Whatever you're doing RIGHT NOW - give it your ENTIRE FOCUS.

I've found from personal experience - and studying TONS of successful people in all areas of life - you really have to have LASER focus in anything it is that you want to achieve...

...and I'm not just talking about setting yourself goals and visualizing every day - which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

What I am referring to in this post - is to FOCUS on what you're doing right now. Give it your undivided attention.

Whether you're working out, reading a book, working on your business - whatever it is - fully focus on what you're doing right now.

Be present to the moment.

It's the weirdest thing - but when you do this...

- you absorb information like a sponge
- you become more productive
- ideas flow to you

The reason for this is because you'll enter a more relaxed, 'in the moment' state.

Rather then worrying about what happened with that person the other day, or how you should have handled 'that' situation better.

Focus all of your attention on this moment right now - and give it everything you've got.

If you're working - FOCUS ONLY ON YOUR WORK, on those activities that will produce results (income producing activities).

As a side note - in the posts I put up here - I like to share what I've been learning about recently or what I am most interested in and just go with it.

Hopefully this helps someone on here - or inspires someone to take action and fully focus on what you're doing.

Peace!

-Zak

When you're working on a launch and you're already getting results in other programs and products you've created, you can't help but become addicted and focus..

It becomes addicting very quickly.. people doing IM full-time know the feeling. This is where you want to get mentally.. to the point where it's addicting and you have to focus because you don't want to do anything else.

    Great share!

So true - you become addicted when you begin getting results!

And while that is true, there are times when you can go off course - it's important to consciously be aware of your focus.

I think this is very relevant to all walks of life not just marketing but this especially resonates with me regarding marketing. I was one of those people (like most people that first get into IM) that wanted to do everything. I was hearing about all these wonderful strategies that made people money and I wanted to do that too.

The obvious result of this is you end up with bits a peices from various good strategies that sum up to nothing in particular as all the parts of your new "system" are not coherent and dont work together. Whereas you avoid this if you gain focus at the start of the whole process. Find something that you like and that you know to be a good strategy based on speaking with other people you know in IM or a mentor or such and just focus on THAT and nothing else. Focus on the process and providing a good service and great value to your customers and you will make money as a by-product of it all.

    Thanks for the post!

      GREAT post, Zak!

This is an excerpt from my ebook, "How To Focus - Beat Procrastination & Get Things Done":

My Biggest Advantage - And How To Make It Yours

I've got an advantage over you. I'm a surgeon.

When I'm in the OR (operating room), my focus must be total. Absolute. There's no room for less.

If my cellphone rings, I ignore it.

If my legs ache, I ignore them.

If my scalp itches, I ignore it.

If a ping indicates a new message, I ignore it.

If the fire alarm goes off, I still ignore it. (But I operate a little faster!)

And that's because I cannot afford to lose my concentration. A life hangs in the balance. Literally.

Now, that may sound dramatic. Even unreal. To you.

Because you're (probably) not a surgeon.

And your work (probably) doesn't have a 'life-or-death' risk attached.

That's my "advantage" - because professionally, I've taught myself to focus absolutely on the job at hand, and it is easy to transfer that focus to other things in my life also.

You can make it your advantage, too.

      It's easy.

All it takes is your IMAGINATION.

Maybe, sometime or the other, you've dreamed about being a doctor. A surgeon. Maybe a brain surgeon. Or a heart surgeon.

      So, you didn't become one.

But there's no reason why you shouldn't use the power of your imagination to make believe that you did.

And that whatever project you're engaged upon is like a surgical operation!

It may be that you're slicing veggies for dinner. Or writing a homework assignment. Or reading a report. Or weeding your garden. Or anything else.

Imagine that your current job has a 'life or death' risk.

If you focus on it, until the job is done, you're saving a life.

If you lose focus, and leave it unfinished, you're losing a life.

What will make you lose focus and give up?

      A ringing phone?

      No.

      A flashing ad?

      No.

      A doorbell?

      No.

      A friend's SMS message?

      Hmm... Well, no.

      An EARTHQUAKE?

      Yes!!!

So... ANYTHING less than an earthquake cannot distract you from the job at hand - because you're now playing mind-games with yourself.

You are setting the right priorities for the work you're engaged upon.

      You're making your work IMPORTANT.

Important enough to ignore other things.

Important enough to decide to finish it.

Important enough to say 'No' to anything else - until it's done.

And this approach has a wonderful side-effect... you'll start doing ONLY important things.

