It can be tough not to have negative thoughts and emotions.

Never mind that they are cascading around your head.

No need to ignore, worry or be vexed by them.

Just do this ONE thing.

Do NOT verbalise them.

And guess what happens.

They lose their sting, start to shrink and given a bit of time virtually disappear.

It makes your life a lot easier.

P.S. So you might be thinking it's easier said than done.

Aha, remember don't say it.

Bit a bullet or your tongue and try it for a week.

"Despite the negative thoughts I will not speak them"

If you like post what happened.

True. Verbalizing your thoughts reinforces them. You have to re-train your mind and not giving voice to negative thoughts helps with that.

This not only helps you, but it makes other peoples' day.

I like to go a step further and replace it with words of strength and confidence, both to myself and others.

Then those feelings don't just disappear, they're replaced with a state of optimism, positive expectation, and empowerment.

  • When you start practising this you often fall into what psychologists call the "negativity bias."

Worry not, it's often a default position. Up to 95% of people do it. More so in the UK than the USA.

And if you do it, just finish by putting a positive slant on what you have just said.

Keep doing this and you and your neurons discover and actually love to be positive.

Absolutely agree. I couldn't have put it better myself. Thank you both!
