All my life, I used to wonder, why everyone is crazily talking about being successful in life.

Success has a different meaning to different people. However the common thread connecting all the different ideologies and meaning of success is this....
Success defines our freedom. We all are in the cages of so many restrictions to cherish and enjoy this beautiful life. As we progress with this life, we realize that we are bound by so many restrictions. In some lives these cages are less strong while in others they are like dungeons.

When you struggle and break free from the cage engulfing your life; when you start breathing with the air of freedom, then you can start calling yourself successful.

I believe more than anything else, success is a feeling. You may like to associate it with wealth, health or any other parameter depending on what you wish to have in life. Thus success is absolutely a personal feeling to be experienced at a personal level.

When you get the freedom to do or experience what you love, then you can say that you are standing on the pedestal of success!

So the quintessential parameter to define your success is freedom: Freedom to make choices as per your will and to receive whatever your heart desires!

Yes, I completely agree. For me its plain and simple - to me success is defined by the amount of freedom I have, not the amount of money.

Beyond necessities, for me money is most valuable to buy access to freedom: time, mobility, flexibility and independence.

  • Success is ultimately what you BELIEVE it is, and it will almost always lead back to 1 simple thing:

    HAPPINESS!

    So, Success = Happiness.

Success has different meanings. Depending on how old you are, your gender, status and other factors, success will have a different definition.
I think freedom is being able to chose which definition of success fits for you.

So far, I've realized that the word "success" has so many meanings that it's practically meaningless.

So, people trying to be successful usually find that whatever goals they set for themselves don't bring any happiness.

I think, it's more important to "chase" happiness. Then you have higher chance of achieving it.
    .
For me, happiness is what you feel when your life is in balance between freedom, work and relationships.

It seems to me that those three replace each other. The more freedom you have, less work you can do, more work you have, less relationships(no time to meet friends, for example) and freedom you have. More relationships you have, less freedom and work you can have.

    Damn, looks very vague.

Your point of view is well taken. It is sometimes confusing to think of success. But as you and others have right said, everything whether success, freedom etc boil down to happiness. After all whats the use of all he success and freedom in the world when you are not able to enjoy them.

All said and done, I feel the bottom line is when you are able to get the freedom to do what you love to do and at the same time feel happy about the time that you are engaged with the 'objects' of your love, then you can call yourself successful!

Agree with you. Everyone is different - different people has different mindsets and priorities in life. Thus, it is normal that people defines successful differently. Being able to follow your heart and achieve your own desires is achieving success Sadly, most people follow the system and ignore their hearts.

I used to think "Success = $$MONEY$$". Now I realized that you could be making all the money in the world, but if you're not happy with the way you're making the money and you don't have the freedom to enjoy the money you're making, it won't truly feel like you're successful.

success = ..what you want it to..you express your freedom by defining what success mean for you ..

what success mean to you ..will probably be very different than most other people..

the problem comes in when you try to adopt pre made views of success ..or need other people to agree that you are sucessful..

if you have a million dollars in assets but your wife gets sick of you working 10 hours plus a day seven days a week ..so she divorces you an take more than half with her ..

very few peopl want real freedom they want a more comfortable human experience ..someone try=uly free has no need to look successful .

some after freedom ..might live in a small house on a couple acres of land ..growing most or all of their own foon..and livening off grid..not trying to build a huge business or make a million dollars .
