How to work 100 hours a week!

First, find something INTERESTING to do.

Then, have a really fast internet connection and nice SMARTPHONE
(And learn how to do almost all your work on it.)

Finally, bring your phone EVERYWHERE you go
(Home, office, breakfast, lunch, dinner, dates, toilet and just the final moments before you sleep.)

Note: Bring your phone charger and portable chargers everywhere with extra batteries.

Why not? minecraft players do it on Youtube. There are some COC youtubers as well who show their tactics.

I was being facetious. But I'll take a stab at it.

Minecraft offers a ton of different game modes (creative, survival, Hunger Games, the Walls, etc.). CoC is just...well just a strategy builder. Not as easy to be comedic/creative in a limited world compared to a game like a Minecraft or GTAV.

See, that's where you do not understand what the point is.
Don't think you did, either. My interpretation was "I don't want to spend my life looking at a phone screen".

To each his own. I love sitting on the beach - spent a lot of years doing that for a while almost every day. That's 'relax/reflect/play with the dog' time.

I have no desire to work 100 hrs a week or anywhere close to that. I like my creature comforts of electricity (a/c), running water, hot showers, indoor plumbing and a nice kitchen to cook in.

You found your niche in being a "beach character" - wearing sequin gowns and kimonos on the beach - I like bathing suits so I can swim. You drive a car that screams "look at me" - and I don't care for that sort of attention from people. To each his own.

I agree with getting paid to do something you love - or at least 'like' - but a Maine beach in winter doesn't appeal to me in the least.

Don't assume those who have no desire to work 60-100 hrs a week are stuck in jobs - many of us prefer to work less and spend our time doing more than working.

To me, the idea of having a smart phone in my hand every waking hour is a description of hell - and that was the OP's suggestion.

Thanks GGpaul Yes, more done with better efficiency.
Getting 100 hours of work done in 20 is cool, now there is the choice to produce 5 times as much if we want to. Nice thought

One with a touch screen and wifi should be functional enough for most of us.
For graphics, a bigger screen will be easier to make smaller photo edits. Used to have 2 phones, the smaller one for writing and coding, the bigger one for photos and videos edit.

I don't think I have ever hit 100 hours but regularly I work 50 or more hours. That said, I might go to a concert or a wine tasking and network while I'm there. There are ways to do fun things that involve work too. Since my business is largely online, I especially look for ways to make money doing things offline too.

Only for people who are inefficient. Of course there are exceptions.

Hi Jonathan, I know some gamers youtubers who put in many hours to quality videos (some of them full time / some part time) to monetize on the ads share revenue. It does take many views to churn up some decent return though.

Boom Beach is popular enough. Tips and strategy score well. Common to see COC and BB videos in the same channel to supp each other

Agree with you on this mrgoe. Many of us are too used to work that the change from "work" to "free" when retired breeds an empty space pretty fast.

For those who have had mini-retirements may say that the dreams and hopes they dreamt of are usually short termed and most of them are fulfilled within a few months of their "free" time.

I average 60 to 80 hours a week. If I could make it 100 hours a week I'd be in Heaven.

    Why? This says it all:

I love what I do. It's fun to do. I've did it for the fun of doing it for years, only years ago, I had no time to do it because I had to go to work...now I get paid to do what I love and because I no longer have to go to work for money, I can just do what I love all day long.

Basically that is what I have done. I've retired from "working" and now just get paid to have fun. Thus why I can "work" 60 to 80 hours a week and then say: "Hey, I wonder what I can get rid of so that I'll have time to work 100 hours a week instead of just 80?"

Originally Posted by JonathanGutierrez View Post

If you don't want to work 100 hours doing your career, then you are in the wrong career for you. Find a thing you love to do so much that you could do it 100 hours a week, wither you get paid to do it or not, and then find a way for that thing to make money for you so that you CAN do the thing you love 100 hours a week. That's the real secret to success in my mind.

For me, success isn't about the money. It's about taking the thing you love to do most of all and turning it into your income, so that you are able to totally immerse yourself in doing the thing you love as much as you want.

