How do you know if you deserve success?

Will people have a better chance at success if they feel like they deserve it?

And what if you don't feel like you deserve success, how do you change that?

    Hi bleu,

There is a common theme that if you think about it
hard enough, dream about long enough it will eventually
    happen for you.

I guess the idea is that you will start doing what
you've been thinking about, assuming you are an action
    taker.

Everyone deserves success. Not everyone is prepared to
    work for it.

    Are you my friend?

Stay positive and enjoy yourself in whatever you do.

    cheers, Mal.

Hey Bleu, you've asked a great question and in my experience yes, those that believe they deserve success are the ones that tend to achieve success. There is so much that goes into the psychology of this: the roots of your beliefs, successful thinking and mental imagery among many other things.
There is an excellent book by T. Harv Eker called Secrets of the Millionaire Mind that dives into these issues and is quite enlightening. You may be interested to give it a read if you're looking for some deeper answers to your questions.

Many left dead bodies and shattered lives behind them on their way to success. Did they think they achieved and deserved success? Obviously, yes. When you make a positive difference, not just in your life, but, also, in the lives of others, that's what should be called a success.

The terms 'feeling' and 'deserving' don't mesh well with success.

It is not of much consequence whether one 'feels' if they deserve success or not.

Also, it doesn't matter much if we feel we 'deserve' something or not.

The laws and principles of achieving success are true and have remained the same since the dawn of civilization.

Have a good plan, be prepared to work your tail off, sprinkle in some luck, and voila you 'acquire' success.

You acquire success after having put in the necessary amount of hard work that's needed to achieve your goals.

This is regardless whether someone else 'feels' you 'deserved' that success or not.

If you want something bad in life, go ahead and get it. Work hard, keep it simple, and success will usually knock on your doorstep.

If you put in all the work, yet you did not achieve your goal (whether you felt you were deserving or not), simply accept the outcome.

Many times what seems like failure is an opportunity to learn more and a preparation phase for bigger success down the road.

Most importantly, as long as you are working smart, never give up after one or two failures. Stay the course and you will bounce back in a big way from all the learning you acquired during the process.

Persistence seems to be the big factor that separates serial-winners from the also-rans.

it really depend on what your definition of "deserve" is

many people who feel they deserve something ..are waiting for others to agree and give it to them..

then other who feel the deserve something ..take action to get it..so when others question why they have what they have .. they explain..i do this this and this ..

now when you believe ..that stuff you deserve need to come from others ..you also place what is bad that happen on others as well ..

if you understand your part in what you get..you ubnderstand there is an effect you can have on both good and bad thing that happen in your life ..

It about less of things happening to you..and more you playing a part in events..al the world is a stage ..

you play a part in this world.. you may not get what you feel you deserve ..but you get what you get according to the part you play

That is a self-contradicting statement. Obviously, if someone is not willing to work hard to attain success, they in no way deserve it.

That's a deep question when you think about it. Personally, I don't think it's a requirement to think you deserve success. Just click on the T.V and watch the parade of "no talent" people who enjoy staggering success. he, he .. ever "tried" to watch The Kardashian's, for example.

I don't believe you need to feel you deserve success to achieve it. But I do believe you have to believe you deserve success to keep it.

The one's who don't feel they deserve success are the tragic stories we read about. For example, the celebrities, athletes and politicians who self-sabotage there careers, reputation and even marriages for stupid temptations. Plus, the many lottery winners, which over 60% to 80% end up broke after 5 years.

The absolute best way to feel you deserve success if you don't have it is - drumroll please.... Hard Work! Yes, there maybe other ways ... but there's never been a better or more predictable way.

This is how I think of it: We all think we deserve something. Oppressed workers think they deserve higher salaries, feminists think they deserve equality, etc... And there's nothing wrong with that. On contrary, your determination and your mindset is a really important factor when it comes to accomplishing your goals. But what distinguishes a successful person is not only their mindset but also their hard work and willingness to do something. You can have all the mindset you want, read as many motivating quotes as you wish, but if you don't actually start doing something, then you my friend are wasting your time.

