Is this one of the MOST important quote yet? Agree or Disagree?

This is one of the most inspiring quote which helped me greatly in life and work EVER

The first time I found this Quote

I first stumbled upon this quote when I was in my teens, it struck me hard as I wasn't getting results in my studies even after trying hard to study. After I read this quote, I realized that it's not "trying to study" that gets the results, it's how and what to study that gets results.

Scores in studies improved by 2 grades from then. A change in mindset and study patterns.

This quote helped in my work

After many years in work, I stumbled across this quote again. I was struck again and it gave a jolt up the spine as results in work wasn't that fantastic. It's not "trying to work" that gets the results, it's how and what to work at that gets results.

Double promotions within the same month. Again the change in mindset and work patterns.

This quote helped in my business

As I ventured out in business, I stumbled again onto this quote while doing some research. It's like a crane just smacked the chained cannon ball onto my head, speechless and painful as the results in business wasn't as great as wished upon. It's not "trying to get business to work" and "fire-fighting" that gets the results, it's how and what to work in to get the profits in that gets the results.

Over the years, millions in sales were made and also consulted very fast rising internet businesses. Again, it's the change in mindset and business systems patterns.

What can this quote do for you?

So what's the quote that helped so much in my life? Here it is.

"Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing."

― Thomas A. Edison (inventor)

Man that is great stuff man truly appreciate that, I never heard of this quote before. I think in modern term he is saying find and focus on the highest priority things and do those in a effective way. Because many of us suffer from info overload so finding what makes you the most valuable and focusing on that is key.

It's a good quote, however Edison's ethics were pretty questionable. It's always hard for me to take a quote seriously when I don't respect the person who said it.

I believe the abridge version goes like this:

    "activity doesn't always equal productivity"

I heard that one from many managers I worked under throughout the years.

In short, I would be fired if I didn't produce, no matter how active I seemed to be.

Nailed it, so many folks have this perception like they are busy or successful just because they are busy through the week!

  • It's worth to quote that another quote by Edison that strikes a chord with many is this

There is no substitute for hard work.

Some people do remark that smart work can replace hard work, it's not exactly wrong but we have to look at the context of what it means to derive the virtue.

I imagine "hard work" refers more akin to doing the work that needs to be done, get things done even if there's obstacles along the way and unexpected things that interrupt. If there's a better way to doing it the smart way, that's a great bonus.
