Default how to get up early and start doing what you need to

how to have a great schedule to keep you motivated.

recently I've come across a great article about how to get up in the morning and not let anything get your way.

thought this would be useful for someone who has trouble sticking to a schedule and too lazy (are we all in this category one way or another )

here you go:

How to Become an Early Riser

How to Get Up Right Away When Your Alarm Goes Off

hope you like it.

For me it's called motivation. I love to get up early most days but find it hard to start working early. If only I could combine the two. I'll give it a read. Thanks for the info.

Hi Art,

Quote:
My life has taught me that NOBODY can show me how THEIR experiences, theories or superstitions can have any impact at all on me.
And then you proceed to lay down absolutes based on how things work/don't work for YOU.

Art, just because something doesn't work for you, doesn't mean that it won't work for anyone else in the world.

I see a lot of fluff in the self improvement marketplace.

BUT, I also have many books that touch upon the theme of self-improvement, and I have learnt some great lessons from them.

Does this mean everyone can? No.

But your experience doesn't mean that no-one can either.

To close your mind off to the possibility of learning from a wide variety of sources is not a wise move. To be too open to the possibility of learning from a wide variety of sources may have some pitfalls but is infinitely better than thinking that you know it all, yet confirming that you don't on a regular basis.

You say that 'life has taught me that nobody can show me how their experiences [snip] can have any impact on me'. I'll show you.

When you were too young to look after yourself (like one week old) did you clothe, clean, protect and feed yourself?

Well someone elses experiences saved your life at that time then, Art. I call that impact.

I'm all for negativity when that negativity helps others to avoid further negativity.

But when it's spouted at every available opportunity, just for the sake of being negative, with no logical basis or reason and with huge gaping holes in it's justification, and it's only purpose is to stifle learning, open mindedness and sharing of positivity - I see it as one of the most destructive forces there is, and I see it's root cause as being someone who doesn't realise that even though their story might be full of difficulty and great challenges, they believe that there is no-one in the world worse off than them. This is a mistake, in my opinion.

Hi,

Well I see Art's post has gone for some reason.

Either way, I looked at the links and I have to say that whenever I read Steve Pavlina's stuff, he demonstrates such a thorough knowledge of his topic, none of it fluffy, all of it innovative and useful, that not only does it help me as it was intended, but it also helps me as an information publisher - because his stuff is the wheat that shows the chaff for what it is.

For example, the second link -

How to Get Up Right Away When Your Alarm Goes Off

...I admit, when I read the title a little negative part of me thought 'here we go again'.

But after reading it, he breaks it down into easy-to-digest-and-act-upon facts. Summarised as such -

Quote:
Now some people, upon encountering this conundrum, will conclude that they simply need more discipline. And that’s actually somewhat true, but not in the way you’d expect. If you want to get up at 5am, you don’t need more discipline at 5am. You don’t need better self-talk. You don’t need two or three alarm clocks scattered around the room. And you don’t need an advanced alarm that includes technology from NASA’s astronaut toilets.

You actually need more discipline when you’re fully awake and conscious: the discipline to know that you can’t trust yourself to make intelligent, conscious decisions the moment you first wake up. You need the discipline to accept that you’re not going to make the right call at 5am. Your 5am coach is no good, so you need to fire him.

What’s the real solution then? The solution is to delegate the problem. Turn the whole thing over to your subconscious mind. Cut your conscious mind out of the loop.

Now how do you do this? The same way you learned any other repeatable skill. You practice until it becomes rote. Eventually your subconscious will take over and run the script on autopilot.
(boldness added)

...and then he proceeds to explain a practical way that anyone can actually achieve this.

If you were to then go and find a self-improvement product that seemed to be a bit 'fluffy' that dealt with this particular problem, you will probably find that it only goes as deep as suggesting - 'you need more will-power'. And if you were to try a few more, you would probably find the same. These writers have skimmed the surface, re-hashed and thrown it out there. And this advice is actually dangerous, because the reader will fail and conclude that they have zero will-power.

So what I learn from Steve Pavlina is that you have to take it a few levels further/deeper - expand on the stuff where others daren't go, because they don't have the answers. And if you can get to the root of a problem, demystify it, present it in a format that the 'average person' can digest (making light bulbs go off) and then provide a solution that they can act upon in order to actually solve the problem - you're golden.

I can think of others who have taught me exactly the same via their products/writing ^^^ ;-)

What I am saying is, if someone approached me and said -

'I've made all these sites/products with good information. It's factual and correct, but not particularly special. I have to admit that there are many other sites/products out there with similar quality information on the same subject. That's OK, I get by, but i want to do something different. I want to lead a market. I want to be a wavemaker. I want to be different by being the best.'

I would say that the best starting point is to examine those who have achieved this.

And I would give Steve Pavlina as a great example. And him ^^^ too (the one who thanked me above) ;-)

This is possibly one of the most valuable things I've read on here, thanks. You articulated exactly what I'm trying to learn to do (with wildly varying degrees of success).

I'd never heard of the guy before, but now I'm off to read me some Steve Pavlina

Hi Harry,

Thanks.

Don't forget this guy -

His name is Paul Myers and you might have seen him around. Seriously, he teaches what I wrote above and how to implement it successfully - amongst many other things. I'm just re-hashing.

Oh, I'm well aware, trust me. Well aware

I'm at a stage right now where I'm reading SO much good stuff and it's so well explained that I feel I can just go out and do it immediately - and then reality slaps me in the face.

I think a very important part of learning to communicate and to move people with your writing and with your words, is accepting that no matter how well explained it is, you're still gonna fail a lot of the time at first. That's just how it is. All you can do is own up to the mistakes and the bad ideas, keep reading, and keep trying while keeping your eye on the people who already do what you want to do.

After a while it stops even being about money - it becomes like this personal thing. I want to be someone who creates real value. Period. If that gets me a good business, well that would be awesome too of course. But it's not what drives me any more, though it definitely used to be.

This is the point where everything begins to
flow and you will be able to tap into the "current"
of currency.

Once you start doing action for the love of it and
the end result is off of money - you will see more
money and abundance rush into your life like a
damn being busted.

The best thing you can do is set up some goals and work for them.... Believe in the success and it will happen. Take it to the top!

The wee hours are great ones to work. I used to work online during my day time. But just one day i got up early and started doing my works. I could see that i finished my works in just 2 hours which i could have done in 3 hours during day time.

It was a very interesting exercise doing dress rehearsals to achieve the objective .After all this is what astronauts do before going to space.space like conditions are created and they train themselves under those conditions.Due to this training they cope up well when they actually go to space.

Thanks for sharing those two articles--I loved them.

I totally agree with going to bed when you're really sleepy and getting up at the same time every morning--great idea!

Steve's blog is great, but I found another one some time ago focused only on this topic

I can't go to sleep when I'm really sleepy because then I feel too tired in the morning:/ Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks for the articles.

I have heard from Brian Tracy that you can
program your mind to get up whenever you want it to.

But I was strugling to do that. Always was stretching it for 15-20 minutes.

Want to get up early and non of these other techniques are working? Get some 3-5 year old kids and that'll do the trick.

I'm a new member and this was one of the first postings I read. Very good information. I've been able to set my alarm for 5:11 am and get up quickly because I really need to get to the gym each day. Now I have to work on getting showered and at my home office desk shortly after I return home. It really helps to have something you enjoy doing to kick off your day.

I didn't see any mention of trying to match your bed time to that of your partner. My wife is a late night person and I am an early morning person. She understands what I am doing but we both have to work at accommodating to the other person's needs.
