Removing "But" From Your Business...
A recent event got be thinking...
A subscriber of mine contacted me on Skype. Very nice person, smart, and articulate.
They struggled all year to get things going so I offered to jump on Skype with them and toss some ideas around.
Immediately, I noticed something....
Anytime I brought up an idea, there was always a "but".
They would talk about another person's success and use the word "but".
You see it all the time on this forum...
"But they have a 20,000 person list" "But they already have a following" "But they are getting a ton of traffic" "But they know Wordpress" "But they already have existing relationships built with affiliates", etc..
Of course, I'm not perfect. I do the same thing from time to time, we all do.
When you break it down, "But" is really just an excuse. You already know what you need to do since you've identified why someone else is having success.
There's many times "but" can be transformed into a goal:
"But they have a 20,000 person list" ---> "I'm going to build a 20,000 person list"
"But they already have a following" ---> "I'm going to work my ass off and build a following"
"But they are getting a ton of traffic" ---> "I'm going to hustle and learn everything I can about generating traffic"
"But they know Wordpress" ---> "I'm going to watch tutorials and Google around to learn Wordpress"
"But they already have existing relationships with affiliates" ---> "I'm going to make a serious effort to connect myself with affiliates".
"But" can also cause you to have negative emotions and even become resentful towards others. So remove it from your thought process.
Just something to keep in mind heading into 2015.
If you have any thoughts as it relates to this or point out any resources that talk about this, I'd love to hear your take since there's many "professional" mindset people in here.
