I have an update for you! I just read in Cosmo magazine that coffee is full of antioxidents and everyone knows antioxidants are very good for your health!

I drink two strong espressos a day, I don't think that I am addicted since I often go for days without one when I travel since I don't like to drink bad coffee, life is too short for that.
Coffee has many health benefits when drunk moderately: no more than 2 or 3 cups a day. If anyone is interested in the history of coffee I would suggest a great book by Stewart Lee Allen: "The Devil's Cup". A great read and funny as hell. Compare coffee to Cola, which would you pick for taste and health benefits? |

On a side note, I usually get really bad allergies (itchy eyes, sneezing, runny nose, etc.) in the springtime and this past year, I noticed that they weren't as severe as usual. I happened to be drinking about 2 cups of coffee at the time (I usually drink it for a few weeks each year, then stop), and I Googled it and saw a some article that mentioned that some people say coffee helps minimize their allergies. On the other hand, some people say it makes theirs worse, so go figure.

I find coffee to be one of the joys in life. But that's my life and everyone's biochemistry is slightly different. In addition, it's good to remember the "middle path"--there is such a thing as "too much of a good thing".

Caffeine is a stimulant and is the element that gives coffee and many other beverages their jolt. It is definitely a central-nervous-system stimulant. It acts as a mild stimulant to the central nervous system and both regular and decaf coffee can irritate the stomach. Drinking caffeine in boundless amounts as coffee or tea (which may actually have more caffeine than coffee) over a short period of time has been shown to raise blood sugar. So if you are prone to blood sugar issues, beware! And, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, lower your current caffeine intake to less than 300 milligrams a day or three cups of coffee.

The general rule for drinking coffee is to make sure that you don't drink it in excess. Coffee can be good in certain cases and bad in others. As you've noticed by now, the recurring theme in our answers is "moderation" - and it is the very reason why everyone ignores cliches. Cliches, though, are for the most part true. So for the majority of mankind, it is probably best to drink coffee in moderation.

Yup,
coffee is my favorite. But I have to stop it now because it push my adrenaline up and make my heart beeping fast. I only used this to any fighting competition (old fashion methods). Now - I like coffee but I only take it once a month ![]() moderation! That's the key... Quote:

I rarely drank coffee because the taste of instant coffee granules makes a poor cup of coffee. But then in 2007 I discovered filter coffee-A lovely drink.
I had 2 or 3 cups of filter coffee every day and over a five week period dark circles appeared around my eyes.Previously Non existant. Seems my 6 hours sleep and coffee drinking triggered a dark circles around my eyes problem. Not touched ANY coffee since december 2007 and dark circles around my eyes disapperead within 3 months. |

Yes coffee is good for you in moderation. Studies over the last three years have indicated that coffee has more antioxidants than any other liquid on the planet. Thats more than green tea or any tea for that matter. Also I want to add that coffee is good for you if you do not have any heart or blood pressure problems.

I love coffee but make sure i drink in moderation.
Coffee has both pros and cons that have been covered here. I would suggest that you keep it below 2 cups a day and for every cup of coffee you drink that you drink two cups of water. Now as far as business, i would say coffee has been a plus for me. As an example when i have quit drinking coffee for 6 months or so, my teeth get whiter and i seem much more mellow, then i look back and say what the heck did i get done? not much. When i drink coffee i get so much accomplished and even seem to keep in better shape. Coffee, rock on... |

As for business, coffee is supposedly good for making deals, as the one who drinks it will be less resistant to your offers. I read it in some entrepeneur magazine, and it didn't say it had a "huge" effect, but it adds up ![]() I've also read that you can drink up to 3 cups day, and the benefits will be close to equal with the disadvantages. If you drink more than that, it will do you nothing good.