I also do not have electricity, running water, sewer/septic, a phone, or a TV. Which is a lot of the reason behind WHY I have so much free time to work (or should I say: get paid to play?) I guess I just don't understand the allure of having those things.

Originally Posted by EPoltrack77 View Post

See, that's where you do not understand what the point is.

Yes, your time is important. That's the point. So WHY are you wasting time doing a 30 to 40 hour a week job that you hate and find a drudgery to do, when you COULD be doing a 100 hour a week job of getting paid to do the things you REALLY WANT to do?

You say your time is important: why? Make a list of the things that you find MOST important. What do you WANT to do with you time? Then take that list and start finding ways for those things to make money so that you are free to do them as often as you want.

Do you want to work less so you can spend time traveling with your family? Did you know you can travel with your family and get paid to do it? I know one family who quite their jobs, sold their house, pulled their kids out of school, bought a motorhome, and then spend nearly a decade doing nothing but traveling to famous sites of historic value all over the country. To fund this "hobby" they wrote "homeschool" books about how to travel across the country and give your kids a better education then they would have gotten in school.

They were upset that their jobs did not allow them the time to do the things they wanted to do, so they quit their jobs and just went out and DID the things they wanted to do and found a way to make it pay. Now they can drive all over the country, see all the things they want to see, and spend 100 hours each week getting paid to have fun traveling with their family.

THAT is the point of the concept of working 100 hour weeks.

It's not about throwing yourself into a boring, drudgery, scheduled job --- it's about getting rid of that boring drudgery job and finding a way to do WHATEVER YOU WANT and get paid to do it.

    What do I do?

I write and I build art cars and I travel in a motorhome full-time and I grow roses and I live on a beach. And I get paid to do it.

I bought myself a thing called an Acecad Digi-Memo. It's a digital clipboard with a digital pen. You clip a regular pad of paper to it and you start writing. Longhand, short hand, print, italic, cursive...it doesn't matter. You just start writing. You write and write and write. I write 20 to 60 pages a day: while sitting on the beach. Maine's beautiful 7 miles long white sand Old orchard Beach. I sit and listen to the waves and watch the kids playing, the police on their 6 wheel amphibians chasing divers off the Pier, the surfers catching waves, the seagulls stealing hot dogs, smell the pier fries with vinegar, cotton candy, and pizza cooking off the median strip. Watch the ferris wheel and merry go round spin. Hear the teenagers screaming from the rollercoaster, and I'm still writing and writing and writing. I'm sitting on my ass, relaxing in the sun, sand and surf, lazily working my ass off sipping slushies and eating ice cream cones and cotton candy for 60 to 80 hour a week.

When it gets too dark to see to write on my pads of paper anymore, I sit and watch the sunset and the lovers ******* each other in public on the beach. Then I walk the few steps it takes to get back to my beach front yard, jump into my big green motorhome, and here's the best part:

I plug my DigiMemo into the computer, and I go to bed, while my computer spends the night typing up everything I wrote that day, so that I don't have to.

OOOOH! Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE my Digi-Memo? I am no longer stuck at the computer! I can write longhand on the beach ALL DAY LONG, EVERY SINGLE DAY, ALL YEAR LONG and it types everything I wrote, even if I write in shitty unreadable cursive. It's AMAZING! The DigiMemo is the best thing I've ever bought.

Then the next rainy day, when I can't spend all day on the beach, I do my editing, formatting, and publish it on Kindle.

Here's a picture of me in my "office" This is where I work, all day long:

Yes, I am wearing a 200 year old wedding kimono embroidered with real gold, on the beach on a hot August day. Why? Because by working 60 to 80 hours a week doing what I love, I can afford to do whatever the hell I want to do. You should see the pink sequined ballgowns I wear on the beach. Oh, I stick out like a sore thumb being the freaked out Disney princess floating around between all those speedo wearing tourists. But hey, I don't like wearing bathing suits and I do like wearing ball gowns and kimon, and there's no rule that says I can't wear them every day. And I'm all about doing the thing you want to o, and that's the thing I want to do.

