In Business You Have To Do What You Need To Do Not What You Want To Do

I wanted to pop in and post this to try and help the readers.

You may not want to hear this, you may not want to do this but if you want to be successful then you HAVE to follow this mantra.

There will be times in your marketing career when you hit bumps in the road, frustrations, technical hitches the list is endless.

It may be blogging daily, which you hate and FB and twitter is so much more fun or appealing.

But if you really want to aspire to the levels you dream of, if you want to make it then you have to do the things that move your business forward.

Don't cheat, because the only person you are cheating is yourself.

I want your success as much as you do so please take this on board, grit you teeth and concentrate on doing the things you need to do regardless of whether or not you want to do them

Best wishes

Peter

Yep, I would argue that the really successful people are the ones who are able to focus through the lulls and sometimes 'boring times' of running a business and get excited at the fact that there will be a payoff for their hard work down the road

In business and life in general you need to do what you love to do.

Work with something you love doing and you'll never have to work in your life.

If blogging is what you hate doing, then don't do it.

Well, it isn't necessary to use every social media platform or "be everywhere" to promote your business.

Where are your customers? That's what's most important.

Mine are not on Facebook, for example. They're in their offices, working.

As for doing what you want/don't want...

I have changed my mind a little from when I created this graphic a couple years back. I don't like the word "passion" anymore.

Passion is a dangerous word. Passions come and go. At 6 years of age, I was passionate about dinosaurs. I am not a paleontologist today.

    Interest is a better word.

    Something you are interested in.

Interests tend to last. Passions flash in and out.

But the overlap is what's most important.

Solving a problem the customer deems significant. That fixing at your rate is more valuable than leaving as-is.

What I see is people not PERSISTING.

They give up after a few days of effort.

Then they jump to the next shiny thing.

That is not how to build a business.

So it isn't so much "doing what you don't want to do"...it's being consistent about what you're doing.

We know if you have a big-enough Why, you will persist.

Tells you something about most people trying to be in this business.

Well put Jason, I couldn't agree more. For me it always begins with Why, 'Start with Why' by Simon Sinek is a great book to really get your head around this. Also sometimes it's best to leave the passions as passions. If you work in something you are passionate about you will likely no longer be passionate about it.

For the people just leave school, what need to do is more important than what love to do. It is for alive.

But after years, maybe 5, maybe 10, maybe more, you can do something what you love to do. it is a better life now.

a small part of your business is actually doing what you want .. if you are a professional speaker ..to give an hour speach .. you may have to spend several hours on a plane stay over in a hotel.. all the things that have to do with travel ..

there are a list of things you may not want to do..but you must be the one to do to get to do the things you want ..
