It's Not You....It's Me

This is my statement to every shiny object, money making program, and software package I have purchased over the years.

I have come to the realization, that no matter what I try, the determining factor for success is ME. All the programs out there work to some extent. They may not live up to the promises made to sell it to me, but they can, and do, work for some.

I could make all the normal excuses, like I work 60+ hours a week at my job, I have a family, I have other fires that need attention, all of which is true.

But the bottom line is that it all boils down to ME.

I am not saying this because I am making a commitment to succeed no matter what.
I am not saying this because I want someone to do something for me.

I am saying this because I just don't know if I have what it takes to be successful with IM.

Success to me is different than success to others. For me it would be to make enough money to pay off my mortgage and student loan in the next 5 years. For others it may be $1k a month, or $1-million a year.

It isn't that I have trouble 'doing' the things required, although motivation is difficult when time is limited.....no, it is because I just lack the faith required to press on after days, weeks, or even months, of no results. I imagine the program working for others, but never am able to see myself reaching the same levels of success.

What is wrong with me? I have a Masters Degree in Finance from a top 20 school in the nation. I have a job that pays well above the national average for someone in my age group. Yet I can't seem to make $20 online.

Thanks for listening to me rant about a thought I had.

Scott

Selling online is the same thing as selling offline. Do you even know the basics of selling?

Making money online is very easy. Find a product which is already selling and drive traffic to it. What's complicated in that?

    Go to Clickbank.
    Create an account
Find a product with high gravity and go to its affiliate page
Go to Bing ads and sing up
Take the keywords from the products affiliate page and insert in bing
    Make sales..

Super simple. What's hard is building a long term business, a brand. What are you trying to do?

    Cheers,

    C.G.

Hey Scott, you're right that the determining factor in your success is you; that's a great attitude to have because it makes you accountable to yourself. Most of the time we focus too much on the problem and not the solution. What it sounds like to me is that you're getting a bit burnt out espcially after not seeing much success for your time. That's understandable, it's hard to keep pushing on when you have no tangible results. I think one problem a lot of people have with online marketing is that they jump from one shiny method to another and never really take the time to focus on one thing and make it work.
Go and choose one method that calls to you, just focus one that one method and keep working at it until it works for you. It probably won't be easy at first but keep your great attitude and get over the hurdles as they come up and don't jump ship. Do this and you will be in the top minority of action takers who actually follow through and succeed.

@CG - The process of selling online is 'simple', but not easy - there is a difference. Find a great product that has high gravity - up to this step, easy......now just sell it......not so easy for some.

Let me try to give you an example: Come do my job and I will say, just process the invoice and enter the ACH payment made by the bank - it is simple. There are about 10 steps for each of those tasks, and get one wrong, you won't balance on the bank reconciliation, not necessarily easy, especially for someone who might just be starting out.

You did however ask a question "What are you trying to do?" - I think that rung a bell with me - I really need to clarify the answer to that even though I have a pretty good idea, and a plan.

@ PrueFusion - I think what you said explains my situation very well....I am getting burned out, with my job, as well as IM (and not seeing results)....But I haven't been jumping from one thing to another. I have chosen and have narrowed my plan.

I hesitate to say I have narrowed my 'focus' because it seems I can't even think straight when I sit down to work, get frustrated, lose focus, stop working. Then when I look back, I see a wasted hour. I also think that since I have what I consider a very good paying job, I don't have the 'hunger' I need to drive myself. I think overall, it is the faith in myself and the plan I have that is lacking. I sort of know what I need to be doing, but never really feel that even if I do what I need to, that results will come.

It is all a matter of background - I can handle all aspects of high level finance for the company I work for because I have experience. If I were asked to go sell my company's product, I don't think that I would do a very good job.

Overall, I suppose that I have 2 problems.
    1. Not being able to focus on the task at hand
    2. Not having a strong enough 'why' to push myself forward.

It seems to stem from a lack of faith. I have a hard time borrowing from the future (as Tony Robbins would say) to do the things now so I can end up where I want.

    Thanks for your replies,
    SS

Taking 100% responsibility for your results and outcomes in life is (in my opinion) an important part of the success process. It's not always easy, however it can be amazingly empowering because you're completely in control of what happens in your life and where you're going.

As W Clement Stone said: "You can create and uncreate anything at will." So congratulations for taking responsibility Scottie. : ) Now go out and create what's important to you.

@ Johnathon 2.0 - Thanks for recognizing that I am blaming no one but myself. Call it lack of confidence, low self esteem, lack of faith, information overload, or whatever else.....the bottom line is I own my results and I am the only one that can change them.

Hard to do when the overwhelming belief that everything you are doing to create your business is for zero results...(that is what I have seen in the past)...and I can't seem to stay focused enough to get things done.

If it was easy you wouldn't appreciate it.

These "challenging" experiences in business (and in life) are there to make us grow, evolve, and become a stronger version of ourselves,

It's not always easy, however it's always worth it. : )