And marketing my books is so much fun. I just park my car on the beach and start handing out business cars to everyone who stops to ask about my car. Here's my car (and my house):

and a zoomed in close up so you can see what it looks like up close:

Ask me again why so many people flock to get my business cards? They are just dying to shake hands with the local insane drag queen and her crazy pimped out car. Did you know, that coming to Old Orchard Beach hoping to get a glimpse of me or my car, is a "thing" now. People come from all over the country and wander around the town with a camera and asking the locals: "Where's EelKat? Does anybody know where she lives? I came all the way from Alaska to see her."

I'm not famous for my books, half the people that come here say they didn't realize I was an author. No. I'm famous for being me. Being me, is what pays the bills.

I spend my days doing whatever the hell I want to.

Did I mention I average 60 to 80 hours a week and if I could make it 100 hours a week I'd be in Heaven? I think I did.

Live your dream, Honey. Make it a reality. Don't focus on the money. Focus on doing what you love, and you'll find a way to make the money come. It always does. Forget the money, follow the dream, and you WILL succeed, and before you know it, you'll be working 100 hour weeks, but it'll feel like 100 hours of play and you'll love it and you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Honey, that's because you have no idea what it means. You are thinking about it all wrong.

Go where your heart is, because that's where you are gonna reap the rewards.

I know a lot of people misunderstand me, when I tell them to do what I do. When I say that, I'm not telling you to write weird fiction and build art cars. I do those things because I can't not do those things. I love doing them. When I say do what I do, what I mean, is look inside your heart and find the thing that you enjoy doing. What is it that you want to do? what is the one thing that you would do no matter what? If you had all the time and money in the world and you had nothing to worry about, what is the one thing, you would do? Figure out what that thing is, and just do it. Throw caution to the wind and do it. Do it all day long. Do it day after day. Immerse yourself in it. Live it. Breath it. Become it. Once you've done that, it'll open your eyes to all the ways you can keep doing it for the rest of your life and get paid to do it too.

I don't promote that you should write.

I don't promote that you should publish on Kindle.

I promote that you should follow your heart and do the thing that you love doing. Do what makes you happy. Do what brings joy into your life.

I spend my days doing whatever the hell I want to and I find ways to make those things bring in money, so that I am able to keep on doing them as much as I want and THAT is what I promote.

Granted I'm a little more extreme then most, because, well, most people don't want to be a drag queen and drive a rhinestone car or live in a neon pink and lime green motorhome. But, that's my dream. That's what I want to do. And I wanted to do it while living on a beach and growing roses. And, I do all those things. I'm living my strange technicolour dream.

And you can live your dream too. No matter what it is. Whatever you want to do. You can do it.

If you want to cook, cook up a storm. Just cook and cook and cook and become the best damned cook in your town. Before you know it, you'll be thinking up ways to make that cooking pay your bills.

If you like jogging, then jog! Just do it. Keep doing it. Perfect it. And while you're doing it, think of way to make jogging pay the bills.

Hey, I'm a beach bum. I like sitting on the beach. I'll take any excuse to sit my ass on the beach and not damn thing all day long. And guess what? That's what I did. I just went to the beach and sat there people watching, because that' what I like doing. And one day I thought: You know, people sure do strange things down here on the beach. There should be a book about it. And then I got to think, heck, I should write a book about it. And then I thought, damn, I should just start writing down everything I see people doing out here. And so I did, and the next thing I knew, I was writing stories about people who lived on the beach and did crazy things. Yeah. that's how I got started.

And yep, that IS why every one of my stories is set on the beach or one the coast just off a beach. It's why in every single story I write, you read descriptions of gulls screaming in the background. Characters will be walking in the forest and see gulls over head and hear the crashing surf and they know they are near the coast. EVERY BOOK I've ever written has that in it, BECAUSE I am sitting on the beach while writing that book.

I didn't set out to become a writer. I set out to sit on the beach. And by just doing what I wanted to do (sit on the beach) I was able to think up a way to make it (sitting on the beach) a full time income.

So in essance, my job is not writing, my job is sitting on the beach and getting paid to do it. And THAT is what it means to work a 100 hour week.

