| Yes, that’s right. Stop reading articles like this on how to use Internet marketing to make money online or articles about network marketing. Why should you stop? Because it is time to stop reading and start doing. Imagine a youth who wants to be a great basketball player. He spends weeks in the library and reads and rereads every book possible on basketball strategy and how to make the perfect basketball shot. He reads the life stories of the pro basketball superstars to gain inspiration. Finally, he is ready. He steps onto the court, walks up to the free throw line and throws his very first basketball towards the hoop. And he misses…of course! You can’t learn a skill solely by reading – reading can give you tips on improving a skill, but your skill is truly honed ONLY by doing. The only way for this youth to be a great basketball player is to spend hours actually playing basketball. Then books and coaching can help him get better. |

I really REALLY need to thank you for that simple piece of profound advice. Not just when it comes to online business but to life in general. I am definitely guilty of that procrastination and as a newbie to internet marketing i can see it as a terrible flaw and a hindrance to actually getting things done. Thanks again for the nudge. |

Absolutely true... It's easy to sit and read - you are putting off the moment when you have to sink or swim! The only way to succeed is to make a start... ‘A good plan executed right now is better than a perfect plan executed next week’ – George S Patton Go for it! |

This is about as true as it gets - trust me, I know! I'd love to find a way of stopping this nasty habit, about the only thing that gets me out of reading mode and into production mode is an impossible deadline. At that point my standard response is to get into panic mode and pull a 30 hour shift to do a less-than-perfect job. You'd think I'd learn, but no - I'll go right back and do it again! Thanks for the reminder - sometimes you need someone else to point out th e"bleeding obvious" to you! Bill P.S. Dhrousha I love the phrase you're using in your signature - is it a quote or is it your own work? |

Fellow Warriors, reading is not a bad habit. Everyone has to read something to build upon his knowledge. But you don't want all of your knowledge to come from reading because reading doesn't make perfect, PRACTICE does! Just be sure to work and put the books and words into action. If I had spent all of my time reading when I joined the first marketing industry I joined, I would've never reached where I am now if I was just reading. But I did what I would proudly call my mentors did, put the information into effectiveness! We tend to read others success at a time when we don't need to read about their successes but create our own instead! |

At face value the advice in the OP is good. However, in order to act, you have to be self-motivated, otherwise it is not long before you slip back to your old ways. IMHO self-motivation is not something that can be learned, you've eother got it or you haven't. That's why there are so many people who cannot earn from IM, and only a small minority who actually make a long term success of it. In the final analysis, making money from the internet is not rocket science, you do not need a degree. What you do need is the resolve to accept that you will have many "failures" on your route to success. But the "failures" are not negative, they are actually valuable lessons that you should learn from, and thus do it a better way next time. |

Totally agree with that 100%. Before I was a perfectionist. But now I just TAKE ACTION and learn as I go along. For example, when I launched my WSO, the back end process had not been tested because a purchase had to be made. I tested as much as I could but then released my software product. In the first sale, the download page did not show. I got an email from the buyer and I quickly fixed the issue. One the 5th sales my download links had expired. So i fixed that. And that was it. I've had hundreds of people buying and no more errors! So the moral of the story (for me anyway) is that nobody or process is perfect, but they can become 99.999% perfect only by taking action and refining and fixing whats broken. My 2 cents. DZ |

Ah ha, Sports Metaphors, always a great motivator. Dear, if you don't want to read then you don't want to learn and if you don't want to learn, then you're going to find Internet Marketing a "tough road to hoe" (go look it up). READING IS ESSENTIAL, so is learning. All the best dear, Beatrix |

Very true If someone could come up with something that promised and proved to people that IF they stopped reading they would actually make money it'd be a best selling system/product Any ideas anyone? |

I am sure most of the reader here will agree to me. Reading is good, but it's a sort of adiction... "The journey of thousands miles starts with the first step..." Readers spend too much time in reading and planing and most of the times they see some soft diversions which lead them to places they were not planning for... |

It's other success stories and systems. How will reading their successful stories benefit you? ok, you make duplicate their systems and follow the same success. But keep in mind thatmost of the time the people that read most are the less productive and the people who give up. This is the same issue I faced when I joined the first marketing industry and which I am still part of Network Marketing. The great thing about this market is that it has some companies and to be precise Quest Net gives you the perfect system used by other partners that have actually reached their financial freedom. So the time to read has been spared. But then again there is no harm of developing your knowledge about the market yourself between once and a while.

I thinks so many people like myself have failed before and are afraid of failing again so we try to grasp and take in as much information as possible. It seems like a good thing but ends up being counterproductive because you're just sitting there reading information and trying to get everything right and end up never taking action.

Reading has its place as does action. A good coach will easily help resolve this problem but then people don't really appreciate a coach because it doesn't sound 'sexy' or give the promise of 'instant gratification' - The results of course can be instant in terms of daily productivity but is more mid to long term

What you are saying is true but I would like to add a point. The coach part, Well everyone must have a coach, even I have one. You need a person to point out the mistakes that you have made and how to reverse the mistakes. We are all human and its in our nature to make mistakes but its not part of our nature to learn from them. A coach can be a huge help in the learning from mistakes aspect. As for reading, It depends on the market that you are in. Some markets requires a lot of reading, while others don't. For example in internet marketing you have to read at a certain point to keep advancing with the tech and the progress that's happening. As for network marketing I believe reading at certain points in great, but in other conditions it must be neglected for a certain time till a certain goal is achieved after that a person should read to find out what could he do to reach out for the next step. |

Learning takes more than reading itself. It needs experience also. I guess we learn more through experience.

I agree with you. But it may require to read a little bit for learning and implementing in practical. Without knowledge we can not be practical. Satya |