Good post. I would have to agree that in order to be successful you really have to focus on one topic & make it the very best you can. Too many people jump from one program to the next if they're not making money in the first couple weeks & I'm guilty of doing the same thing. If you truly want to build ranks in the search engines you need a ton of quality backlinks that take time in order to make & get indexed. It may take 6 months to a year to really start seeing results but with dedication, you'll have a passive income for years to come

      So true!

The hardest part is the beginning.

After that, you begin to build momentum - and that is a beautiful thing!

Not many people make it past the starting line though - because they don't have the focus they need.

Another great way to get that focus is by having REASONS for doing what you're doing - if it is something you're excited about - AWESOME!

If it is something you HAVE TO DO - awesome!

Find ANYTHING you can to motivate you to take action and stay focused!

Great post. There are so many distractions around us, especially those of us who work from home on a computer. I have had the tendency to mindlessly browse the internet when I should be working.

One tool that had helped me keep focus is a tool called focus booster. When that clock starts ticking I make sure to ONLY focus on the task at hand. It also allows me to finish my tasks for the day much quicker so I can then spend the rest of my day doing things I enjoy.

If I spent the day trying to work with distractions, I'll still end up finishing the work most of the time, but it usually will take up the entire day instead of just a few hours of 100% focus.

Focus directly stems from motivation;' the more motivated you are like trying to stop someone from dying, the more your focus magnetizes on your field of motivation. Motivation is the bearing hinge of focus. How well you are motivated to get a result makes you want to pour out yourself more into it! And that means you see anything that may not contribute to your reaching your goal an adversary!

        Be motivated aright!

Motivation is definitely important - and you should do anything you can to motivate yourself to take action.

But don't depend on motivation in order to take action - take action first and the motivation will come.

Excellent information here Zak (and other posters as well). Thanks for sharing this.

I like the point you made about meditation. Probably one of the key ideas in having good focus. The whole purpose of meditation is to disengage the brain and explore the silence within.

It's the opposite of focus, really. Many call it no-mind (the Japanese have a word for it, but no clue how to spell it -- satori, maybe?).

When you can quiet the chatter in your mind, you improve the quality of your focus.

          • focus on the prize = easier to accomplish

more focus/concentration = less mixed emotions? I think so.
less mixed emotions = faster achievement

            great research :

The study, published in the journal NeuroImage, found that, indeed, during periods of mind-wandering, regions of the brain’s default mode network were activated. Then when participants became aware of this mind-wandering, brain regions related to the detection of salient or relevant events came online.
            [ link : http://psychology.emory.edu/cognitio...ime_course.pdf ]

Physical activity has been shown to sharpen focus, in people with ADHD and without, possibly because it can help trigger the release of chemicals in the brain that are thought to affect learning and memory. One report from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign suggests that aerobic exercise in particular may improve immediate and long-term functioning in regions of the brain relating to attention.

In 2011, researchers from the University of Wisconsin demonstrated that daily meditation-like thought could shift frontal brain activity toward a pattern that is associated with what cognitive scientists call positive, approach-oriented emotional states — states that make us more likely to engage the world rather than to withdraw from it.

If any warriors have research backed support for this marketing gimmick called Law of Attraction, I would like to see it.

Dr. Mani (the surgeon, above) is so right - concentration and focus - vital to success whether you're in the OR or kissing your girlfriend. Wanna hear the ultimate focus? A Japanese fighter pilot by the name of Suburo Saki got shot up on a mission. He landed ok, but needed immediate eye surgery.

    Peace!

    -Zak
Really fantastic. The moment I was reading, I found myself hypnotysed. I just focused what you were saying and will try to do it in other areas and moments of my life. Great guidance thanks. Also thumbs up for your interesting and unique idea and writing. Thanks once again.............

Great post! I agree with the comments here. I think FOCUS is very important in our everyday lives. If you focus on something you can greatly improve the whole process but most importantly, you can improve the output.

seems more important today then ever.

1991 study by Pacific Bell (old telephone company), estimated we got 3,000 commercial messages/day.

recent estimates now put it over 30,000 a day!

ZakL 's OP line - What I am referring to in this post - is to FOCUS on what you're doing right now. Give it your undivided attention.

we have to focus now, and face information-overload, internet speeds, and our age of acceleration more and more to pinpoint what's most important.

FOCUS improves not just the results but it also improves the whole process. Focusing on one thing is very important especially if you are following a certain flow or if your meeting a deadline. Also I believe that it works best with discipline.

FOCUS is really important but a lot of people have a hard time doing so. It takes a lot of convincing and discipline.

Multitasking is difficult for the masculine. All that shifting gears, changing direction, getting back into alignment. The feminine is quite different with the ability to go in multiple directions at once. Not better, just different. Truly multitasking has its limits – going in multiple directions at once slows down how far you go in each.
