Want to make more money? Change your daily web rituals

My daily web ritual used to be like this:

Check email
Read news sites
Read digg
Read reddit
Check email
Work
Read more news sites
Work
etc etc

Talk about wasted productivity. Sure, I was entertained by news but it doesn't put money in my pocket.

Here's my current web ritual

Check email
Read SEO marketing news sites
Read SEO tutorial blogs
Read affiliate marketing news sites
Read reddit's marketing channel
Check email
Work
Read inspiring marketing case studies
Work
etc etc

Case in point: People are naturally curious. We like to be entertained. By choosing 'entertainment' that also gives us WORKING KNOWLEDGE and INSPIRATION, we make more money

Change your rituals today!

Good points. Changes don't need to be radical to be effective. A small subtle change can be just as effective.

    Nice post.

Our life is governed by our daily rituals and habits.

Show me your average day and I can see what is important to you and where you will be in 1 month, 1 year, 5 years if you continue with these habits.

If you really want to achieve your goals and dreams. Make the decision that you will sacrifice the instant gratification stuff and focus on working hard on your craft. Then start slowly building empowering habits.

    Cheers,

    C.G.

It's so easy to be distracted when a. You're your own boss, and b. You're on the internet with loads of places to go.

A good tactic is to schedule time for work and time for play. When you muddy the water, invariably you get little done.

Must be disciplined when working at home, treat it like a job. Act like you have to report to your boss at the end of the day.

I start working even before I get out of bed in the morning. It's just part of my winning ritual. If I get out of bed, there's the inevitable shower, self care, caffiene ritual that disrupts my best and most productive time of the day. So I keep my laptop near the bed and just start right to work first thing when I wake up, without bothering to get out of bed. You could use your tablet, depending on what your work happens to be. There's really no reason to get a late start on work as your brain is best capable of work when you wake up, despite what your body is telling you.

Agree. First thing I do when I wake up is go for a jog or just do some exercises. Then I come home eat breakfast, shower and then am ready for my day feeling active and refreshed.

I agree with what you said, and this is exactly what I've been doing lately.

I've also been using a website blocking app for Chrome to keep me from temptation. Lead me not into sin....

There's also this great thing called RescueTime which I really like. It monitors all of your activity per category and then shows you a graph of how active you were each day (for example today I was 61% productive, +12% than yesterday). It has helped me be much more aware of how I spend my time.

A thing I would like to add to your post is to give your self some leisure time as well. Being very productive is good, but you need to take care of your need for relaxation as well, else you'll burn out.

Just keep a good balance between productive days and work-free days

I was going to add this as well...well said. Play is important and "there is no future like today" - today is your future so if not today then when?

True. Work in blocks. I do this. I am actually more efficient when I do this.

Excellent insight! Thank you very much for sharing. What Chrome app were you referring to? I'd like to use it. I'm going to download RescueTime. It sounds like a great tool.

The app is called "Simple Blocker" and it's free. It's very no-fuss and dummy-proof, which I really like...I'm trying to block sites, not launch a rocket ship, lol.

You basically input what sites you block in a list in its interface. Then you push an on/off button...and that's all you literally need to do.
You can also set a timer, which gives you a countdown of how much time you have left in which the sites are blocked. I found it a bit superfluous though, since you can cancel the timer much like you can turn the button on/off.
It's a very good app, you should definitely get it

Glad I could be of help

One thing I like to do is get up very early in the morning at a time where I would love to continue sleeping. That is when I am most productive. The reason being, I want to go back to sleep and I know the sooner I complete my daily tasks, that faster I can get back to sleep.

It obviously takes a lot of discipline to actually get up early in the morning and stay up (especially when you're really tired), but if you can muster the will-power to do it, you will notice that you don't have any urges to waste time on social media or any unnecessary websites because you're not in the mood to be entertained, you just want to get your work done, and go back to sleep.

Don't start your work day by checking email, instead, use your first hour on the most important goal of that day.

Jim Rohn said it best, "success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day."

The major changes that we do generally don't last. If you have never worked out a day in your life to working out everyday for 1:30 to 2 hours a day will probably not last.

It is the subtleties that do the job. Just changing TV to reading can impact and flip around somebody's life. We need to practice small and simple changes to achieve our goals. Great post!

    To everyone's success,

    Roy Cohen

Excellent advice. What we do today and everyday determines what we will become in 10 years time. I would also like to add on a quote that my dad use to say - "suffer now, enjoy for the rest of your life".

  • There is a well known productivity book called "Eat The Frog" by Brian Tracy which is all about getting things done (obviously).

The "eat the frog" concept refers to doing the difficult tasks first in the day, and I agree with this.

It's often the difficult challenging work that moves our business forward, and we avoid because it brings us out of our comfort zone. I always do the challenging stuff in the morning when I am fresh and at my best.

Nice Post, it's said, if you want to tell if a man is successful or not, look at his schedule. Darren Hardy talks alot about the importance of your schedule.