I live my dream, but it didn't happen over night. And it wasn't easy to get here. And it's not easy to stay here either. The tourists love me, but the locals...hey, I came home April 10, 2015 to find feces, more then a foot deep, covering every inch of the floors of my 22' foot motorhome. One the table, walls, windows, they smashed everything, ripped the door off, tore out the fixtures, they stripped my motorhome down to nothing and then filled with gallons and gallons of sewage... and my ten cats had their heads beaten in. I've been in court for weeks over it. And guess who did it, now that we know. The town manager paid two public works men $1,487 to do this. That came out in court. I have copies of the receipts.

And last October 2014, I came home to find garbage, actual bagged from the dump, dumped in my yard - garbage 12' feet tall, 175' feet long, and 30' wide. The next day the town manager repossessed my land, claiming that the garbage had been there for years, and demanded that I pay the town 12,000 cash ransom, to get my land back, and only if I first removed all the garbage.

I used to have a house you know. I keep rebuilding. Let's 3 houses have been accidently run over by a town owned public works backhoe and one was blown up by a grease fryer bom, that the police took into evidence and lost.

Oh, yeah, its not been easy to live my life the way I want to. I have to fight to live like this. I'm still fighting. I'm not white, and I'm transgendered, and this is Maine, Americas 99.9% white state.

I've had to put up with a lot of hate and prejudice, because I dare to be the real me. I follow my dreams, but I have to fight every day to keep them, which includes guarding my land with a shotgun and carrying a machete, because this is the boonies of Maine and around here, if you ain't armed, you ain't safe. I live my dream, but I'm also willing to fight for that dream, that's something a lot of people online don't realize. A lot of people think I just did this and everything was hunky-dory. No. I've had to fight claw and fang every step of the way to get where I am and I have to keep fighting to stay here.

Ask yourself, how bad do you want your dream? How far are you willing to go to get it? For me, getting where I am today, that was important to me. It was never about the money. It made money, not at first, but it does now. It didn't happen overnight, me reaching my goals and turning doing what i love into an income, and I've had a lot of opposition along the way and still have opposition, but I believe in my dreams and I fight for my right to follow them.

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, for tomorrow you may be dying. Seize the day, boys, seize the day.

That's my motto, that's why I named my motorhome "Rosebud"

Do the things you WANT to do, and do them now, because you may not have tomorrow.

That is why I do not waste my time working at jobs, I don't like. That is why I took, the things I enjoy doing and found ways for them to make money, so that I am now able to do them 100 hours a week.

Working a 100 hour week has nothing to do with working and everything to do with taking the thing you love to do and making it bring in an income so that you NEVER have to work again and you can just spend 100 hours a week doing what you love and watching it pay the bills.

Cheers! I got me a beach to it go sit on and tourists doing crazy things so I can write about it and get paid and town officials to sue and write about that too so I can pay for the lawyers and court fees. Got a busy week of beach sitting ahead of me.

Forget working 100 hours a week. I work hard so that I can enjoy life, but with 68 hours of free time a week left, I would rather be working a 9 - 5 at that point. Studies have shown that after working 40+ hours a week, productivity levels drop dramatically.

In terms of IM, what exactly occurs during those 100 hours?

As a writer, I know that after 8 - 10 hours of writing, I start typing like a two year old and can barely spell.

Exactly...we are not like robots where our productivity increases linearly with the amount of hours worked.

Even if we were going to be working that long, we'd have to be very cognizant of what we were doing and switch tasks appropriately so that we wouldn't be doing something repetitive for hours on end, because that would just be a recipe for burn out and grossly decreased productivity.

You should do what you enjoy so it doesn't feel like work then the longer hours are easy. In saying that 100 hours is un-necessary, be more efficient. There will be a point of diminishing returns where you become counter productive. Work hard but go and enjoy your life, there is more to life than just work!

I like to work, but 100 hours is way to much for me. There are many ways to leverage time to your advantage to get more done in less time. A few might be.....

      - Work 40 and outsource 60 hours.

      - Join an MLM and recruit 10 people who work 10 hours a week.