Here`s list of pros & cons:-
The "Pros" 1-Antioxidants. Coffee is loaded with antioxidants like chlorogenic acid and melanoidins. Antioxidants help prevent oxidation, a process that causes damage to cells and contributes to aging. Melanoidins from roasted coffee have antioxidative effects depending on the way the coffee is treated. 2-Parkinson's disease. Regular coffee consumption reduces the risk of Parkinson's disease. A number of studies have demonstrated that people who drink coffee on a regular basis are significantly less likely to develop Parkinson's disease. 3-Diabetes. Coffee consumption is potentially protective against the development of type 2 diabetes. A prospective cohort study as part of the US Nurses Health Study found that moderate consumption of both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee may lower the risk of type 2 diabetes in younger and middle aged women. 4-Liver cirrhosis. Coffee drinking may protect against liver cirrhosis, especially alcoholic cirrhosis. 5-Gallstones. There is some evidence that coffee drinking may be protective against gallstone formation in both men and women. 6-Kidney stones. Coffee consumption lowers the risk of kidney stones formation. Coffee increases the urine volume, preventing the crystallization of calcium oxalate, the most common component of kidney stones. 7-Improved mental performance. Caffeine in coffee is a well-known stimulant. Coffee promotes alertness, attention and wakefulness. The cup of coffee can also increase information processing. 8-Alzheimer's disease. Regular coffee consumption seems to protect against Alzheimer's disease. Recent mouse study showed that caffeine equivalent to 5 cups of coffee per day reduced the build up of destructive plaques in the brain. 9-Asthma. Caffeine in coffee is related to theophylline, an old asthma medication. Caffeine can open airways and improve asthma symptoms. 10-Caffeine safety. In 1958, caffeine was placed on the Food and Drug Administration's list as generally recognized as safe (GRAS). The "Cons" 1-Heart disease. The relation between coffee consumption and risk of cardiovascular disease has been examined in many studies, but the results remain controversial. Most prospective cohort studies have not found coffee consumption to be associated with significantly increased cardiovascular disease risk. On one hand, diterpenes cafestol and kahweol present in unfiltered coffee and caffeine each appear to increase risk of coronary heart disease. High quality studies have confirmed the cholesterol-raising effect of diterpenes. Coffee consumption is also associated with an increase of plasma homocysteine, a risk factor for coronary heart disease. On the other hand, a lower risk of heart disease among moderate coffee drinkers might be due to antioxidants found in coffee.Besides that, caffeine can increase the risk of heart attack, especially among those people who carry the "slow" gene variant for the enzyme that metabolizes caffeine. 2-Cholesterol. Heavy consumption of boiled coffee elevates blood total and LDL cholesterol ("bad cholesterol") levels. Unfiltered coffee contains two cholesterol-raising compounds cafestol and kahweol. 3-Blood vessels. Coffee negatively affects the blood vessel tone and function (increases arterial stiffness and wave reflections). 4-Heart rhythm disturbances. Coffee can cause rapid or irregular heartbeats (cardiac arrhythmias). 5-Blood pressure. Although coffee consumption is not a significant risk factor for hypertension, it produces unfavorable effects on blood pressure and people prone to hypertension may be more susceptible. Recent Italian study found that coffee drinking can slightly increase the risk for development of sustained hypertension in persons with elevated blood pressure. 6-Osteoporosis. Coffee intake may induce an extra urinary excretion of calcium. Heavy coffee consumption (4 cups=600 ml or more) can modestly increase the risk of osteoporosis, especially in women with a low calcium intake. 7-Heartburn. A cup of coffee can trigger heartburn 8-Sleep. Most of us are aware of the stimulatory effects of caffeine. High amounts of caffeine taken before going to sleep, can cause restlessness and difficulty falling asleep, tendency to be awakened more readily by sudden noises, and a decreased quality of sleep. However, some people can drink coffee and fall right asleep. 9-Dehydration. The caffeine in coffee is a mild diuretic and can increase urine excretion. This effect may be easily neutralized by drinking an extra glass of water. 10-Dependence. Caffeine is a drug, a mild central nervous system stimulant, and it produces dependence. Caffeine withdrawal is a real syndrome. You may get a few days of headache and irritability if you choose to quit drinking coffee, however, it is relatively easy to break this habit, and most people are not addicted to caffeine You can find many other sources on web. Regards... |

Coffee is bad for you if you drink 6-7 cups a day. I have one cup of coffee a day and that's it. Also, It depends on how old you are. If you are in this business and do a lot of sitting that is also bad for you.
Some Doctors suggest that black pepper and to much coffee will irritate your Prostate. When you add that to sitting in front of the computer to much that is what I would call the double whammy. ![]() Jimmy. |

I never really believed that drinking coffee is good for you. I heard it stunts your growth. But I guess if you're at that age where you're not going to grow at all anymore, then drinking coffee is not a big deal.

Moderation is always the best idea in most cases and as far as the different reports you read it depends on who's interest they are serving. Remember when it was considered unhealthy to eat eggs, now any good nutritionist will tell you that they are a great source of protein. Common sense is your best resource.

2 cups of coffee a day makes you younger and alert all throughout the day. But the excess can be truly bad as it can affect your sleeping patterns, your nervous system, and can increase your body's acidity which is a trigger for gout...Just take it in moderation.

Looking at the widely different opinions in this thread and other scientific and medical theories and findings, the jury's still out in the coffee case and looks likely to remain out for a long time.
But, in my opinion, an excellent cup of strong macchiato is one of the finest taste experiences in the world ranking alongside vintage champagne, fine oysters, a perfect strawberry, the concoctions of great chefs and all the other yummy things that I'm drooling over as I write this. Therefore, coffee to me is not just good - it's really premier league great! |

It's up to you. Coffee can be advantageous and at the same time disadvantageous. Coffee contains a stimulant called caffeine which can make you active, more receptive and alert. however, it may can also be addictive and stimulate if taking in excess dosage. Drink moderately.

I agree that everything must be consumed in moderation. There used be so much news about egg yolk having high cholesterol and its no good but recently I read somewhere that says it is good for you. (!!!??) Same with water, when I was younger I was told to drink a lot of water but now I heard that drinking too much is no good too.....

Bro, my wife loves coffee as it is a culture thing with her. She is from the Cape Verde Islands and she grew up drinking coffee. Me personally, I like it but don't drink it often. My wife sometimes gets me to drink it with her. Who cares if it is good or bad. If you drink it in moderation it can't be that bad for you. Water is good for the body but if you drink way too much of it it can kill you. So I say if drinking coffee brings you peace and joy then drink your coffee.

The scientific research is sometimes confusing for ordinary folks like you and me. Sometimes we come across research which says salt is bad and then another comes along which contradicts the earlier finding. Most of our drinks and eatables have both positive and negative aspects. Taken in moderate amounts, they have a healthy impact but if you go overboard, you are likely to harm yourself. The same is true for coffee.
