DON'T Just Try to think Positive...

The people who say "just try to think positive" say it for all the right reasons. Having a positive mind-set allows your mind, body, and soul to function at it's greatest potential.

But the reason why troubled people can't "just think positive" is because they are smart! Why wouldn't you listen to what your "gut" is telling you. You can't just ignore negative thoughts. That's not healthy. Negative thoughts are a warning sign! Something's not right!

Become more self-aware. Understand WHY you have negative thoughts. Take care of the underlying issues in your life. Don't try to cover them up with cute inspirational quotes and other short-term solutions.

This is my first post Please provide as much feedback as possible. I'm happy to discuss some of the negative thoughts that you can't get rid of. Hopefully I can help.

Totally agree. Many times when I feel worried or anxious about something I force myself to really focus on that feeling. I ask myself why I feel that way and what is causing it. Usually, when I get down to it, I realize that what I was worried about was silly, and I can move on with my life. Our brains tend to blow things out of proportion, but when you think through it rationally, you can get rid of the negative thoughts more easily.

The following is a bit philosophic. It seems as if we've come to this planet with all of our greatness already inside of us; the ability to create and experience already inherent within us. But for some reason we suffer.

We begin to believe that we're not at cause. A lot of people ask why, if God were truly only capable of giving and receiving love, we'd experience so much negativity in our lives. At the same time, it's as though it's those negative moments which allow us to appreciate and know the positive/loving experiences all the better.

All of our dreams, hopes and desires are part of who we really are, and we know we can experience these moments at any time we choose. It's shining in the face the darkness that keeps us expanding....

Thinking positively also takes training, too.

I agree. You do have to know thyself. That helps in knowing when to take your negative thoughts seriously or not.

But, ignoring negative thoughts can be very difficult. I have since learned to analyze my negative thoughts and either confront them or ignore them. It takes practice.

I also agree with Kevin Jhansen that the negative experiences help you appreciate the positive ones that much more.

If you want to try a more systematised way of examining your negative thoughts/feelings have a look at the Option Method. You can learn it for free here.

I've experienced some tremendous progress by using it to examine the underlying beliefs that have sabotaged my life in many areas. It's a deceptively simple process, but if you're patient with yourself and persist you can make some huge shifts in your mental/emotional landscape.

I have a very optimistic personality. This has made me sink many times when I started working on my first website back in 2009. With a secondary disability in the shape of peripheral neuropathy, I have realized it's only your mindset which can make serious changes within your life. Before this I was relying on my surroundings to provide me happiness according to my wishes.

Having a disability made me slow down a bit and examine my life, altogether. This 'negativity' in fact, is a blessing for me. Plus, it opened my eyes to identify it and make a decision by sorting out a solution or by avoiding it completely. I became more comfortable with negativity in the form of negative remarks and negative people. Learned how to think logically rather than just being a positive bunny.

IMO, the world needs positivity but we also have to know the negativity. Exactly what Kevin quoted above:
