How do I appear less "corporate"?

I have been going to a lot of interviews (sales telesales)recently and the vast majority have said that I appear to corporate and professional. What does this mean and how can I change? Apparently I would be the perfect candidate if I was just less corporate!

Apply to places that are more corporate or target executives.

The latter tend to be smaller teams.

Wear casual clothes instead of any posh ones

Corporate generally describes a level of formality and conservatism. For example, wearing a navy blue suit with a white shirt and a solid/plain color tie.

You should likely be not wearing suits/wear something more casual since you're being called corporate. If everyone around you is wearing a suit and still calling you corporate, go buy a very funky shirt + tie combination that would get you kicked out a board meeting and rock that!

That's a very good point but I thought I was safe in wearing a suit to an interview! What should I wear instead?

Also how can I show more "energy" during interview?

Dress more casually, business casual instead of business formal.

Business casual = buttoned shirt with a sports jacket or blazer instead of suit and tie.

Smile more. Other than that you can't fake energy. The interviewers will be able to tell. Find a job worth being excited and energetic for to appear energetic. If that fails then a couple of redbulls perhaps.
