Hi, Does anyone know of any good vitamin or herb supplements for reducing stress and clearing your head? You know, that foggy feeling you get in your head sometimes, makes it hard to focus or concentrate. |

Hi Mgwolf! It took me a long while to realize that we control the mind, it does not control us..unless we let it. When I had my last Gym Membership I would still do sit ups on the floor just like I do at home. Because I never want to get too hooked on the fancy equipment and give my self an excuse not to excercise daily. The same is true with supplements. We have to learn to control our mind with our mind. | |

My response hinges on what is your normal diet. If you eat junk, then STOP doing that and forget the vitamins in bottles and get them from real nutrition. Pound down a gallon of coffee? cut it back or out. Your purchases keeping Miller Brewery execs in bonuses.Get another hobby. Your pipes clogged? Take cleansers to remove toxins. Exercise? At all? Just Do It. Chamomile teas, valerian, kava kave, essential oils, fish oils, juicing, wheat grass, flax seed oils, chia,... plenty more but, seriously folks, brump bump, a good diet based upon food that never had a "face" will add to your knoggin' power. Research acid/alkaline foods. Drink enough water, clean, cool, clear water. |

You have not really stated the circumstances surrounding your stress or need to clear your mind, or in what way it is not clear at the moment. So it is impossible to provide a specific response for you. However in general terms:
If none of this helps, and the problem continues and really troubles you, then consult your doctor. |

| For quick and easy I think "Natures Secret" (Super Cleanse) has good prepared cleansers and inexpensive also Michael Tierra's "Tri-Cleanse" is good as it is not addictive like cascara sagrada. It is an East Indian formula Ayurvedic. Good stuff. also very good prices. BTW "Supplement Warehouse" and Vitacost have some the the best prices around. Often by considerable amounts. I would first recommend researching a formula and locate a bulk herb source to build your own formula based upon YOUR individual needs. As an example Juniper Berries, Dandalion root, might be needed for me but not you. Get a good book, Dr Christopher's stuff would be a good start. In fact in fact dandelions are all over the place right now! Great time to get free harvest. Caution of course be sure that the area has not been treated with chemicals. If unsure avoid. Good luck on keeping those pipes clean ![]() Cptn Poop a Lot |

The next time you go to the grocery store, buy a bag of frozen blueberries and put some in your cereal every morning. You'll feel the difference and fast. Blueberries are one of nature's top small-fruit antioxidant. They help with brain function. They helped me, look Mom I can type :-)

read some Eckhart Tolle books such as 'Power of Now', then 'A new earth'. This will help increase your level of consciousness and as such, useless thoughts will diminish and you'll be more present in the moment than ever before. I know this sounds very hippyish and cloudy, but this book (PON) helped increase my awareness and clear my mind better than anything else. EDIT: oh yeah, and sex. ofcourse |

I use different teas sometimes. I also use Qivana Essentials. It's a natural herbal energy supplement. You can get 5 free samples with the link in my signature. There are a lot of items out there that do that. You should also try going to your local whole food store and asking them for some advice. |

Peppermint oil - increases brain activity about 21% - I used to use it when I smoked a lot of grass and needed to get clear. In general lighter foods: fruits and vegetables will help you be clear and alert. Meats, dairy, carbohydrates will be heavier to digest and may contribute to sluggishness, not to mention a fat ass. Stimulants life caffeine in anything eventually take a toll on your kidneys - you JING center in Chinese medicine - energy originates in the adrenals on top of the kidney and may be stimulates by tapping or massaging the kidney area. ChiKung stuff. Also Jing tonics in the morning - flower teas in particular contribute to kidney vitality. Refined sugars undermine it just as surely as caffeine. |

The only supplements I take are cod liver oil capsules as they have high levels of Omega 3 oil.. which is good stimulus for the brain. Although, I still need to quit smoking, it's getting out of hand, 20 a day. |

Quite a lot of good info here, and I'll add a couple additional items. I work with a couple of products that can help, and I also want to share some supplements that I use personally to help with cognition and mental focus. The first product clears the energy field around your body and space; it's called Blue Eagle Invocation. I use that all the time, and so do people who do space clearing (feng shui, etc.) The second products are flower essences. They can help you restore your energy fields when you are over tired or stressed. One of them was mentioned here: Rescue Remedy. But there are others. If you're interested in more send me a PM and I'll give you some links. You could also look for some aromatherapy products, such as grapefruit or lemon, whose fragrance can help perk up your attention and help you feel less fatigue. Now as for actual supplements, you can try a good Omega 3-6-9 oil, as well as phosphatidyl serrine. As others have mentioned, if your eating habits are poor, cut out the junk and start putting good healthy food in your body. Stop drinking sodas and eating sugar. You may not be getting proper nutrients, which if you think about it, is like only putting a cup of gasoline in your vehicle and then wondering why it will only go 2 miles an hour before it stops altogether. Hope this helps. |

I know of the feeling you are talking about. I often get caught up in work to the point of a migraine. Whenever I feel a "system overload"..I swim a few laps and then have some hot tea. I am not sure how, but it always works and makes me feel better.