      - Since the Internet never sleeps your websites are working for you 24 hours a day.

it really depends what you classify as work.. that is where really enjoying what you do comes in ,,

now there may be times when you have spurts of activity and need to put in a lot of hours ..but building a business that requires 100 hours a week week after week..

honestly..gaming has been mentioned..and i have put 100 hours into some games in a week a couple weeks in a row..but it useually gets followed by a dramatic cut in play time for a few weeks after and sometime halting of gaming for a few months ..

now .. there are a few business i want to get going..but they all share qualities and can be stacked ..one producing something that makes the other better ..

when i set several of the things up it mat require large numbers of hours ..but those hours are spent to reduce the time needed for day to day production ..

in business as the owner ..you do not and should not get paid by the number of hours you work.. but by the amount you produce or the value you add ..and to many hours could translate into lower quality ..and a drop of in total production..

why work 100 hours if you produce garbage half the time because you are spent and exausted ..
unless you are doing it to stroke your own ego .. and tell people you work sdo hard ..

now it is easy to put somthing togeth where you can work 10 hours a day 6 days a week ..

but there is a good reason..that it is a commandment to put at least 1 day a week aside for rest ..and it is higher on the list ..than not lieing ..stealing sleeping with your neighbors wife ..and other social ills ..

To me, the idea of having a smart phone in my hand every waking hour is a description of hell - and that was the OP's suggestion.
lol. Cheers bro. Very good points made
Does go to a matter of preference and even these do change from time to time at different stages of life. Ahhh...phone at the beach while relaxing, agree, no way! haha

every business has busy periods and down periods ..so yes there may be times of the year where you may push 60 80 or 100 hours ..but this is fine when you are sucking the opportunity out of the rush points of the year .

but if you are doing 60 plus hours a week during low points ..chances are you are filling that with really low value small profit margin stuff ..and if you can put this off to the side for the more valuable stuff that hits at peak times ..or you burn yourself out and don't have the energy to add the hours .

In order to work 20 hours per week, you first need to work a lot more than that.

Alexander, it is somehow of a good advice but you're in a field where instant gratification primes. Where people don't want to work, they want the results to come on their own.

I don't understand how using a mobile phone actually boosts productivity (not even using a BlackBerry can't replace the convenience of a computer - I've tried it, with a tablet, BlackBerry, iPhone) but I understand where you are going with this.

100 hours per week is a bit too much though. I believe that after the 45 - 50 hour limit, the person will start to burn out and remember, it is not all about the work. It is also about health, family, education, friendship, romantic relationships, etc.

But yes, there is a reason why people like Elon Musk are where they are right now. And apart from their more or less obvious genius, it is the hard work and dedication they've put in.

Just like folks will find ways to rationalize why they are overweight ... why they are broke ... why they are divorced ... so they'll find ways to rationalize why they should NOT work hard. 40 hours per week should be a minimum no matter if you are just starting out or if you are running a Fortune 500 company.

Great point made! Opportunity out of rush points of the year.
More hours during Christmas to sell greeting cards is logical while doing so during off-festive seasons is less so.

Thank you RogozRazvan for reading through and I appreciate that you have taken the time to look at both sides of the table.

For Elon Musk, I imagine his drive comes from his end in mind goal and ultimate meaning in life . It's a worthwhile goal while would take nothing less than full efforts to achieve it. His photographic memory helps

Agree, different people with different goals will have varying choices in what hours is logical and feasible. Kudos!

How to work 100 hours a week?

That's SMALL. The fact is, you can work up to 168 hours per week and this is possible! So how could this be? By way of a 'round the clock businesses system that serves as surrogate to your working hours. A system that acts like a virtual money tree that's working 24-7 for you but without you actually doing it. It may requires a bit of maintenance but you own most of your time to freely spend to anything you want. These business systems are affiliate marketing, e-commerce (non-physical product), internet marketing among others.

Yes i would love to work 100 hours a week only if i do what i want and if only i have my own business and i know that if i invest more time in my business i will get more in return. But, everyone wants to work fewer hours and make more money. Why work 100 hours, if you can work 6 or 8 hours and get a pretty nice paycheck and spend the rest of the the day enjoying with your family or friends.
