat was empty, nobody had seen him walking around. After 3 hours of being alone in a very loud, foreign land, I was taken in by the security of the hotel for a few hours. My Dad turned up with tears in his eyes, he had no idea what happened. Fast forward a few weeks. I go to school and pass out from an anxiety attack. What the hell? I quite literally dropped to the floor because it was too loud. By being lost, I'd developed social anxiety, great stuff. Over the next few months, I struggled. Very upsetting and stressful (for a 12 year old, being social is all you have. Playing football, seeing friends etc) and I could barely cope. I took to the internet because I physically couldn't be outside where it was loud. At the age of 12, and given a few months, I set up my first business. I connected local businesses to online eCommerce sites, blogs, you name it, and sold advertising space. Very little work from me, but after 2 years of doing this, I sold the business for $40,000 at the age of 14. I still had social anxiety, I had around 4 friends, but my god I fell in love with IM. Over the next 5 years until today, my anxiety isn't as bad. I still have small episodes, but I'm actually glad I got lost in the crowd. It forced me to find something else to do, and I fell in love with IM. In 6 months, I'm going to uni to do a business degree. I've managed 2 businesses externally, owned 3, and I'm currently setting one up now which is a very long term project. No matter what happens. No matter where your life leads you, if you give up, you've lost. Never stop trying. You'll miss every opportunity you never take. I hope this helps a few of you who may be close to giving up. Whenever I have a low day, no income, no opt-ins, I think back to that day where I set up my business. Just keep yourself motivated, if it feels like you're at rock bottom, it can only get better. No matter where you work, which niche, I wish you all the best of luck. Jamie. |

That's an inspiring story! I can relate to how your father felt with the tears in his eyes and my son wasn't out of my sight for more than 10 minutes. We were at a football game with over 100,000 people in attendance and we went to the bathroom and I lost him in the crowd. I panicked and freaked out and that was only a couple minutes! Internet marketing is great for anyone with social anxiety and people who simply can't leave their homes for whatever reason. I know several disabled people who drop ship Ebay products for a living. It's all about taking lemons and making lemonade. Congratulations on your success! |

This story touched a nerve with me. As a child/teen i suffered from extreme social anxiety. Dropped out of school and become very insular. It was in those troubled years i became fascinated with computers and was what most people would call a geek. Locked in my room with my old PC for company. However through the continuing efforts of my parents i grew into a confident young man. And as a result of being a geeky type i am now a web designer / programmer who loves his job who is confident in social situations. It wasn't easy but i have become used to it through years of dealing with clients. I still feel anxious sometimes but its not a bad thing. Keeps us on our toes! ![]() Matt |

This is a great story, thanks for sharing. I'm someone that always tries to keep this in mind. I used to make loads of money from Facebook before they changed their app approach and now I earn nothing there. I felt like quitting but I picked myself up and kept going and I am now SO pleased that I did. I think it's too easy to quit, but for me, I wouldn't know what else to do with my time! |

I don't know what is social anxiety, I don't think I have it, but it's true that I've never liked being in groups, I much prefer being one to one or at most me and two others, after it feels a bit like a group.. Of course that depends, if it's a group of like-minded people it's less of a chore, but if it's a group of people like in a party or events, I don't enjoy it. But I don't have panick attacks, it's just that I feel bored and not nearly as excited as others seem to be. :-) As for computers, I started very young, but unfortunately it was too early, I would have prefered to be born later so that I could start directly with internet, not swapping disk copies over snail mail. |

I think this post also illustrates that you can view the cards you are dealt as a blessing or a curse. With the social anxiety problem you could of let it beat you but you focused on what you COULD do DESPITE the problem. By the way, you have NOTHING to worry about socially - There are not many 14 year olds that sell a business for $40k! WOW! | |

Great story. That goes to show that you never know why things happen the way the happen, but just as scripture says, "ALL things work together for the good of those who are called according to His purpose." We're sure that your long-term business that you're setting up now will be a huge success! |

I believe things happen for a reason - especially in your case. That's amazing that a 12 year old could actually do that. Just imagine what you can do now... There are virtually no limits to what we can do. Overcoming obstacles is just a part of life and it's something we need to learn to live with. The way you handle it is the key. |

Indeed an inspiring one. As long as we are alive, there will always HOPE. Quitters never win and success comes to those who strive hard and perseveres. No matter how hard life is just be still and keep moving forward. Hope more people will be like you that even at your very young age you do such great things. Keep on that way.

This is inspiring, even though you face great obstacles and fear, you faced it with determination and perseverance. You have become a person who over come hardships of fear and anxiety. You develop your sense to fight against your giants (obstacles). ![]() I believe in your age you are going to do wonderful things. Just keep moving forward. |

inspiring story! I will never fail unless I confess so. There are times I giving up on some ideas after trying for some time, but as long as I keep working towards my goal, I will be there one day. Do no let failures bother you for too long. Most of the successful people are kind of lucky because they only failed less than 3 times before they succeed, but for me, for you, maybe it takes 4 failures...keep going.