Phosphatidylserine - it's supposed to stave off dementia in elderly folk (I'm not quite there yet!), but some studies have found it improves focus and concentration. Works best if taken with fish oil and you can get supplements with fish oil, phosphatidyl- serine, brahmi and ginko biloba. I find it helps a lot.

If you want a clearer mind then you can start with what you put into your body. I asked that question a while back in yahoo answers and decided to give it a whirl. Someone recommended taking Super B complex, Gingo Bilbo, and fish oil caps every morning. I didn't think much of it until about 1 month into it. I have to say that my mind stays clear, I can remember all sorts of crazy stuff i didn't before, and I have tons of energy throughout the day. Blueberries are good for an antioxidant or Nicain (non-flush) tabs. Also meditation is a good method to use right before you go to sleep each night to clear your mind. You don't have to do all that fancy stuff like sitting with your legs bent behind your head or anything. I lay in bed and right before I go to sleep I try "not" to think of anything. As soon as a thought or worry comes into your head push it out and try to focus on not focusing on anything...sounds crazy but you will be amazed at how well you awake the next day and once those other supplements kick in.....holly hell....it's night & day type experience. It took me about 1 month to get the full benefit but i feel great. Also if you need a good relaxing supplement St. Johns Wart is great. All this stuff can be purchased at Walmart for a few dollars a piece. |

I would say for "natural" and healthy clarity: 1) sleep 2) meditation 3) food Sleep means a difference of night and day for me. I’ve actually analyzed the optimal amount of sleep for me. I found that I prefer 5 or 7 hours of sleep to get me fully rested. For others it's even numbers like 6 or 8 hours to get them rested physically and mentally. Find out which works best for you, every body is unique. Meditation is a great way of clearing your mind and body of negative thoughts, emotions or a foggy mind. I would say, wake-up with it laying in bed and do it right before you go to sleep in the evening as noted in the post above. This really makes a difference in how you sleep, whereas your mind usually goes to sleep still processing stuff of your day, but after meditating you put your mind on to rest, so it is able to truly rest instead of processing all sorts of stuff during the night, which it usually does. Meditation is also useful to deal with stressful events occurring during the day. If you notice something is blocking you from getting the things done you want to get done, stop for a sec and meditate for about 5-10 min, and see how remarkably it frees up your mind. Food is the final important point. Low carbs and avoiding sugars is best for a steady and high energy level. You could start out with fresh organic fruits in the morning (strawberries, blue berries, grapes, banana etc) and eat salad with protein (chicken, fish) for lunch and fleece rice for dinner with lots of green veggies (=alkaline diet) for example. After 4 months of extensive testing I came to the conclusion that these 3 points are key in achieving clarity in the mind and having high energy throughout the entire day, giving you very productive days. Good luck and let us know how it's going. |

Nutrient is important--but brain fog is seldom only one thing. Plenty of good pure water; Try some of Donna Eden's energy routines; (she's easy to find on youtube, and they're quick Exercise--especially surf or other water sports for the abundance of negative ions; Occasional satisfying nookie helps release endorphins; and I have an app on my computer called a mindfulness chime that reminds me to get up and stretch and go outside for some sunlight--you can set it at whatever interval that suits your needs. |

Man, supplements don't work on everything... I achieve clear mind with listening to music (Nigthwish, Blink 182...) and I "let go". Just learn to relax and take things as they're no big deal. |

There are very, very, very, few supplements that have any scientific credibility. Fish oil is one of the few legitimate ones. Do not fall into the typical American way of thinking that a pill is the cure for your ills. If they were, our collective health would not be so poor compared to the rest of the world. Exercise. You don't need to go to the gym and kill yourself. Walk 30 minute to an hour a day. For strength exercises do body weight exercises at home or get a kettlebell. That is all you need. A body weight book that I highly recommend that stars off very basic and progresses to very elite status is Convict Conditioning. Joint mobility feels like the fountain of youth. Try Eric Cressey's DVD or Pavel Tsatsouline's book or DVD. Exercise does not sap you energy, it gives you energy throughout the day, and clears your head. Do not underestimate the effectiveness of walking an hour a day. Human beings evolved as creatures that moved through out the day, not sitting hunched over in a chair all day. Get enough sleep and don't eat junk food. Eat lean protein, vegetables and fruit. Mindfulness meditation is also very good. See Jon Kabat Zinn |

Use Milk Thistle and dandelion root to do a liver detox. Also, look into a colon cleanse using high fiber. Read the 7 day detox diet. Drink plenty of purified water - I prefer reverse osmosis water as it gets rid of the bad minerals and organics whereas distillation does not. And do not listen to the fools who say that water pH and minerals are important - neutral water is best - it would take 40 plus quarts consumed rapidly to mess up your blood pH - guess the biochemist in me gets frustrated with charlatan water purification gurus. Move to a diet heavy on water rich foods. Your protein should be the size and thickness of the palm of your hand. Also take a supplement with a good vitamin profile. Our soils are depleted in trace minerals and intensive agriculture is pushing plants to the edge. Look at the profile of Nutrilite double X and find one that meets your need, unless you feel like paying for Nutralite. Great product, just pricy. Lastly, practice meditation, yoga or other quieting routines. Most folks are on overload due to the radio/tv and internet. Shut things down and enjoy the peace for 10 minutes a few times a day. Hope that helps Chris |
