Talking to yourself positively is underrated. I can't count how many people I've told off for saying something like "I'm so stupid!" when they make a mistake. I'm sure we've all done it. My rule of thumb is if you wouldn't let someone else say it to you don't say it to yourself.

Talking to yourself positively starts with positive thinking. Positive thinking rarely comes naturally for us, so one technique I use is Affirmations. Affirmations are positive sentences you write and read to yourself daily. For example "I get better looking every day."

If you aren't comfortable talking to yourself out loud start by doing it every day on the way to work, in the shower or whenever you are alone.

You are absolutely correct OP. Positive words have the power to change our attitude and create good things in our life. I personally believe in this and I make sure to practice what I preach especially when faced with difficulties. I always say “I can make it” whenever I am in difficult situation. I don’t easily give up and I’m not fast to take on negative thoughts.

    Yeah read this quote:
Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.

Right, being in "judgement mode" is not very resourceful state of mind. State of curiosity is much better.

I have this affirmation of sorts that I got from my dad. Whenever he gets a a contract from a company, he would never forget to mention these words afterwards.

"Nothing's ever easy." The words began to have weight as I grew older.

Positive thinking and speaking can be very beneficial but it has to become a daily discipline and then it will turn into a habit. From there you can literally change your life from a simple discipline such using more positive words in your everyday conversation and when you talk to yourself.

Trey is very right! I love neuroplasticity..The quintessential book on the subject of self talk would be "What to say when you talk to yourself" by Dr. Shad Helmstetter.. Go grab yourself a copy!! Also been reading shad's latest book.."the power of neuropasticity"..INCREDIBLE!! Our brains actually change shape over time when we talk to ourselves and give positive affirmations to the subconscious mind.. our minds only understand what we tell it..it picks it up as a FACT if their is enough emotion behind our words.. whether your saying it to yourself or someone is saying it to you..if someone says your stupid..the bain will still take that in..if its from someone you love the emotion attached is much greater and harder to remove.. thought that was interesting and wanted to share..

Also great video post by "The Niche Man" I will have to check that out for sure!
And Trey..you hit the nail on the head dude!!

If you use negative self talk on a daily basis and expect good results, you are bound to fail.

You just need to write positive words and sentences about yourself and read it a few times every single day. You can brain wash yourself to success.

One book I do recommend you read is called:

What to say when you talk to yourself.