Being "deserving" of success and high self-esteem go hand in hand (IMO.)

People with low self-esteem don't believe they deserve success and even prevent themselves from accomplishing what's important to them.

(I know because I used to have low self-esteem …)

People with high self-esteem however believe they "deserve" all the great things in life.

God has not put you on this earth to fail.

We all deserve to succeed but those who:

Speak it, visualize it, take massive action, and never give up are the ones that will succeed.

Those who do fail do the opposite:

They speak negative, they see themselves as a failure, they don't want to invest their time and money, and they quit at the first sign of defeat.

The way I see it is yes, if we feel like we deserve success, (1) chances are we will work harder to achieve it, thus have better chance at success.

One way to feel like you deserve success is by working hard in the first place.. spending a great deal of time on your work. Then, you will automatically feel like you should be successful due to your hardwork.. It's then leads back to (1) and is a cycle till you achieve success.

whether you feel like you deserve success or not makes no difference. you think mark zuckerberg feels like he deserves billions of dollars for a few months of coding, while a billion indians code for a decade and make pennies?

if you dont feel like you deserve success, do something else

Oh, many people believe they deserve everything just for the fact they are born. Others believe they don't no matter how hard they work. Just a matter of values and beliefs.

That's a very important question, Bleu. Many people self-sabotage because deep inside they don't believe they deserve something or that something is ever possible.

The common "therapy" in these cases is being as thoughtful as you can. Third perceptual position (imagine you are an alien scientist who cares about the truth, not about the outcome) may also help.

Ask as many questions about your goal and beliefs about it as you can. What exactly your goal is? Just "a million bucks" is no good. You must ask "what exactly do I want to do with million bucks"?

Case may be, deep inside you believe you will drink, take drugs and do all sorts of other things you may (subconsciously) believe "high life" guys do...

Such a way of analysis, until every bit of your goal is in peace with your true beliefs and values. Guess you got the idea... if not, I am always here.

We all deserve success, cause we exist. You and I, and everybody on this forum are good people. We help each other, share our knowledge and cheer each other up during taugh times. However it has nothing to do with deserving.

If somebody told you "you don't deserve to breathe", you will laugh at his face! The reason you breathe is because you are here and you exist. And that's it. It has nothing to do with deserving.

It's the same with love. You deserve to be loved, because you exist. Period.

I'm getting it. That is the truth. It's not whether you deserve it or not, it's whether you BELIEVE that you deserve it or not.

So the trick is believing, or KNOWING that you deserve it (combined with a good plan that you put into action and all that).

I think I deserve success but I may have doubts deep down or maybe I am afraid.

Why would a person fear success?

Most common reason is unconscious or semi-conscious belief that success will make your life worse. I'm very serious here.

Try and test yourself: imagine your success and write down every doubt you may have in mind associated with it. That will reveal the negative associations you have.

Then, as you know them, you can fix them.

      P. S. Examples are: "if I have money, gangsters come and kidnap my daughter". "If I have money I can start drinking or taking drugs". "If I have money my friends may abandon me". "If I get successful in business it will take up all my time". "If I get successful, business will require huge responsibility from me". You got the idea. Find those within yourself and you'll be half-way to the ultimate solution of the problem.

I strongly believe that the biggest reason is that a person who fears success doesn't see the whole path in his mind. Like a step-by-step blueprint. When you're not sure, when you can't connect all the dots in your mind. You start thinking "but what will I do if this happens, or that..." . When in reality you don't have to know everything in advance, nobody knows and still accomplish wonderful things.

Also, being overwhelmed with work. In order to move from 10k to 100k you have to work harder, longer, aquire new skills and every new skill is hard to develop.

People begin to procrastinate then try to perfect every detail (not possible) and eventually give up.

Just set a goal and work on it, no matter what.

IT guys has this saying: "Just go and write a damn code!"

I believe that if you don't believe you deserve something, you won't see the opportunities presented to you, or even if you do, you'll be skeptical, you won't believe you can do it, you'll do it half-assed and, as a result, you won't succeed.
